Happy Birthday Big Sister!

19 Aug

My Sister’s birthday was Monday, but we celebrated it yesterday! She wanted a relaxing night in with the family and my Dad’s family recipe for steaks. If you have never eaten one of his steaks before you are seriously missing out. That man has the recipe to bring you to your knees and never go out for steaks again.

Not only are they making my mouth water just talking about it – they are free! We don’t go out for steaks for dinner in this family often – who would after eating those?

Okay! Sorry, totally sidetracked 😉 HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the person I’ve always looked up to my entire life. Figuratively and Literally. Even though I haven’t quite followed her in her footsteps she seriously is a one of a kind, dedicated, and monumental person in my life.

So for all of you who are wondering what I got her? Here you go! She’s a book person – so why would I buy her anything else but book related things of course:

Oh that song 🙂 Haha – brings back memories! Yes – we do know all the words to that song. A sisterly bond that can’t be broken there. I got this from an awesome Etsy shop – if you want to check it out click on the picture!

Then books of course!

and more books of course. Can you tell the continuing theme here? But that’s not the only reason – not only are they books – but they are books by the people we grew up with. Memories oh memories 🙂 Let’s keep them coming back!

Thanks for stopping by,

Love Always,

We’ll Always Have Summer

23 Jul

Book Review of We’ll Always Have Summer by Jenny Han

Barnes & Noble Overview

Can Belly make a final choice between Jeremiah and Conrad? Find out in the conclusion of the New York Timesbestselling The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy, now in paperback.

Belly has only ever been in love with two boys, both with the last name Fisher. And after being with Jeremiah for the last two years, she’s almost positive he is her soul mate. Almost. While Conrad has not gotten over the mistake of letting Belly go, Jeremiah has always known that Belly is the girl for him. So when Belly and Jeremiah decide to make things forever, Conrad realizes that it’s now or never—tell Belly he loves her, or lose her for good.

Belly will have to confront her feelings for Jeremiah and Conrad and face the inevitable: She will have to break one of their hearts.

This paperback edition features bonus content, including Conrad’s letters to Belly and an excerpt of Burn for Burn, the upcoming new book from Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian!

My Review:

I have loved the first two books of this series from Jenny Han. It has been such an easy and relaxing read with a little drama and life going on in between. Although this book was as easy to read with drama – I wasn’t as much of a fan! I think it is definitely worth reading but I personally didn’t like the ending.

In this book you follow Isabel through the beginning of her college years. She’s out on her own, making her own decisions, and she’s left with the toughest decision of all. Conrad or Jeremiah? Which do you think she chooses?

I give this book a 3.5-5 stars.

My Favorite Things!

29 Jun

These past few weeks have been some of the best I’ve had in a while so I thought I’d give you a list of the awesomeness!

1. Spending Money

I surprisingly don’t get much of this. Mainly because I give it all to my hubby, I make half of what he makes, and my etsy store doesn’t bring in enough to really count it as spending (more like paying for what’s already been purchased).

2. Family & Friends

I can’t get enough of them these days 😉 all I want to do is go have fun with everyone which is not making crafting easy but I don’t care! The pool, the beach, the bar! Let’s go!!!

3. New Toys

Thanks to my spending money I get to go out and have fun & SHOP! Ahh I love new things that make you smile when you wake up in the morning. Even if it is just a bowl that holds fresh fruit! It’s pretty gosh darnit!

4. Books Books Books

I have a pile of great books waiting to be read ❤ It’s like jumping into a new world and getting lost for a while! Since I can’t go on vacation – that is my vacation! I think I might vacation tonight after dinner on the patio 😉 I deserve some down time!

5. The Sun

It puts me in a fantastic mood, which means I should probably move somewhere nice and sunny year round. If only Brian would let me 😉 But it has been nice to lay out and soak up those rays!

What are some of your favorite things about these past few weeks?

Great Finds with Family Time

16 Jun

What do you get when you have three female family member bloggers, two of which blog about books, and a library book sale?!

A pile of books so high that when you come home you realize you have no shelf space for them.. 😀 uh oh!

At the rate that I read – I have enough books to last me all year 😉 As for my sister and mom this might last three months!

