Feature Friday Presents:
Chickadee Station!
Sarah from Chickadee Station is a part-time reading teacher and stay at home mom. She was teaching first grade until her son was born three years ago. She first got a sewing machine when she was pregnant so she could hem her maternity pants. She taught herself to sew and has been making skirts and personalized gifts for friends. When her daughter was born last year she began making hair bows and other clothing items! Girl clothing is so cute…she couldn’t help herself!

What got you interested in crafting?
I have always been into crocheting and knitting. And the past couple of years have taken up sewing. My children really inspire me though. I have such a drive to make personal things for them that they will have forever.
What has been your favorite project to make and why?
I loved making my appliqué rainbow T-shirt. I saw one in the Boden catalog that was rather pricey and set out to replicate it.
What’s the secret behind your etsy name?
The name Chickadee Station has a few meanings. The first reason I chose chickadee is because I live on Chickadee Lane. The other is because we call my daughter Chickie. I added Station for my son who loves trains. I didn’t want to leave him out!
If you could open up a shop in your town what would you call it and what would it be like?
I would call it Chickadee Station. I think it’s the cutest name. Whenever I tell someone the name of our street they always have a cute comment to make! I love to picture my skirts, shirts, and hair bows hanging on racks in a store!
What is the most challenging thing you have made?
The most challenging thing was making the patterns for my high waist skirt in all sizes and figuring out the pre-sewn measurements. I wanted it to be all mine so I really spent a lot of time figuring this out instead of copying from the internet.
What are some of your goals you hope to achieve within the next year?
I’m just starting my shop so I hope that people order from me so I can actually send away some of the cute things I’ve made. I’d love to have some custom orders too!
What inspires you to be crafty?
Other crafty people and blogs that I follow inspire me as well as my children! I love creating something they can wear. It’s so special!
What is your best quality when it comes to your crafts?
I love trying new items. I’m not afraid to try something new. Even if it means I’ll be up all night fighting with my sewing machine or starting over several times before I get it right!
If you could have one thing to help your store what would it be?
A serger! I want one so badly, but they are pricey. I currently spend a lot of time with the iron so that all my seams are finished. A girl can dream!

Your gorgeous onesies with the ties are the sweetest items for little boys that I’ve seen. It’s always so much easier to find adorable clothing for girls, so well done for bringing a little sweetness and humour into baby boys’ clothes!!! :0)

LOVE those cute little boy shirts with the ties!
Sarah, love the girls chirstmas dress! Is there a matching bow in the works?
Love them!!!
I really like the Baby girl’s Christmas tree onsie. It’s super cute and would be perfect for our baby girl, who will be about a month old this Christmas. I want her to be comfy, so I’m resisting the urge to get her a frilly, over the top holiday dress. 🙂
I think this holiday applique shirt is adorable. It’s a unique pattern – simple yet cute. Not too flashy and not too much going on and shirt will go great with pants or a skirt!
