What got you interested in crafting?

I have always been into crocheting and knitting.  And the past couple of years have taken up sewing.  My children really inspire me though.  I have such a drive to make personal things for them that they will have forever.

What has been your favorite project to make and why?

I loved making my appliqué rainbow T-shirt.  I saw one in the Boden catalog that was rather pricey and set out to replicate it.

What’s the secret behind your etsy name?

The name Chickadee Station has a few meanings.  The first reason I chose chickadee is because I live on Chickadee Lane.  The other is because we call my daughter Chickie.  I added Station for my son who loves trains.  I didn’t want to leave him out!

If you could open up a shop in your town what would you call it and what would it be like?

I would call it Chickadee Station.  I think it’s the cutest name.  Whenever I tell someone the name of our street they always have a cute comment to make!  I love to picture my skirts, shirts, and hair bows hanging on racks in a store!

What is the most challenging thing you have made?

The most challenging thing was making the patterns for my high waist skirt in all sizes and figuring out the pre-sewn measurements.  I wanted it to be all mine so I really spent a lot of time figuring this out instead of copying from the internet.

What are some of your goals you hope to achieve within the next year?

I’m just starting my shop so I hope that people order from me so I can actually send away some of the cute things I’ve made.  I’d love to have some custom orders too!

What inspires you to be crafty?

Other crafty people and blogs that I follow inspire me as well as my children!  I love creating something they can wear.  It’s so special!

What is your best quality when it comes to your crafts?

I love trying new items.  I’m not afraid to try something new.  Even if it means I’ll be up all night fighting with my sewing machine or starting over several times before I get it right!

If you could have one thing to help your store what would it be?

A serger!  I want one so badly, but they are pricey.  I currently spend a lot of time with the iron so that all my seams are finished.  A girl can dream!

What got you interested in crafting?

I am a mom of four wonderful kids and wife to a creative, talented and loving husband. Sewing and crafting comes very naturally to me. There are many crafting and creative people in my family. My Mom got me started in crafting and I have been hooked ever since. My first craft was when I was 6 years old! I have been sewing for about 14 years. I sew almost everyday and I am always creating something. I have had a purse business that were all my own designs, for about 4 years now and I also do custom sewing projects. I have two items I make in a uniform shop located where I live too!

What’s the secret behind your etsy name?

The name for my shop came about when I was thinking of a fun name for my store. I was trying to think of a name that would mean something oto me and my mom. She makes these awesome thumbprint cookies with nut and jelly in the middle. So I thought it would make a great name! Since having my fourth baby, I have been teaching sewing lesson for the last two years. I love to help people to learn to sew. I love it and I want to share that passion with other people. So as a natural instinct to help and create, out came my store on ETSY called Thumbprint Patterns. I currently have four patterns in my store.

What inspires you to be crafty?

Inspiration for me comes from necessity. I make things to help solve a problem or make a new version of something I need or really like. The first pattern I made for my shop came from there not being one for my daughter that looked just like the one I made for myself. So I made my first garment pattern from scratch and I totally loved it.

What goals do you have for your store?

I hope to grow my collection of patterns over the next few years. I would love to have 10 patterns in each category ranging from beginner to advanced patterns. The types of patterns will vary also, having everything from dress patterns, home decor, and craft patterns. I am currently working on a pattern for kitchen table place mats, Christmas Stocking, and a new style of purse.

My husband is an art teacher and we hope to open a store someday. We want to have lessons for art sewing and crafting.

Having a home based business is a wonderful blessing for my growing family. I get to create and be home to help them.

If you haven’t already checked out Thumbprintpatterns store – go ahead and check out here!

Thanks for coming!

Crafts: What are you doing!!?

18 Oct

What the heck have I been doing? This..

My first but not my last Taggie 😀

Custom order loop scarf – looks to big on me because it is 😉 Made it for a normal height person 😛 Don’t make fun of me!!

Frames Frames Frames Frames

Painting a ton of frames for the craft show

That is a pile of 22 burp cloths

So far I’ve finished three for an order 😛

24 more burp cloths, 4 taggies, 10 more frames to go….

So if you think I’m slacking and I’m falling behind – I am .. but I’m not!! I’ve been working super hard lately making sure that I’ll have everything ready for the craft fair. I also finished a tan twisted loop scarf but I’m not selling that one. Made it for my mom 😀 I’ll try to remember to take a picture of that one for you because it’s by far my favorite after the teal one!!

I’ve got two more stripes to go on the purple scarf shown above and then I’ll be sending that out. So excited because it’s the first crocheted item that I’ll have sold on etsy and I have a feeling it won’t be near my last. The yarn I use is wayyyy to soft and silky to pass by. It’s hard to sell something like these on etsy because people want to put it on and feel it but I can guarantee once you put it around your neck – you won’t want to take it off. I had to pull the teal one off my mom and promise her three in order to get it back 😛

Cup cozies are the other thing I forgot to take a picture of.. need to remember that so you can see! I’ve them all finished except sewing the button on! Since I had work off today and I was in a cleaning mood, I decided to go through all the paperwork I had been putting off, cleaning the kitchen and other easy chores. Tonight I got 10 burp cloths ready to be sewn tomorrow so I can just zoom through those. I have a lot of fun new fabric and new items to post but I’ve decided not to post them until after the craft show in case I sell out!

