My Favorite Things!

29 Jun

These past few weeks have been some of the best I’ve had in a while so I thought I’d give you a list of the awesomeness!

1. Spending Money

I surprisingly don’t get much of this. Mainly because I give it all to my hubby, I make half of what he makes, and my etsy store doesn’t bring in enough to really count it as spending (more like paying for what’s already been purchased).

2. Family & Friends

I can’t get enough of them these days ๐Ÿ˜‰ all I want to do is go have fun with everyone which is not making crafting easy but I don’t care! The pool, the beach, the bar! Let’s go!!!

3. New Toys

Thanks to my spending money I get to go out and have fun & SHOP! Ahh I love new things that make you smile when you wake up in the morning. Even if it is just a bowl that holds fresh fruit! It’s pretty gosh darnit!

4. Books Books Books

I have a pile of great books waiting to be read โค It’s like jumping into a new world and getting lost for a while! Since I can’t go on vacation – that is my vacation! I think I might vacation tonight after dinner on the patio ๐Ÿ˜‰ I deserve some down time!

5. The Sun

It puts me in a fantastic mood, which means I should probably move somewhere nice and sunny year round. If only Brian would let me ๐Ÿ˜‰ But it has been nice to lay out and soak up those rays!

What are some of your favorite things about these past few weeks?

New Toys for Mommy!!

28 Jun

When Brian gets spending money – he buys video games and DVDs, every chance we go out and Emma is amazingly sweet and patient we buy here a $1.00 toy, when I get spending money – I buy organization and functional things!! โค

Check out what awesome finds I found for the kitchen at target:

Fun new canisters to hold my favorite things – sugar, rice, brown sugar, and powered sugar! โค Can you tell I love sugar? ๐Ÿ˜‰ My favorite thing about these canisters is the little rubber pieces at the top. They squish out all the air when you close them and you know it’s sealed tight! Love Love Love!

Since we don’t have much counter space – I’ve never been the kind of person to buy something thatย blatantlyย takes up perfectly usable counter space but I couldn’t resist! This piece was so perfect and I LOVE fresh fruit. It’s been the one thing that’s kept me from snacking on chips and other horrible snacks. Now that it’s out and in my face, hopefully I’ll take advantage of it and it will be easier to pick fruits over junk ๐Ÿ˜‰

My junk drawer needed me to buy this! We have so many darn utensils that we usually on a random basis. My usual utensils get lost in them and it becomes a frustrating time when I’m in the middle of cooking. So I bought this to pull out my most used pieces. My favorite thing about this piece? Itย swivels!! So I can just smack it around until I find what I want ๐Ÿ˜‰ If only everything in life was that fun!

I can’t wait to go to Target with some more spending money. I’m thinking about all the fun organization pieces I can find for the living room and our bedroom!

Thanks for stopping by!

My Favorite Dress – Mini Sized!

26 Jun

Hey everyone! I finished the dress I was working yesterday ๐Ÿ™‚ While I was making it I realized I needed another fabric quarter srap so there’s a bright new color you weren’t expecting!

Since it was my first time making this type of dress and I wasn’t using a pattern I’ve already thought of multiple ways I could make it differently or better. I’m happy with how it came out but I’m wanting to have another try at it to see if i can make it even better!

Love my little girl trying it on even though it’s two sizes too big ๐Ÿ˜‰ maybe next year she’ll fit in!

Thanks for stopping by!

Love Always,

J

A Sneak Peak

26 Jun

Here’s a sneak peak of what I’m working on:

I’m not going to lie – I didn’t get done nearly as much as I thought I would. I had a little “helper”ย distractingย me ๐Ÿ˜‰

I have a feeling I will get a lot more done during nap time!

The Piano Bar is Where it’s at!

25 Jun

What a weekend! โค

I’ll start off with a big congrats to my sister at KrittersRamblings, who is getting married in August! This weekend we celebrated her bridal shower and bachelorette party ๐Ÿ™‚

What better way to celebrate then to go to a Piano Bar!? To be honest, I had no idea what I was in for. I’ve never been to nor heard of a piano bar before and was extremely excited! So we headed to the National Harbor:

This place is gorgeous! I’ve been there once prior to this weekend and have yet to really take it all in so I will definitely be going back ๐Ÿ™‚

When we walked into the bar and got our seats I realized this wasn’t your typical bar at all. We were right in front of the stage where the two pianos, drums, guitars, and everything else was! Then once the show started – I was amazed.

