Cork Preview

29 Sep

So I’ve been looking up fun things to do with corks and got a start on them yesterday. Thought I’d share them with you today 🙂

A cork wreath! I still haven’t mastered how I’m going to finish this but it was fun to finally get started on it 🙂 Brian thinks I should color or spray paint the corks when I’m done to give it a little color boost – he thinks the cork color is boring. I could definitely see these being cute if they were green and red or maybe even blue just for kicks and giggles.

This is a cork Christmas tree ornament 🙂 This too is going to get some color to spice it up a little!!

I really liked how this one turned out so I might be making a few more! What do you think?

I have a list of other cute ideas I’d love to try and since I have a ridiculous amount of corks – this could get interesting 😉

Thanks for stopping by!

J

Cork Key Chains

28 Sep

Lately I’ve been working on easy small crafts to take to my show. Now that I have all the big stuff ready, I wanted to make a couple different small and cheap knick knacky items. I know when I’m out at a craft show, I’m always looking for fun little knick knacks for stocking stuffers or just as a memory from the event.

I got the idea to make cork key chains from my sister’s wedding. She took all the wine corks she got from the winery (where she had her wedding) and made these cork key chains to give out to everyone that came as a little memory of the wedding and the winery. I love the idea and I also love that it’s quick and easy to make!

So what you’ll need are some corks, some key chain rings, and some screw eyes!

Screw in the screw eye to one side of the cork.

Attach the ring – and tada! You have a cork key chain 🙂

Having these at the show will give me a little more variety on prices and since they were so easy to do I knocked out 100 in on time! Now I’m trying to figure out what to do with all these left over corks 😉

Taking it Easy Today!

27 Sep

I have two little girls here today and we are going to be taking it easy! Most days we spend half the day inside and half the day outside but since the weather is going to keep us from going out – I decided to take a practice day of keeping them entertained inside!

Since they are 2 and 3, their attention span is about 30 minutes. Here’s our usual schedule for a day that includes outdoor time:

8:30-9:00 Excitement to see each other which involves, hugs, kisses, chasing each other, and showing each other toys. Then they’ll usually “help” me get breakfast ready.

9:00-9:30 Breakfast time!

9:30-10:00 Free play time in the house.

10:30-11:00 We go for a walk.

11:00-11:30 Color or Play-Doh

11:30-12:00 They help me make lunch

OR

10:30-11:30 Park Time

11:30-12:00 They help me make lunch

12:00 Lunch

12:30-1:00 Quiet Time

1:00 -4:00 Nap Time

4:00 – 4:15 Snack

4:15 – 5:00 Puzzles, Reading Time, or Blocks usually.

So what I’ll need to do is find an indoor activity to keep us busy from 10:30-11:00. Some days we’ll bundle up and play out on the back patio but for those really cold or yucky days I wanted a few options to keep us entertained.

Today we are going to try music time. I’ve got a bunch of musical toys ready and I’m hoping it will include lots of dancing and giggling to get out all their energy!

Do you have any great ideas you’d love to share?

Thanks for stopping by.

Get It Together Girl!

26 Sep

Sorry for the late post this morning – I’ve been trying to get it together over here 😉 Since I’m waiting for my studio organizers to come in I decided to get to work on my desk. It seriously needed some TLC!!

This desk was being used for pile things instead of actually work on. I can’t tell you how many time’s I’ve had to organize this desk because it’s become a dumping station. I decided I need to create enough space in the drawers to keep things off the desk so it doesn’t pile up anymore.

The first step was to clean out these messy drawers. We had a ton of stuff in here that was just taking up precious space – including a bunch of things that didn’t necessarily have anything to do with desk work. Surprisingly I had a ton of crafting related things in this desk that I gladly took to the studio room. It doesn’t belong in here and definitely wasn’t getting used being in this desk.

After I got the drawers all cleaned out, I was able to decide what I wanted for my desk.

1. A place to keep and organize my coupons.

2. A place to keep and organize my receipts for taxes.

3. A place for paying my bills and desk supplies.

4. A place to write cards (thank yous, invites, and such).

5. A place to file my paperwork (which was already there).

6. A place for the books I’m working on and reviewing.

7. A place for my notebooks and organizing tools.

Some things just can’t fit in the desk very well so the last two items got cute boxes to be used to store them.

After two hours – taking loads to the studio, thrift store pile, and trash – this desk was finished!! I even hung up a hanging folder to put my “need to be filed” items up so they don’t pile on my desk. The gray container holds the books I’m working on and reviewing. The tan container holds my organizing notebooks and tools – including my pens, pencils, and scissors!

In my drawers I made room for my coupon notebook, my tax/receipts notebook, my bill supplies & desk tools, my notecards, thank you’s, and invites. The bottom drawer stayed the same with my files.

In order to keep this desk from getting back to being a dumping ground, every night I’ll be cleaning it up so in the morning it’s ready for some work to get accomplished!

What do you think?

Magazine Review: Halloween Handbook – Martha Stewart

25 Sep

Are you ready for Halloween? This magazine may make you second guess. As I was flipping through it for the first time I realized that as much as I love making crafts and seasonal decorations – I’d never do Halloween quite like Martha Stewart. Partially because I don’t have that much time, or money, or interest in making that many things for one day!

Instead of getting me hyped up to do crafts this magazine gave me a little bit of a migraine! Sure it has some cute ideas, good pictures, easy to understand instructions, and a supply list – but this magazine was also a little overwhelming! Each page is jam packed with so many different ideas that it actually left me wanting to go back and look at Halloween Celebrations.

