New Shelves!

8 Oct

So most of you know that I got my new storage shelves in this past weekend and spent this weekend putting them together and checking out how I’m going to use them!

I ordered three ClosetMaid cube shelves to use as storage in the studio room as well as to put on the table to use for craft shows. It took me about 45 minutes to put one of this little shelf together. Mainly because I don’t read instructions – I skim them, which results in having to pull things apart and try again!

Once I put it together I was so giddy I couldn’t stand it! They are so cute and each shelf holds two baby blankets perfectly! After putting one together, I got so excited that I decided to go ahead and put my table layout together to see what it would look like at the craft show. After setting up my first table I came to the conclusion that I’ll be using two for the show and the third one will stay home to store other supplies 🙂

This is the first trial set up for the show. I’m editing the hangers that hold the infinity scarves and the blankets and pillows laying in front of the new self will be off to the other side. Once I get the second table set up I’ll show you how it’s going to look! The second shelf will be holding the hand painted frames I make. I love how it’s turning out 🙂

A How To: Burp Cloths

3 Sep

I’ve been making burp cloths almost as long as I have been blogging but I don’t think I’ve ever done a how to on it! The idea came from a family member who swore I could make them and wanted a few for a baby shower. Her confidence gave me a boost of energy so much so that I ran out to target that morning and bought a pack of diaper cloths to make pretty with fabric ❤

That’s where I started and this is what I ended up coming up with. Making my own burp cloths from scratch. It didn’t take long for me to get irritated with the fabric of diaper cloths as well as their unevenness! It drove me bonkers to the point where I said, “I can make these suckers myself – and better!!”

So here we have it. A How To for Burp Cloths made by me!

I start with two pieces of flannel fabric. One decorative and one plain for the back. I flip them so that the front of the fabric faces each other. Pin the long sides and sew a straight line down. Iron the edges and then flip it inside out!

Then I cut out the middle piece of the burp cloth as well as the batting to go in between. The little white piece in the middle is my tag that I made 🙂

Next, I measure and put the batting and top material down the middle section and pin! Then comes the hardest part. Fold in the top and bottom edges so that they are even, iron, and pin.

Sew along all the edges and make sure not to forget your tag if you are adding one!

Then there you have it! A burp cloth in the shape and thickness, (if not a little thicker) MUCH softer, with full coverage for those messy babies 😉

It takes me about an hour to make 2 burp cloths so they aren’t that easy to punch out a bunch of them, but now that I have my system down it definitely makes for a fun gift to give as well as pretty darn cute 😉

A Day In The Studio

13 Aug

Saturday I had a day in the studio without interruptions. It’s becoming sort of a great thing for me. Brian gets a day with Emma and I get a day to craft, then I can start the rest of my week on Monday knowing that I got a lot done over the weekend. It started out peaceful and I was so excited to jump in and get things done!

I cleaned it up, organized the room, and set up shop! I also made a list 🙂 I organized a schedule that I wanted to keep up with that fit within our families needs but gave me enough time to balance the rest of my life.

After that I picked out what I wanted to work on for the day. I had some big plans:

I wanted to get a few burp cloths and an activity blanket done.

Some new frames were ready to be painted!

I needed to finish up my sisters runners for her wedding.

I also have had this fabric that I have been dying to make a pillow out of!

Stay tuned the rest of this week to see what all I got done!

J

Crafts: Work In Progress Wednesday!

16 Nov

Welcome to Work In Progress Wednesday! Here is where I show off whatever I’m working on for the week and I also give other shops a chance to show off what they are working on. I’ve always been a big fan of getting to know the person behind the shop and I feel like this is a great way to give everyone a chance to see a little bit behind the scenes of the lives of some amazing shops!

This week I’ve been crocheting a candy cane scarf for a custom order! As soon as I got this order I was super excited about making it and I love it so much that I might just make one for myself!! When it’s all finished I’ll be adding on pockets to the ends as requested. I love pocket scarves! I’m always the kind of person who loses gloves so this is perfect for sticking your hands in to keep them warm or dropping your cell phone in so it’s easy to get to later!

My shop is: Daydreaming Gifts

Here are some other stores I think you might like:

“This is my newest design, GlowBall Greetings- “Peacock Holiday” .  GlowBall Greetings are a unique way to show someone how much you care about them. GlowBall Greetings are a cross between my personal electronic art and traditional greeting cards. This concept came out of creating the first prototype for someone I was in love with a few years back…so the concept came out of love. awwwwwww…

Still working out the bugs with the color choices, though. I wanted purple to be in it…but i might go back to the royal blue ribbon. I’m working on a 2nd version now. I’m also working on the photos as well. There is a peacock feather in there…but i didn’t get a good shot of it. It’s in the back!”