If you love books, aren’t so great at returning library books on time (guilty for sure!), and don’t have the cash to a bunch of new books (also guilty) there are two options you have to find great books at great prices if you don’t mind weeding through some old ones.

Not all but most libraries each year do a book sale (sometimes more often) to get rid of the multiple copies of books to replace with new ones coming out. Our library gathers all these books, sorts them by hardback, paperback, mass media print, dvds & electronics, young adult, and children’s books – than short by Authors last name. Hardbacks are $2 and paperbacks & mass media are $1, but best of all kids young adult and children’s books are a whopping .50 cents!

Another option is thrift stores! Some thrift stores are better than others but I’ve come to find most Goodwill’s I’ve been to all around Virginia have a large amount of books for $1 and under – most of the time they are .25 cents – can’t beat that price!

After our book adventure we did a little shopping at Charming Charlies. It’s a cute little accessory store around here that my sister always comes to when she stops by. For those of you who have tiny feet like me and have a really hard time finding high-heeled shoes in a size 5 or 5.5 and you don’t have money for those drop dead gorgeous Steve Maddens – hop on over to the nearest Charming Charlies around or check out their online store here! I got these suckers and I already have six dresses I will be wearing these babies with 😀

So excited!!!

Stay tuned for my list of things I hope to accomplish this week and my trick to keeping things budget friendly without all the stress 😉

Thanks for stopping by!

Love Always,

Thoughtful Thursday: Vocabing it up ;)

2 Feb

My thought for this Thursday is vocabulary! Brought on by my daughter learning so many new words that she’s now making sentences out of them! Her favorite things to say this past few weeks:

“What ya doin?”

“Are you okay!!?”

“Oh mommy, baby crying…” referring to her baby doll then following it with a gentle kiss and cuddle.

“READY, GET SET, GO!!!!!!!!” And she takes of running.

Even though this picture wasn’t from today I wanted to share it with you so you could see the little one in action. She’s been addicted to books, music lover, and an award-winning imitator of PBS Kids Sprout and Nick Jr. Here’s a little preview for you:

This is Emma all snug and cozy under beside her book caddy “reading” one of her favorite books. She has remembered almost every major word on each page so she knows exactly what to say to make it seem like she is reading it for real!! Crazy girl! I absolutely love this picture of her because it’s just the kind of thing I did when I was a kid and I’m sure Brian did too. The oddest places were the most comfortable and she sat there for a good fifteen minutes with this one book!

Thanks to my spell of being sick I’ve also had a chance to get some reading done. I read The Best Of Me by Nicholas Sparks and it was a page turner! I’ve always been a huge fan of Nicholas and his writing skills. There’s just something about the way he words things or his flow that makes it so easy to read you don’t even realize how many pages you’ve flipped through! Those to me – are the best kind!

I also started another book this week called The Alphabet Sisters by Monica McInerney. I’m only on chapter two so I don’t have any news about this one except for the fact that it sounds super interesting!! It’s different from my usual read and I’m excited about it.

So here’s to widening our vocabulary! Both mom and child 😉

Daily Life: The Notebook Begins

29 May

Okay, so I am not exactly sure what happened to me last night. It might have been the three cups of caffeine that I drank (I haven’t had caffeine in at least a month) or it might have been pure excitement and inspiration but I went into crazy mode! For those of you who don’t know crazy mode, let me explain.

You know that feeling when one idea leads to another and then you have a list of things you want to get or do to make it happen. Then you have a few questions that might involve doing a little research. Then you have this plan that sounds fantastic and a time limit and budget. Then on top of that you get this completely random totally off subject idea about something else. Then start planning and fantasizing about that. Next thing you know your mind is going in a million directions and you want to do it all!! Now!!

That was my crazy mode. It was so crazy that I couldn’t get any sleep. So like everyone suggest when you have a million things on your mind and all you want to do is sleep.. I wrote them down in a notebook but somehow that suggestion that is sure to work doesn’t. I find myself laying in bed going over everything I wrote down again and again yet still awake.

After finally falling asleep at 1:30 last night I woke up at 5:30 a.m. ready to go! I got this burst of energy like it was time to get up and get it started. Me being the person who daydreams, plans my day, budgets, and does some serious thinking in the shower – I thought that might be the perfect way to start the day. Nope. I couldn’t wait to get out of the shower to start doing all my plans that I had already planned to do.

