We Makin’ Cookies!

11 Oct

This is what Emma chanted last night the entire time we made cookies 🙂 I’ve been trying to bake more often around here and now that the weather is cool and the toaster keeps us warm – it was time to make some cookies!!

Today we decided to make Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies – if it weren’t for Betty Crocker Mixes – I’d never make these cookies so tasty!

First we stirred in the butter, egg, and a little bit of vegetable oil.

Then came the mix!

Stirring takes a lot of concentration, muscle, and some tounge 😉

Then we took a spoon and made cookie blotches on the pan. Emma was so shocked she got the cookie dough off the spoon without having to use her finger. That’s right – she banged it on the pan until it came off. That’s my girl!

Someone was so excited to watch them bake in the toaster oven. She wouldn’t leave the stool until they were ready!

I bet you can imagine her disappointment when she realized she had to wait for them to cool. In order to make time fly by we counted the cookies – a bunch of times!

Then it was time for a taste test! Nothing ends a great day like fresh cookies and milk 🙂

What’s your favorite thing to bake?

Saturday’s Special Guest Presents:

CreatedbyLaurie!

It has been a year now since I started teaching myself how to sew… and I have enjoyed every minute of it! I learned of Etsy from a friend and that inspired me to find new ways to reach out and get my creations discovered. I made a fan page on Facebook, and created a twitter account, and finally started a blog this year in late June- which I enjoy the most! I try not to make it all about my shop, but a fun and friendly site that also helps other Etsy shops get discovered. I have a schedule; Fun Mondays, Chatty Tuesdays, Crafts At Home (Wednesday), Giveaways (Thursday), and Picture This (Friday).
I have always found it relaxing to be creative with my hands- the kind of person who buys used furniture to take home, to paint and fix up, or spend an afternoon baking and decorating baked goods. I love to rotate what I do also so that I never feel like I am stuck or burnt out.

I can recall some memories growing up where I would be creative – such as making a catalog while in elementary school of items I owned for my brother, just incase he wanted to buy something 🙂 and even in highschool- there was an assignment of writing a short story… I bought large poster board sheets for each page, creating bright colorful pages with my story written out, I even recruited friends to help record a tape of the reading- along with sound effects to turn the page.

Any chance I see of being hands on creative, I will go for it. After becoming a mother I found many opportunities to learn new ways to be creative. When I see smiles and hear laughter, all it can do is make me wonder… “What else can I make?”

This time of year again!

30 Nov

It’s that time of year again when we are planning holiday festivites and spending a lot of time with the family. Holiday season for me now is no where near what it was like when I was a child. I didn’t do any shopping, wrapping, spending money, worrying about bills, or figuring out travel plans. I simply jumped up and down with excitement for Christmas morning, watched a zillion of holiday movies and tv shows, listened to Christmas music, and ate a lot of yummy baked goods. The only Christmas card I made was to Santa Claus. The good old days..

This year I have decided to do things a little differently! B and I did a majority of our Christmas shopping Black Friday and the day after and the rest I plan on purchasing online. I have made a list of who is getting what and from where and only spending a certain amount each paycheck so I don’t overdue it and the bills still get paid. Luckily now that we live near almost all of our family travel plans have been cut down to an hour to two hours distance and that is a lot easier to do then a 6-12 hour car ride!!

So this year I plan on jumping up and down for Christmas morning to come, watching a zillion of holiday movies and tv shows, listening to Christmas music, and eating yummy baked goods. Okay okay and a little Christmas wrapping too 🙂

Love Always,

J
