These Girls!

9 Mar

Everyone likes to ask me how Emma adjusted to Payton. At first it takes me a minute to respond because I have to go back and remember what it was like before they were inseparable!

When Payton was first born, Emma didn’t really respond to her at all. It’s almost like she had tunnel vision and didn’t even notice her in my arms. She has always been an independent player, and when I got home with Payton, she just kept playing!

IMG_4372

I’m sure she noticed when I would tell her to hold on, let me get Payton set and then I’ll help you, but she never got upset about it. I think I do remember a time or two where she seemed frustrated and I thought it might be from sharing my time but she had also just started Kindergarten DAYS after I came home with Payton.

She would be gone all day and come home in the afternoon. Payton would sleep and we’d get some time together, then dinner, then quiet time, then bed time. It was all still the same routine. It wasn’t until Payton started to smile and laugh that Emma got interested in her. I think the day she made Payton laugh she fell in love.

Now they spend most of their time side by side. Payton loves to hand Emma blocks and Emma loves to build castles, then Payton likes to know them down. Emma reads to her and share her colored pencils. Payton loves to chase her around the room and dance with her. Seeing them together all the time really makes it hard to remember what it was like before this.

Payton Update

6 Jul

This little one is 11 months!!! I can’t believe it. She quickly grasped crawling, cut her first tooth, and decided she doesn’t hate sand but she doesn’t love it yet either!!

She’s still napping like a pro and has a special place in her heart for Emma.

She is babbling things that sound like words!! Like Mama, yes, no, and hi!

She also loves to shake her head no and clap her hands!

She is still the happiest baby in the world and we feel so lucky to have her!

A Payton update!

16 Feb

Someone is six months old! Eating oatmeal, veggies, fruits, and rolling all over the floor!

She has been the quietest baby I’ve ever seen but she’s finally starting to find her voice.

Her favorite things are to take her socks off and play with her toes, put absolutely everything in her mouth, and refuse tummy time by immediately rolling over.

I love this little one to pieces!

What I’m Working On

27 Jan

With my new year goals in full gear I have been getting busy with some exciting new things πŸ™‚

1.26.15

I have a few new hats in that will be coming in the store soon as well as some new mittens!!

1.26.15-2

With Payton hiking out the snow with me to pick Emma up from the bus stop, I decided it was about time we made her some cute mittens (the baby ones just don’t fit anymore!) But of course I couldn’t stop there – my brain is on new year new goals.

1.26.15

Instead of just MAKING them, I’m making the pattern and it will be available for purchase too! Stay tuned on my facebook to see when they are live or check out my etsy shop if you are interested!

What are you working on?

A New Chair for Payton

9 Jul

I know I just showed the preparation for Payton’s room but with a little help from my Momma and Mom-in-law we’ve got her room completely ready to go! I still have a few decorations I’d love to do in her room with some wall decor, throw pillow, and maybe a little rug by her crib, but that will come as I find the items I’m looking for πŸ˜‰

photo 5

Her sheets are on! We are doing a gray & yellow theme for her room. With my leftover gray paint from my office I’ve been considering about bringing some of that in here somehow πŸ˜‰

photo 2 (2)

Her changing table is ready for her – packed with diapers and wipes, we just need some decorations up there!

photo 3 (1)

Her chest of drawers are packed with washed and folded clothes! I’m so excited for this tiny arrival!!!

photo 1 (2)

The chair is here!!!!!!!!!! I finally have a glider rocker for my many late nights that are bound to come πŸ™‚ I am absolutely in love with this thing!

photo 4 (1)

And although it’s not gorgeous – it’s organized! We’ve got Payton’s closet all set up with clothes from Emma stacked and ready for her to grow!

Feels good to have all of that done and ready! 5 weeks to go!

Prepping Payton’s Room!

1 Jul

It’s officially Six Weeks until Payton is due for her arrival and the preparation for the nursery has begun!

photo 4

We are going through all of the old things we saved from Emma and sorting through the keepers πŸ™‚ I am so glad we kept everything.

photo 5

And since she is going to have a life long amount of hand me downsΒ we plan on purchasing her a few new items that are strictly just hers!

photo 3

I’m pretty impressed with our lack of planning and the fact that they will be less than a month apart in clothing size! Not only are they going to be the same season but if they are similar in size, all the clothes will be perfect!

photo 2

Her drawers are now filled with necessities and I feel like if she came at any point we are set. We did get one major gift from the parents and in laws that is due for arrival this week! There is going to be a glider rocker chair in this corner.

photo 1

Sorry it’s kind of a dark picture! I’m so excited to get this chair in, I have a feeling I’ll be spending a lot of memorable moments there πŸ™‚

Peanut’s Making It’s Mark

10 Jan

So now that the news out of the bag πŸ˜‰ and I am “officially” prego – I get to share the news of how it’s making it’s mark on the family so far!