Then here I am. After y shower. 6:30 a.m. and I have no idea where to start. My brian is so clustered with so many ideas at one time I want to do it ALL! Another problem: I only have half of the things I need to start half these projects..

Looks like I’ll be crocheting and waiting for my mom to go shopping with me. I need a clear head to help me stay on track! Until then I am keeping this new notebook beside and I might not let it out of my sight incase I have any more crazy ideas!

This could be an interesting day!

Love Always,

Today is Sunday!?

5 Dec

Gosh my mental schedule is completely off these days! I feel like today is Monday but it is definitely not. It was a nice reminder when I woke up next to B still cuddling with me and it was 9:30! Sometimes I wish he didn’t have to go in so early so we could have some time together in the morning but I know that would only end up in him coming home later and I wouldn’t like that either.

On another note I am seriously excited about my possibilities for today! I have so many things that I could do and nothing that I have to do (besides laundry and taking care of E but that’s easy enough). I finished the book I was reading so I could start my next book! I don’t know about you but opening a new book is always exciting for me. You never know when a book could be a life changing moment for you, make you laugh so hard you might pee in your pants, or just a good read. Sometimes I hope for all three at one time but that’s just me! It’s like stepping foot into a completely different life and I absolutely love it!

Along with that I have a couple of projects I am excited about starting and if all goes well finishing 😉 Plus there’s always crocheting needing to be done but what makes it all so much fun is that none of it has to get done. I could literally sit all day long and not feel guilty about it! I love these days..

Isn’t it amazing that when you don’t have to do anything, those are the days you tend to get a million things done and when you need to get a million things done, you can barely accomplish one! That’s the story of my life.

So keep your eyes open because I just might be surprising you with some fun blog entries today 🙂

Love Always,

And this is where it all begins!

24 Oct

I started out this blog completely clueless about what I wanted to write about. I figured I’d start talking about my everyday life and a few people might follow along. Then I realized that this is a great place to get me back on track with my crafts and fun mom things I’ve wanted to do for sometime. THEN my sister got me hooked on books and now I have been reviewing things left and right thanks to this new survey thing I started. The best part of all is that I seem to be balancing all of these things and still getting my mom things done! (Even more so before because now I have motivation!) It’s amazing that this all started with my husband thinking about writing his own blog about sports, movies, and video games (the three loves of his life besides E and I of course) and what do you know.. I am the one blogging while he is still watching sports, movies, and playing video games. Haha I love him. But seriously the second I can get B to start blogging he will be on my blogroll list because he is an amazing writer.

It’s been exciting learning more about myself, other mothers out there, and for once in my life not feeling like I am not ping-ponging!! HOORAYY! I have mastered multi-tasking and not given up on one project yet. So keep your eyes open all you followers. Before you know it, this blog is going to make history 😛 Just kidding but wouldn’t it be cool!!? Haha. No but seriously, I said a little Thank you to all my 50 followers and this morning I don’t know what happened but my post titled Martha Stewart Hates Me 😉 got 189 views.. I hit over 200 today for the first time in my life I felt like I was reaching out to people! Okay okay, enough bragging. I get it, your yawning out there. Get back to the crafts J.. So here we go:

I promised an updated picture of my crocheting so here it is!

Sorry for the bad lighting and terrible picture quality. Love the convenience and hate the quality of camera phones!

I haven’t made it to the craft store today but it is on my list for tomorrow along with a trip to the library to pick up The Accidental Mother by Rowan Coleman. I am so excited!! I read the first 50 pages of this book using the Nook on Barnes and Noble (check out my previous post titled Book, Nook, Hooked if you are curious). Oh and I think I am getting a pick for E to review from my sister, K. That just might be the start of my review of children’s things because I sure have a lot to say about the toys this child has gotten!

Expect a couple of reviews from back when Emma was stationary. I am heading to the beginning and reviewing all those wonderful baby shower items and cleaning it out at the same time! YAY for decluttering!!

Yes that’s me prego with my all my gifts and little E in my belly!! Wow I look so much younger there …

Stay in touch.

Love Always,
