Feature Friday Presents
“MilushaDesign has lovingly grown from a dream into an exciting reality. My name is Milusha and I live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I am a graphic designer and nothing makes me happier than being creative and spending time with my family! Ever since I can remember I’ve loved illustrating. I was practically born with a pencil in my hand. My unique style is a combination of kitschy-vintage with a burst of quirky; retro and contemporary. I am inspired by anything that makes me feel good, from art to fashion and everything in between. But most of all my son! And so was born the sweet love to create art for him, my friends’ children and now you. At the moment my shop features art prints for children; soon I will be expanding to offer people graphic design services as well. Do stop by! “

What got you interested in crafting?
I have always been interested in art and illustrating. I’ve known from a very young age that this is what I wanted to do when I grew up. As a child, having grown up in a family of artists (both my maternal grandparents and my mother), it seemed like the most natural, logical step to take. It was in me, I was always encouraged and my parents nurtured that love; it became a part of who I am today.
What has been your favorite project to make and why?
I love all aspects of design. As a career, there are moments where one cannot necessarily be as creative as one would like. So I decided to try something new. I started with painting canvases for friends soon-to-be-born children. A unique gift just for them. I did this for a couple of years and then decided to take it a step further and launch it into a business aimed at new parents. Why? Well, because it makes me happy creating bright and colourful art that will put a smile on someone’s face!
What’s the secret behind your etsy name?
It’s no secret. I’ve branded myself as MilushaDesign. Milusha being my name and of course design being what I do. I have a unique name that stands out and since my shop is just me, it fits perfectly with the way I’d like to be represented.
If you could open up a shop in your town what would you call it and what would it be like?
I’ve always been a fan of watching old films (1920s, 1950s) and seeing their fashion and lifestyle has made me a huge lover of vintage items. I adore mid-century modern interiors and when we bought our home I went completely mad searching all the vintage furniture stores for that aesthetic! Long story short, I’d love to open a store dedicated to quality vintage items. There aren’t many like it where I live.
I have not really thought of what I might name it but it would be a friendly place with wonderful items, neatly displayed. I’d love to collaborate with my husband and my sister.
What is the most challenging thing you have made?
I would say that every piece I design has its own set of challenges. 🙂
What are some of your goals you hope to achieve within the next year?
Since I’m new to this whole Etsy Shop business venture, I do not have a hard and fast set of goals. It’s more on the looser side. I’d love to get a few sales a month and do well at that consistently. I’d love for the shop to become a more than part-time investment and I hope it is successful which will open new doors.
What inspires you to be crafty?
The world around me. A thought, a film, music, my family. All these things inspire me on a daily basis. Not to say that I don’t get “designer’s block” from time-to-time!
What is your best quality when it comes to your crafts?
I enjoy creating these prints which shows in my work. They are wonderfully quirky, colourful and reflect the person I am.
If you could have one thing to help your store what would it be?
I’d love more publicity and exposure. Advice and assistance on how to market my shop better. That would be a great gift.
