My Favorite Thrift Store!

24 Aug

I talk about going to Blue Ridge Hospice Thrift shop a lot – but I’ve never shown you what it’s like to shop there so I thought the next time I go I’m taking pictures – and I did!

My favorite things about this thrift store are:

  • All the proceeds go the Blue Ridge Hospice
  • You get a points card and a punch for every time you shop there! I’m halfway through mine and I’ll get $10 off my next purchase of $20 bucks or more (which is not hard to do here).
  • They have everything in sections that are clearly defined so if you are searching for something specific you can easily find it.
  • They have two floors of thrifty goodness!! (This place is huge)
  • They have a room dedicated just to craft supplies ❤ They had me at hello.

This mirror was so cool – I am actually mad I didn’t buy it. I’ve been seeing these pins on pinterest where people design things around a mirror and this one seemed like a perfect match – but since my storage is overflowing I’m not allowed to buy any new big projects until I finish the ones I have 😦

These chairs were AWESOME! In this family we like dark wood and these would be perfect for us. I even like the fabric choice but it was a little stained so I would need to reupholster it (not a problem). The problem? We don’t need chairs, nor do we have room to store them. Another bummer.

Apparently I have a thing for chairs – but can’t you see these in a little kids playroom!? Oh so adorable 🙂

Then we come to the craft room -which I only took to pictures of because I was entirely to destracted by all the goodies to stop and take more pictures (sorry!) but check out this wall of baskets! If you can’t find a basket here – I’m afraid you need to make your own! They have every size and every kind you could as for – even cute picnic baskets!

Tada!!! The fabric section. I could probably spend a lifetime in here if they let me. In fact the lady checking me out said she might almost pay me to take it away ❤ I told her I’d gladly take her up on that offer any day!!

So the pictures you are missing from the rest of that room are ribbon, yarn, thread, patterns, paper crafts, and more. It’s like a mini craft store in there! They even have a sewing machine!

More on my thrifty shopping later – this isn’t the last Blue Ridge Hospice post and I can promise you that 😉

Love Always,

J

Great Finds with Family Time

16 Jun

What do you get when you have three female family member bloggers, two of which blog about books, and a library book sale?!

A pile of books so high that when you come home you realize you have no shelf space for them.. 😀 uh oh!

At the rate that I read – I have enough books to last me all year 😉 As for my sister and mom this might last three months!

If you love books, aren’t so great at returning library books on time (guilty for sure!), and don’t have the cash to a bunch of new books (also guilty) there are two options you have to find great books at great prices if you don’t mind weeding through some old ones.

Not all but most libraries each year do a book sale (sometimes more often) to get rid of the multiple copies of books to replace with new ones coming out. Our library gathers all these books, sorts them by hardback, paperback, mass media print, dvds & electronics, young adult, and children’s books – than short by Authors last name. Hardbacks are $2 and paperbacks & mass media are $1, but best of all kids young adult and children’s books are a whopping .50 cents!

Another option is thrift stores! Some thrift stores are better than others but I’ve come to find most Goodwill’s I’ve been to all around Virginia have a large amount of books for $1 and under – most of the time they are .25 cents – can’t beat that price!

After our book adventure we did a little shopping at Charming Charlies. It’s a cute little accessory store around here that my sister always comes to when she stops by. For those of you who have tiny feet like me and have a really hard time finding high-heeled shoes in a size 5 or 5.5 and you don’t have money for those drop dead gorgeous Steve Maddens – hop on over to the nearest Charming Charlies around or check out their online store here! I got these suckers and I already have six dresses I will be wearing these babies with 😀

So excited!!!

Stay tuned for my list of things I hope to accomplish this week and my trick to keeping things budget friendly without all the stress 😉

Thanks for stopping by!

The Perfect Finds!

28 Mar

After a day long trip of thrift store hunting I found some AWESOME finds! I also found some awesome places to go back for some more shopping as well as other’s I’ll probably skip unless I’m looking for something specific..

Check out my awesome finds:

My mother-in-law found this perfect bench for Emma at the Blue Ridge Hospice Thrift shop! It doesn’t need anything done to it and we’ve already put it to use a few times 😉

I found this desk at Unique in Falls Church! I’m going to sand it down, paint it or stain it, and paint the top of the desk with chalkboard paint! I’m so excited to see how this turns out!

Here is Emma’s new desk chair! It needs a few touch ups so we’ll be sanding and painting this one as well. It’s a little big for her but she can get in and out of it on her own so I think this will be something she grows with perfectly!

This was an impulse buy! It was only two bucks so I’m going to touch up the paint, lay a thin sheet of wood down in it and wrap that with fabric to make a cute tray to place things in!

Heck yes for cheap patterns! Especially home decor patterns! I hate spending a bunch of money on patterns not knowing whether I’m going to like them or change them 😉 This is a great way to try new patterns without feeling that guilt of paying too much! I also bought some awesome fabric by the bunch that you’ll see when I show off my work with these new patterns 😀

Hooray for two dollar batting! I spend a fortune on batting and usually buy it in bulk like this but you can’t beat less than 50 cents a yard!