Two guys are playing the piano and singing to all different kinds of music from Journey to Pink Floyd to Lynyrd Skynyrd to Van Morrison to Foster The People to Tyga! We even got him to play and sing “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen!

In order to get them to play a song you want, you write it down on a piece of paper or napkin, pull out some ones, and take them up to the piano and they’ll play anything you want as long as they know it! I was amazed, to say the least, at the amount of songs they just knew off the top of their heads and what’s even better is they have no idea what songs people are going to request!

We were one happy group of girls! Check out the guy playing the piano behind us – he’s Ronnie “Fresh” Smith and he was our favorite ๐Ÿ™‚ He was not only amazing but seriously entertaining!

So congrats to my big sis on her amazing next step in her life and to one heck of a weekend celebrating it!

Love Always,

J

Unfinished Business!

21 Jun

I have so many unfinished projects that I could probably hide out for a few days and still not finish them all! This is just a picture of the unfinished scarves I started – two of which I’m still working on at the moment! Chances are high I’ll actually get all these done before October but it makes me laugh that I get halfway through and switch to a different color. My attention span just doesn’t last that long ๐Ÿ˜‰

And what better way to put off finishing all those unfinished projects then showing off all the new ones I can’t wait to do!!!?

I’m going to show you what you can do with an on sale cheap little girls tank top and some fabric quarters to make it a brand new outfit!

What can you do with some basic baby t-shirts and some extra fabric to make them personal and a one of a kind?

My favorite use for fun socks besides putting them on your feet! You’ll get to see once I finish these up ๐Ÿ˜‰

Have an old tie you don’t know what to do with? I have two different projects to do with just this one tie and a spare T-shirt!

And last but not least – probably the project I’m MOST excited about. What can you do with an old hanger, some thread, and free paint chips?
I am so excited about these new projects I just can’t wait to get started!! Maybe I’ll start one now ๐Ÿ˜‰

Growing up is fun!

20 Jun

Not too long ago my little girl got a big girl bed! She was super excited and said, “Mom watch me!!” as she climbed in and out all on her own. One of her favorite things about her new big girl bed is that Mommy can now lay beside her and read her bedtime stories. Another favorite, is that she can get out of bed after we closet the door and read all the books in her bookshelf by herself!

So far we haven’t had too much trouble with her not sleeping. Prior to taking the crib apart she would sing and read herself to sleep almost every night so it’s not that big of a change for her. What do I love about it? I love that she can play in her room in the morning when I’m not completely awake yet, I like that she still sings herself to sleep and I love listening to it, and I love that she likes to play in there even when it’s not bed time!

Other things going on around here? I’m finally getting my birthday cabinet cleaned up and moved to my studio so I can use it there. I need storage there so much more than I do here and I’m going to save up my pennies and buy another one for our place ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m also getting my budgeting spreadsheet together so I can show you all how I do my own stress free budgeting! It’s made money less of an issue in our house and more of something we can just rely on. Along with the spreadsheet and my explanation on how to use it, I am also working on my couponing! That extra shelf I’m going to save up and buy is also going to be great storage for the items I’ll be stocking up on at the grocery store.

If anyone is interested on how I do my couponing (not the traditional way but still saves money) I’d be more than glad to do a post about that as well!

So who said it was no fun growing up? NOT ME!!

Love Always,

J

Introducing My Mom!

18 Jun

Hey everyone! I am so excited to announce that my Mom is now a blogger!! She guest blogged for a while with my sister on http://www.krittersramblings.com and recently went to New Yorks BEA to meet authors, publishers, and fellow bloggers. It is a book reader & blogger’s dream come true and she came back more excited than ever to get her own blog up and running.

http://www.OpesOpinions.com is where you’ll find her writing book reviews, opinions about other things, and fun topics about her life in general. I’m so proud of my Mom for taking this big step on her own and learning everything so fast! She already has her first ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) book to read and review and is excited about taking on this new life journey.