I am however making myself post at least three items a day of supply items that I’m not longer using. My team on etsy is doing a Destash Bash before the Christmas season hits. We are getting rid of all the old craft supplies we aren’t using that are taking up space in our areas. The last thing you want to do is be stressed out with orders and rummage through piles of stuff you don’t even want just to find what you need! Plus someone else’s trash is always another crafters’ treasure. We have been having a blast doing this and I’m so excited to send out all my goodies 😀

So what are you doing??

Thanks for stopping by and hopefully I can still manage to keep you updated on things I’m doing to get prepared for this craft show. Hopefully I can come back with some good tips, lists, and info to help anyone else who is attempting to do what I am doing!

Love Always,

” I’m a mom of two fantastic boys and I’ve been a professional graphic designer for over 14 years. My husband and I live just outside of Boston with our kids and big swiss mountain dog. I’ve been involved in the arts for as long as I can remember and I love to make things with my hands. Crochet is a fantastic outlet for me to relax and rejuvenate after working on a computer in a very 2-D career each day. I’ve always loved being creative and I hope you’ll enjoy my shop! 🙂 “

What got you interested in crafting?

My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was a little girl and I mostly just made clothes for my barbies at the time. I hadn’t crocheted in about 15 years and I just decided last winter that I really wanted to make myself a scarf… so I took it back up again and here I am!

What has been your favorite project to make and why?

My favorite project so far has been my tan puppy. He was created because a friend of mine had a niece that was very attached to a yellow lab that her mother owned, but was very old and probably not going to be around to the end of the summer. She wanted to give her niece a tan puppy to remind her of her favorite dog and comfort her in the future…. and so the tan puppy in my shop was born.

What’s the secret behind your etsy name? (How did you come up with it?)

The secret behind my Etsy name has to do with my kids – they both are such little busy bodies around the house, they are always just “doodling” around tinkering with things here and there as they go – I started calling them my little doodlebugs. When I decided to start a shop catering to kids on Etsy – it just seemed like the perfect name!

What is the most challenging thing you have made?

The most challenging thing I have made is something I’m STILL working on! I’m looking to add a kitty to my shop and I think I’ve finally got the right pattern ideas in my head – I made one already but he didn’t QUITE look right – for me, it’s all the little details that need to be just right to make him too cute to resist… the size and shape of the ears, the right tail shape, etc. It can be challenging at times.

What are some of your goals you hope to achieve within the next year?

My goals for the next year are to continue to grow my Etsy shop by creating more animals, offering more colors and continuing to create beautiful blankets. I’ve had some interest in local galleries and not-so local shops to carry my work and I hope to also grow that side of my business next year. However, my biggest goal is to keep enjoying what I make, have fun, and keep those kid’s smiles coming!

What inspires you to be crafty?

I get inspired by kids – having my own and seeing all of my friends’ kids – they are just the best. There’s no better feeling than having a little kid squeeze the heck out of one of my animals and just HAVING to have it with them all day and night. That makes me so happy – and there really isn’t any better inspiration to keep going!

If you could have one thing to help your store what would it be?

If I could have one thing to help my store, anything at all, it would be another set of hands! Although I work fairly fast, crochet takes time – some days and weeks I find myself with more work than I can physically do myself. The handmade quality is what makes my shop beautiful and unique, but from a business sense, I feel that it does tend to limit how much I can grow.

If you haven’t already – check DoodlebugCrochet out!

Daily Life: Picking Up The Pieces

10 Oct

These past two weeks of my life have been one big test for me. Through this whole process of being a stay at home mom, attempting to go beyond the goals I’ve set for myself as a business, holding a part-time job, and giving back to the Etsy community for everything that it’s given me – I overwhelmed myself. I took on a few more things that I could handle and it’s been a really lesson learned. As much as I love doing things for others and putting everyone above myself – sometimes you just have to break down and reset your priorities!

Because of my surgery and the medication I was on – it really limited what I could do and put me in a position where I felt like I was falling behind. Thank goodness I am back to the normal me this week and feeling back to being on top of this, but it was a good reminder that I am human and sometimes – even when we don’t want to – we need to slow down!

Now that I’m back on track I’ve been knocking out to do lists like it’s nothing! I’ve got seven new burp cloths to show and list, ten frames painted and primed and a few already started decorating, I am halfway done with a new scarf and I’ve been making cup cozies like it’s nobody’s business 😉

I know how much everyone LOVES pictures so I’ll definitely take more tomorrow and upload for all to see! But I am going to be concentrating on de-stashing tomorrow! My team on Etsy is doing a DESTASH BASH! We are getting rid of all the junk lying around from past projects and cleaning up or spaces so we can be ready for this coming holiday season. Who needs to be shuffling through a mess of things when purchases are at an all time high and we’ve got work to do! I’ll be excited to posting supply items so that I can make my store a little more dynamic and give you and my buyers some inspiration to be crafty yourselves!