“One of the many things I make are back packs, I found this really nice fall color Hawaiian print fabric and I am in the process of making one of my backpacks out of it. These back packs are great to have for going on a quick trip to the store, going to the gym, going taking some snacks and maybe a frisbee with you to the park. They are great to carry a few things you might need when you don’t want to carry a purse or a big backpack.”

“I am making this baby blanket as a Shower Gift and it has to be done by SATURDAY! I am already a week late as her shower was last week but my baby was running a fever so I schedule a make up lunch with her. Baby blankets are not my favorite item to make, but I do one ever so often.”

“I have been getting ready for a craft and toy show for this weekend. Usually when I go to shows I like to have my Jewelry trees for displays, and maybe sales to! So  I have three to make, I did one today and hopefully a few more tomorrow. Everything starts out like this….. just a bunch of wire and believe me you can’t take a GOOD picture of plain old wire. Then I twist the heck out of it, and it turns into a tree.”

“I am working on making these stockings for my family members as part of their Christmas gifts. I also have one for sale in my Etsy shop, Christi’s Crochet Corner. Give the gift for that special someone a unique touch with this crocheted masterpiece. Crocheted with Red Heart Supper Saver acrylic yarn this striped stocking measures 16″ long x 6″ wide. The cuff is crocheted with an embroidered holly motif. I can personalize this item with a name instead of the holly. Just let me know in the note to seller section at checkout and please allow an extra 2-3 days for me to make it.”

As the Holiday’s approach, I decided to debut some of my paper-goods at a craft-show my bestie, Jennifer told me about. I really wanted to be a part of one after I helped her with her show a couple of weeks back. Because I am pulling back on my hours at work I will be able to have more time to actually pursue these, Cupcake Wrappers. I’m really hoping to perfect these and let people know about this new niche in Cupcake Fashion!

“This is a pillowcase order for a 1-year-old.  The dress is so itty bitty, it’s too cute!  It’s pretty easy too.  I first cut the arm holes and then hem up the top and bottom.  You put the two pieces of hemmed cloth together and sew down each side.  Thread the ribbon in and you’re done! :)”

Made by CoverUndertheMat – Click the link to see her shop!

“This is the beginning of a ‘Cuddle Buddy’, my stuffed animal mini blankets.  🙂   This one will be an ivory fleece hippo with a brown cotton flannel nose, foot pads, and bottom. These blankets are a perfect size for your little one to carry everywhere!”

Crafts: Work In Progress Wednesday!

9 Nov

Welcome to Work In Progress Wednesday! Here is where I show off whatever I’m working on for the week and I also give other shops a chance to show off what they are working on. I’ve always been a big fan of getting to know the person behind the shop and I feel like this is a great way to give everyone a chance to see a little bit behind the scenes of the lives of some amazing shops!

This week I’ve been working on a few custom orders, a burp cloth set for my next craft show, and some cup cozies I’m doing for a giveaway! Although it seems like a lot – it’s been a lot less stressful and a lot more fun this week. I’ve decided to take a new attitude to getting things done in a rush! Instead of panicking and pushing myself and being unhappy I decided to go with the, “Don’t worry! It’ll get done in time!” method. Not only did everything get done in time – I’m ahead of schedule! So here’s a picture of cup cozies I’m in the process of making:

Probably sometime next week I’ll have these posted in my etsy store! DaydreamingGifts

Here are some other stores I think you might like:

“This set of 4 “farm animal” blocks is $ 15.00 and it’s for a sweet little girl named Anna.  This customer was one of my very first sales a few months ago.  I made custom sets for her  little ones.  She CAME BACK to purchase gifts!!! It’s very, very exciting and I am so grateful to have such wonderful shoppers. I am truly blessed to be able to do what I love :)” – MiaBoo

“This is a shopping cart cover for your little one that will make you never want to go back to a life without it! There are so many awesome features that stand out from others – it’s super cushy, reversible, made with materials specifically for baby (not hard metal), and has pockets for mom!!” – iBstitchN

“This darling toddler apron is made from designer fabric. It’s perfect for playdate, playing dress-up at a cafe, or helping mommy in the kitchen.” – babybarista

This awesome shop has an amazing Pre Black Friday deal going on! Type in Dreamy at the end of your order in the Coupon Code box and get 25% off!! This coupon won’t last so if you need some awesome Christmas presents for any babies or toddlers in your family hit this store up while it’s on!! This is made by babybarista – click the link to check out her shop!