Her link is also attached on the right of this post under my Blogroll where I post links to my favorite blogs that you might like!

I hope you are ready to sit back and relax when you follow her blog because that is exactly what she enjoys and would hope that you do too ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks for stopping by!

Great Finds with Family Time

16 Jun

What do you get when you have three female family member bloggers, two of which blog about books, and a library book sale?!

A pile of books so high that when you come home you realize you have no shelf space for them.. ๐Ÿ˜€ uh oh!

At the rate that I read – I have enough books to last me all year ๐Ÿ˜‰ As for my sister and mom this might last three months!

If you love books, aren’t so great at returning library books on time (guilty for sure!), and don’t have the cash to a bunch of new books (also guilty) there are two options you have to find great books at great prices if you don’t mind weeding through some old ones.

Not all but most libraries each year do a book sale (sometimes more often) to get rid of the multiple copies of books to replace with new ones coming out. Our library gathers all these books, sorts them by hardback, paperback, mass media print, dvds & electronics, young adult, and children’s books – than short by Authors last name. Hardbacks are $2 and paperbacks & mass media are $1, but best of all kids young adult and children’s books are a whopping .50 cents!

Another option is thrift stores! Some thrift stores are better than others but I’ve come to find most Goodwill’s I’ve been to all around Virginia have a large amount of books for $1 and under – most of the time they are .25 cents – can’t beat that price!

After our book adventure we did a little shopping at Charming Charlies. It’s a cute little accessory store around here that my sister always comes to when she stops by. For those of you who have tiny feet like me and have a really hard time finding high-heeled shoes in a size 5 or 5.5 and you don’t have money for those drop dead gorgeous Steve Maddens – hop on over to the nearest Charming Charlies around or check out their online store here! I got these suckers and I already have six dresses I will be wearing these babies with ๐Ÿ˜€

So excited!!!

Stay tuned for my list of things I hope to accomplish this week and my trick to keeping things budget friendly without all the stress ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks for stopping by!

Addiction: Blogging vs. Living

15 Jun

What happens to an addicted blogger decides to live without technology for a period of time? (Note I still had my phone – I just limited my time on it)

  • The first few hours you are having mini anxiety attacks wondering if you are going to make it and you might even log back in just to see if everything’s okay.
  • The first day you spend twitching wondering if you have any views or your followers are mad because you haven’t posted but then say “oh yeah it’s only be 24 hours they probably don’t care”.
  • The second day you are seriously questioning your decision to stay off it and think all of your followers are going to hate you, leave, never come back, unsubscribe, and shake their head thinking “another one bites the dust”.
  • The third day you wake up wanting to just check it once – that’s it, then you’ll be okay for the rest of the day you promise.
  • The fourth day you get an email from a blog on your phone that you are subscribed to and shake your head wishing you were as awesome and dedicated as they were.
  • The fifth day you swear you won’t look at your blog or even open your iphone app!! (which at that point wasn’t a problem for me because it kept crashing grrrr)
  • The next few days you find things to keep you busy like reading an actual book instead of your PC downloaded Nook or other blogs or spending some quality time outside!
  • The last few days you are sitting around thinking, wow I should totally write a blog post about this and take a picture so they can all see!!!
  • The very last day you are overflowing with things you want to blog about, don’t know what to start with, and if you weren’t going to be made fun of you’d jump up and down with glee that you’ve made it this long and will be back to blogging in no time!!!!!
  • The last few hours, you are sitting next to the computer, staring at it beating yourself up about the fact that all you want to do is LOG ON RIGHT NOW!
  • The last ten minutes, you have up until now kept yourself busy with mindless miscellaneous tasks around the house and you are seriously at your breaking point with excitement and anticipation.
  • The moment you log on – it’s like a breath of fresh air. YOU ARE BACK BABY!!
  • After you write and submit your post you click on your view stats every minute to see if your followers are going to come back or hate you forever!
Thanks for coming back ๐Ÿ˜‰

Love Always,

J