So far I have some scrapbooking things and a lot of bias listed but there will be LOTS more coming 😉

Here’s the link if you are interested in checking it out.

Thank you so much for stopping by and sticking it out with my not so wonderful weeks!!

Love Always,

Spotty Dog Crochet is the perfect store to get any custom handmade crocheted item! This is where you are going to get an item that is custom made just for you! She does more fiber art than just crochet so if you have a specific thing in mind – don’t hesitate to ask her! I personally love giving gifts like these because they are one of a kind and the time and effort spent making these types of things really make it a personal and meaningful gift.

What got you interested in crafting?

I have been creative my whole life and then in college a friend of mine taught me how to knit. Once I learned how to knit I started researching other types of fiber art and eventually fell in love with crocheting.

What has been your favorite project to make and why?

My favorite project to make is my ruffled edge scarf. It is easy to make but still looks fancy.

What’s the secret behind your etsy name?

My 1-year-old beagle / pointer mix puppy named Fenway is black and white spotted and he loves to “help” me with my projects.

If you could open up a shop in your town what would you call it and what would it be like?

I would probably keep the name Spotty Dog Crochet and I would love to have a yarn / supply store with plenty of space for people to sit, knit and have a cup of tea.

What is the most challenging thing you have made?

My girly wool soaker. Figuring out how to add the little skirt took me a long time, I must have taken it out and started it over a hundred times.

What are some of your goals you hope to achieve within thenext year?

I would love to keep improving my etsy shop. There is so much about this world of selling on the internet that I am still trying to figure out. Also, personally my husband and I are in the process of buying a house and I can’t wait to get all moved in and settled.

What inspires you to be crafty?

Seeing new projects and patterns. I love how relaxing it is to just sit and work through a project.

What is your best quality when it comes to your crafts?

I would like to think that it is how creative I am. I can never stick to a pattern, I always end up changing things around to make them more unique and one of a kind.

If you could have one thing in your store what would it be?

I already have a ruffled edge scarf in the same color green as the one in my shop. I would love to have one of my blankets, the tan lap blanket would look great folded over my couch.

If you haven’t already stopped by the shop yet check it out: Spotty Dog Crochet

Daily Life: I Get Knocked Down

5 Oct

This week is apparently not my week…

And it just seems to be getting worse.

Usually when I’m in a hole like this it only takes a few hours, a few attempts, and I’m back to being the perky old me doing a million things at once and enjoying life! This week it’s like every time I try to get back up I keep getting knocked down.

I really hate depressing posts so if you are thinking about reading something else I don’t blame you!!!! If you are still with me, thanks.

There are a few great things happening to me this week. I’m working with an AMAZING graphic designer who is getting me ready for my craft show(s) and honestly she’s making something that’s been stressing me out completely easy and thoughtless!! I owe her big time for the amount of weight she’s lifted off of my shoulders. On top of that we are hanging out next week and I have some brilliant ideas to share with her that are seriously driving me nuts keeping quiet about them but I will..

I asked off from my part time job so that I can have the week before my craft fair to concentrate on last minute things! So that’s a huge sigh of relief – balancing all these things at once are making things hard on me right now.

I think it’s the overachiever in me who wants to do so many things at once and I do really well at 95% of it and as long as I’m getting good feedback it’s not too complicated to juggle .. but I think the lack of feedback, the lack of appreciation, and the lack of me getting what I actually WANT to get done is taking a toll on me.

So here I am sitting here blogging about how miserable I am..

Let’s hope for a better tomorrow!! PLEASE!!

Thanks for stopping by!

Love Always,

Crafts: Bring on the Boy!

2 Oct

It’s funny how I started out having trouble finding boy burp cloth material that I liked .. now I can’t seem to stop picking them up!! Here’s a few new burp cloths that I will be listing in my shop today:

This monkey one is actually going to be a set of four – I’m going to sell it separately or in a set with two pacifier clips, a bib, a blanket, and a taggie. But not until I master all those extra’s 😉

Then I made a neutral one!

Everyone loves Winnie The Pooh!

I’ve got a lot on my hands today! I have a big order that needs to be completed and since I’ve been out of commission due to surgery and meds I really need to get working on my inventory for my craft show in November. Crazy news on top of that is I got invited to another free table show Oct. 22nd. I’m not sure if I will be able to do both but I’m not willing to say no because it’s free and it’s going to be a great learning experience. Maybe just maybe things will work out in my favor these next two weeks and I’ll feel like I can really get some work done?

Let’s hope so because I just added a ton of stuff to my to do list!

Thanks for stopping in!

If you’d like to check out my shop it’s here: Daydreaming Gifts