photo 5

Although it’s only month two I feel like I’m showing. I know this is the teeniest tiniest bump to everyone else but it’s not letting me button my jeans anymore 😦 the saying about showing earlier the second pregnancy is quite true.

photo 2 (2)

I secretly wish that I could sleep like this during the day. THE ENTIRE DAY! Peanut is making me quite tired and it’s proving to be difficult to do daily tasks!

photo 3

Seriously – everyone is sleeping but me.. but according to Brian he gets all the sympathy pains, headache, exhaustion, hunger, stomach ache, queasiness, and and refusing to get the weight gain πŸ˜‰ haha!

photo 1 (2)

So far I don’t think Lexi has noticed a difference yet, except for that I’m curled up on the couch as much as I can each day (and she is enjoying it very much!!). We have been joking about how her world is going to go upside down when suddenly there’s no lap room anymore!

photo 4

My mother in law bought Emma a baby doll for Christmas (not knowing I was pregnant) but we are totally going to use this when Peanut arrives so she can take care of her baby while I take care it.

photo (3)

So far Peanut hasn’t affected Emma too much – except for the fact that she gets to stay in her PJ’s longer because I have no intention of doing more work than necessary when I’m super sleepy!

New Shelves!

8 Oct

So most of you know that I got my new storage shelves in this past weekend and spent this weekend putting them together and checking out how I’m going to use them!

I ordered three ClosetMaid cube shelves to use as storage in the studio room as well as to put on the table to use for craft shows. It took me about 45 minutes to put one of this little shelf together. Mainly because I don’t read instructions – I skim them, which results in having to pull things apart and try again!

Once I put it together I was so giddy I couldn’t stand it! They are so cute and each shelf holds two baby blankets perfectly! After putting one together, I got so excited that I decided to go ahead and put my table layout together to see what it would look like at the craft show. After setting up my first table I came to the conclusion that I’ll be using two for the show and the third one will stay home to store other supplies πŸ™‚

This is the first trial set up for the show. I’m editing the hangers that hold the infinity scarves and the blankets and pillows laying in front of the new self will be off to the other side. Once I get the second table set up I’ll show you how it’s going to look! The second shelf will be holding the hand painted frames I make. I love how it’s turning out πŸ™‚

Thanks for stopping by!

Love Always,

J

A How To: Burp Cloths

3 Sep

I’ve been making burp cloths almost as long as I have been blogging but I don’t think I’ve ever done a how to on it! The idea came from a family member who swore I could make them and wanted a few for a baby shower. Her confidence gave me a boost of energy so much so that I ran out to target that morning and bought a pack of diaper cloths to make pretty with fabric ❀

That’s where I started and this is what I ended up coming up with. Making my own burp cloths from scratch. It didn’t take long for me to get irritated with the fabric of diaper cloths as well as their unevenness! It drove me bonkers to the point where I said, “I can make these suckers myself – and better!!”

So here we have it. A How To for Burp Cloths made by me!

I start with two pieces of flannel fabric. One decorative and one plain for the back. I flip them so that the front of the fabric faces each other. Pin the long sides and sew a straight line down. Iron the edges and then flip it inside out!

Then I cut out the middle piece of the burp cloth as well as the batting to go in between. The little white piece in the middle is my tag that I made πŸ™‚

Next, I measure and put the batting and top material down the middle section and pin! Then comes the hardest part. Fold in the top and bottom edges so that they are even, iron, and pin.

Sew along all the edges and make sure not to forget your tag if you are adding one!

Then there you have it! A burp cloth in the shape and thickness, (if not a little thicker) MUCH softer, with full coverage for those messy babies πŸ˜‰

It takes me about an hour to make 2 burp cloths so they aren’t that easy to punch out a bunch of them, but now that I have my system down it definitely makes for a fun gift to give as well as pretty darn cute πŸ˜‰

A Day In The Studio

13 Aug

Saturday I had a day in the studio withoutΒ interruptions. It’s becoming sort of a great thing for me. Brian gets a day with Emma and I get a day to craft, then I can start the rest of my week on Monday knowing that I got a lot done over the weekend. It started out peaceful and I was so excited to jump in and get things done!

I cleaned it up, organized the room, and set up shop! I also made a list πŸ™‚ I organized a schedule that I wanted to keep up with that fit within our families needs but gave me enough time to balance the rest of my life.

After that I picked out what I wanted to work on for the day. I had some big plans:

I wanted to get a few burp cloths and an activity blanket done.

Some new frames were ready to be painted!

I needed to finish up my sisters runners for her wedding.

I also have had this fabric that I have been dying to make a pillow out of!

Stay tuned the rest of this week to see what all I got done!

Love Always,

J