“I got a lot of these clear glass coin like stones and decided to do something a little different with them. So I start by drilling a hole in to them, I sort of marble paint them, apply a clear glaze to protect it and then wire wrap it! It takes a little time to do this project, there are a lot of steps to it but I love the result and I think that it would work well with custom pieces.” – sweetnotion

“This a button up diaper cover is crocheted with acrylic yarn and is accented with a wooden button. This is perfect for photo shoots or if you just prefer cute diaper covers with outfits. This is small enough for a newborn and up to 3 months.” – nicolesbreastfriends

Crafts: Bring on the Boy!

2 Oct

It’s funny how I started out having trouble finding boy burp cloth material that I liked .. now I can’t seem to stop picking them up!! Here’s a few new burp cloths that I will be listing in my shop today:

This monkey one is actually going to be a set of four – I’m going to sell it separately or in a set with two pacifier clips, a bib, a blanket, and a taggie. But not until I master all those extra’s 😉

Then I made a neutral one!

Everyone loves Winnie The Pooh!

I’ve got a lot on my hands today! I have a big order that needs to be completed and since I’ve been out of commission due to surgery and meds I really need to get working on my inventory for my craft show in November. Crazy news on top of that is I got invited to another free table show Oct. 22nd. I’m not sure if I will be able to do both but I’m not willing to say no because it’s free and it’s going to be a great learning experience. Maybe just maybe things will work out in my favor these next two weeks and I’ll feel like I can really get some work done?

Let’s hope so because I just added a ton of stuff to my to do list!

Thanks for stopping in!

Crafts: A Sweet Surprise!

29 Sep

I’m just going to go ahead and say it – I am SHOCKED at how much I got done today. Especially because I didn’t even start crafting until 7:00 p.m. Today I got four new burp cloths done and I got a sweet surprise for all to see! But since I haven’t even stopped to show you what I made in the beginning of the week – I’ll save these four burp cloths for another day!

Monday’s Burp Cloths!

I’ve also been working on a custom order with some AWESOME fabric! I’ve made two burp cloths, making a wipe case, and a taggie blanket for a baby shower gift. Once everything is finished I’ll post a picture of it 😀 but here’s a sneak peek at the fabric:

It’s coming out so cute! I’ll be working on this for the rest of the week/weekend so I probably won’t get much else done but I’m so excited about it I don’t care!!!

Then the sweet surprise! One of the girls I BNR with was asking for help to review a pattern and I got super excited because it’s a cup cozy! I’m a sucker for those things because I love hot chocolate every morning, I love crocheting, and it’s a cute way to add I nice soft personal touch to an otherwise boring or ugly mug!

So she sent me the pattern and I made it no time and absolutely LOVE IT! I can see myself making hundreds of these while watching tv, in between sewing when my back needs a break, and when I’m feeling lazy. My house might just be full of these in no time!

The second best thing is that this yarn I used comes in almost every color imaginable! So the choices are outrageous! I just used some scraps I had on had and since it hardly takes any yarn I think I’ll probably be able to make 30 of these until I need to go buy more or I just want a different color! AWESOME!

Another completely awesome thing is that she isn’t selling the pattern as personal use only. So you might just see these if you are coming to the craft show 😉

Life just keeps getting better and better ❤

Crafts: No Rest for the Weary

10 Sep

It’s been a rough couple of days in this household. Nevertheless I pushed through and did some work.

The new burp cloths:

Orders I have been filling:

This one was a custom frame order. She did one pink owl frame and one blue owl frame.

She wanted the name put on the top and I think it turned out really well!!

Made an order for two of the robot burp cloths!

These monkey frames have been a serious hit! I just sent out an order for one the other day and I have another order to finish today!

If you are interested in seeing a full description or how much they cost – each picture has a link to that item in my shop or you can check out my whole shop here at DaydreamingGifts

Today I am taking it easy – working on my last monkey frame order and shipping them out. Other than that it’s going to be a relaxing day. With E being sick and me being tired from staying up all night trying to make her comfy – we are a lazy pair! Hopefully we all get our energy back tomorrow because I’d love to get another pile of burp cloths and frames done!

I have one more new burp cloth to make and then I’ll have to run to the store to get more fabric. Silly me can’t stand nothing having anything “new” in the house to work on 😉 I have an addiction.

Thanks for stopping by!’

Love Always,

J
