Feature Friday Presents:

Monetware!

“I enjoy a number of craft-related hobbies, but as you can see my two favorite are papercrafts and jewelry making. After much urging from family and friends, I finally decided to make my items available on-line….and now I’m wondering why I didn’t do it sooner. :-)”

What got you interested in crafting?

When I was younger, my mother taught me how to sew. My grandmother introduced me to knitting by giving me a book on it even though she didn’t knit herself. Around the time I got married, I begin to experiment with some paper and floral crafts. (I was outraged by some of the prices for wedding favors, flowers, etc. and decided to see what I could do myself.)

What has been your favorite project to make and why?

One of my favorite projects to make is the sticky notes pad. These make great, inexpensive gifts. Also, I am still very much a fan of writing notes (reminders for myself, a note for my husband, etc) and these make it convenient to always have something handy for leaving a quick note.

What’s the secret behind your etsy name?

My husband calls me “Monet”. Also, “ware” is defined as “articles of merchandise or manufacture; goods.” Therefore, “monetware”. (About 7 years ago, I said to myself that if I ever had to sell my goods, I would use that name for my line of merchandise. Etsy presented the perfect opportunity to really play up the name for my shop.)

If you could open up a shop in your town what would you call it and what would it be like?

I would call it “Monetware”…(of course!) I would sell my merchandise, plus I would have a little section of the shop to serve tea and desserts. I would also offer customized services that would include event planning, etc.

What is the most challenging thing you have made?

That would probably have to be one of the necklaces from my “Beads & Buttons” Collection. It involves wire bending and layering of the buttons. Challenging, but some of my favorite pieces to date.

What are some of your goals you hope to achieve within the next year?

I would love to do more marketing in order to get more exposure, which would hopefully lead to more sales. I would also like to expand the products that I offer. I have a few new things I want to try…you’ll have to stay tuned to see.

What inspires you to be crafty?

One of the most enjoyable and satisfying feelings is to see others happy because they have received something they need, want, or didn’t know they needed or wanted. To be able to provide that “thing”, even if it is just a covered post-it notes pad….inspires me to continue to create and be crafty. It’s also very relaxing to sit for hours and make cards, jewelry, etc.
What is your best quality when it comes to your crafts?

Being able to combine colors and patterns in a way that complements the particular item. (It’s funny, sometimes when it comes to matching up my clothes, I am at a loss…but there is usually no hesitation when it comes to my crafts!)

If you could have one thing to help your store what would it be?

More exposure for my products. Also, I am still working on taking better pictures so that the merchandise can be seen in the best possible way.