I’m all for doing crafts that are super cute and leave me feeling amazing but what this magazine lacked to me – was projects that can transfer into other holidays or just plain home decor! Now since it is a Halloween magazine I do give it credit for having a ton of different style/types of crafts so if you are looking for that perfect touch you want for this holiday – chances are high you’ll find it in here. There are a few I could see myself doing but be warned: Sometimes too many ideas is just plain overwhelming!

This holiday special magazine costs $14.99 which didn’t seem worth it to me.

  • 4 points for ideas & inspiration
  • 5 points for easy how to and guide steps
  • 3 points for exciting pictures & fun reads
  • 1 points for the amount of issues
  • 1 points for price (14.99 for one issue)

I give this magazine 3 out 5 stars.

A Little Help Here?

24 Sep

Oh goodness. As embarrassing as this is – I decided to show you my craft room now that it’s EXPLODED with supplies, prep for the huge craft show I’m doing, as well as boxes of team items.

Since I’ve been busy concentrating on getting enough inventory – I’ve slipped a little when it comes to keeping this place organized. It seems like every day I come in here it starts out looking like this and after an hour or so it turns into this:

Better.. but oh so disorganized. It took me about thirty minutes to find my modge podge. By the time I was done finding it – I didn’t even want to attempt the project anymore! This girl is going to take some time organizing this place so I don’t have to keep rearranging and finding place.

I started looking online for cheap storage solutions that I could also use to display items at craft shows and came across these at Target for $15.99. I’m ordering three of them. I’ll also be buying buckets to go in the squares so your not looking at all the crap I have 🙂

After going to a friends house and seeing how she stored her large sheets of paper I had an ah-ha moment! I could hang fabric from that to keep it from getting the fold lines and having to iron them over and over again. She had an extra and let me have it so for now I’m going to try it out and if I like it – I’ll be ordering another. These are $14.99 from Ikea and exactly what I need to get some more storage shelf space.

The last purchase I’ll be making this two weeks is a paper rack to get my paper off the bucket on the floor and make it easier to see what I have. I found this off of Amazon and think it would do the job well – especially for 13 bucks!

This process will end up being a few posts long. My goal is to take this space and the items I have and create a working organized system from top to bottom. No more wasting precious crafting time!

Sing It Out Loud! Or At Least Write It.

22 Sep

I’ve always been a girl who loves to personalize things. Well – I did it again! I’ve been seeing people personalize their pillows with song lyrics they love – so I set out to find the perfect lyrics for my pillows 🙂 It took a while and a lot of no that’s not it between Brian and I. I wanted him to be as attached to these pillows as I want to be so he had a say in what we chose.

All you need is fabric, a fabric marker (or two), a pillow, a sewing machine (or you can hand stitch with a needle & thread), and some lyrics of course!

Brian and I chose to use the lyrics from Coldplay – Yellow. We are big Coldplay fans and some of our favorite songs as much as we liked them – really didn’t work out for pillow lyrics. So if you do this project you may realize that half of them don’t really work. I like songs with a little bit of  a repetition in it, but enough words to keep you reading.

If you don’t have consistent handwriting or are afraid you want write in a straight line – try not to worry. Mine isn’t either if you look closely enough you’ll realize I write like a third grader – but if you look back up at the picture above it doesn’t look so bad! Plus it gives it a little character 🙂

The rest of this how to will be posted later on. I’m excited to get the pillow sewn so you can all see the finished look of it!

What song would you love on a pillow for your room?

Let’s Hear It For Some Change!!

21 Sep

Welcome to my typical night!

It usually involves me with the computer – working on my etsy shop, blogging, emailing, or reading other blogs. I’m almost always also crocheting something. Whether it’s a scarf or blanket, I like to keep my fingers busy!

A lot of things happened this weekend that weren’t exactly blog post worthy so I thought I’d combined them all into one! This week I finished three scarves, picked up my dress for a wedding I’m in, worked/played with the girls, organized the next few house projects I’ll be doing, but most importantly – I hit my inventory list goal for the huge craft show I’m doing this year!!! ❤

So let’s all do a happy dance!!!

Okay – now that I got that out of the way I can explain a few things that are going to be coming up these next few weeks.

1. Home projects! Now that I’m not cooped up in my studio or working my little tail off – I now have time to do some projects around this place. Brian and I have a few that we are excited to do! We are making a pallet garden together for our patio outside, we are painting our living room (still choosing paint colors), and putting up a backsplash in our kitchen (finally)!!

2. New crafty projects! Again – goodbye doing the same things every weekend just to stock up. I can now work on some fun new projects that will have nothing to do with craft shows! Who’s excited for random projects?! I am!

3. With all this extra time – you better bet there’s going to be some purging and organizing around this house. Expect some great tips on this.

4. FREE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There will be a lot more posts about whatever Emma and I are doing – even if it is being lazy for the day. I know you’ve missed seeing that little girl and her playful poses.

What are you excited about?

Thanks for stopping by!

Crafty Party!

20 Sep

This past weekend our team had a craft party! Everyone met up together and got crafty 😉 There was food, drinks, and craft supplies galore! I thought I’d take a break from the usual crafty posts and let you in on what a crafty party around here looks like!

I think we all have enough supplies here to keep us busy for days!

You can’t have a craft get together without some crafty inspiration!

Afterwards we decided to make this an ongoing event. Every three months we’ll be meeting up to get crafty together and enjoy each other’s company. This group of people have become a great way to share my experience of blogging, crafting, etsy, and being a mom. When I started out with all of this – I didn’t have many people to share my experiences with and what better way to do it, then get crafty with people who share the same interests as you!?

Thanks for stopping by!

Love Always,

J