So those were my awesome finds this weekend! The Blue Ridge Hospice Thrift Shop in Purcellville is going to be my first trip each weekend from now on. That thrift store was AMAZING!

Stay tuned to see what I do with these perfect finds!

Thanks for stopping by!

Crafts: Craft Area Makeover!

3 Sep

First off – a big thanks to my awesome Engineer Dad for helping me plan/organize/and decide what to purchase for my craft organization makeover! This is just the BEGINNING of a lot of storage happenings that are coming soon. Here are some pictures!

This is the before picture .. and I know – its blank and boring. And it’s also the tiniest craft area I’ve ever seen 😦  But at least I have one right?

HOORRAYY!! All my stuff is finally OFF of my table so when I need to cut yards of fabric – I can actually lay it out on my table – what a genius idea! 😉

I got this wire rack and plastic containers from The Container Store. It was TOTALLY worth every penny. Easy to assemble and as long as you make sure to get the nails in studs it can hold anything – note the huge container of paint and I’ll admit it’s really heavy – and it’s hanging on without a problem!

I also have to give credit to the cute owl and bird tags I bought from Sarah – her etsy page is here – as much as I would love to say I made them I didn’t – she totally rocks!

These awesome box shelves I found at a yard sale for five bucks. It wish you could see it better but the lighting was horrible. The top shelf has ribbon rolls in it, the middle my pin cushion, staples, and paperclips, and then the huge pencil holder. I love the color of that thing!!

So far this has been a pretty inexpensive makeover! Everything at The Container Store was on sale from the college rush and I am all for finding things at yard sales and thrift stores – wiping them clean – maybe even a little spray paint – and making them brand new! I really want to get some scrapbook paper and attach it to the back so there’s a little color pop in each one. That will be another project for another day though!

Tomorrow my dad and I are working on some pre-existing shelving units we have in order to make them storage spaces for my stock of fabric – which I also need to go buy some so I actually have more than just a few yards of each.. I might do that tomorrow if I have extra time!

I’m loving this weekend!! ❤

More fun to come so stay tuned!!

Daily Life: Leaving It All Behind

25 Mar

For the readers who come on a regular basis, you may have a few questions for me. Like how come daily posts have become every other day. What happened to the 20 million photo’s and one liner’s about being a mom. You may be thinking that I am losing touch and giving up. Oh are you wrong 😉

After all that spring cleaning I did in the storage, I have gone through a rampage of “cleaning out” things all around the house. I’ve decided the shabby but workable is out the window. I’ve been upgrading baby!!! I think I have put more stuff in the thrift store, consignment store, and give away pile then I have EVER in my entire life – besides when I got pregnant and gave ALL my clothes to T 😛 She looks better in them anyway 😀

I probably could have jumped on the computer and written this 2 hours ago but I was zoning out. Today I thought I had the day off and was going to knock a million things on my list to do but if you know me by now I sometimes don’t hear everything right and well you guessed it.. It’s next week I have off Friday not this Friday. So little P came over and the poor thing was teething so bad she couldn’t stand it. No matter what I did the little girl was in tears. An hour later I finally got her to take a bottle, eat some oatmeal (which both were a challenge) and I sang her to sleep.

I can remember when E was teething.. it’s just something that every mother dreads. Not being able to soothe your baby or “fix” whatever is wrong is the most depressing feeling in the world next to not knowing what the heck is wrong with them!! It took me a day and half to figure out that E was teething and that day and a half was a full-blown panic attack for me. She was the easiest baby and all the sudden she was the unhappiest baby. Minor fever, didn’t want to eat anything, and the whining-sobbing-drueling mess. Oh and I will never forget those diapers.. you mom’s know exactly what I am talking about!!

At 12:30 I gave P baby Tylenol (by parents request) and she took another nap and woke up the happiest camper ever! We were giggling, tickling, singing, playing, smiling, cooing, and still drooling 😉 It felt good to know that she ate a good amount and had a good nap behind all that pain.

After that B and I put together the new kitchen table & chairs. It feels so great to actually own a table that I am not paranoid it’s going to fall apart on me any second!! (Same with the chairs). Now don’t get me wrong, I love hand-me downs. I love things that run in the family. I love thrifty things. It’s so nice to take something knowing it doesn’t matter what happens or what you do with it, that it’s all yours and if it breaks in the process. Oh well..

But it was so nice to actually pay a good price for something that will last us a while and something we don’t have to fix or change. We love it from the start! Not to mention I have twice the space to do crafty things 😀 hehe. The problem was getting B and I to agree on where it works best in our little home. Haha. I told my mom there was blood, sweat, and tears but there was only me being stubborn, him being stubborn, and me getting emotional (tears). After all that chaos we now have it where it will stay for QUITE some time. I do not plan on rearranging that thing unless I absolutely have to!

Along with all the chaos I didn’t exactly get .. well .. anything on my list done so I’ve been a little off my game today.

The good news? B and I are going with friends from his work to see a concert in Richmond tomorrow night. We are leaving E with my mom and dad and staying with my college BFF for the night! YAY a night off, a night vacation, seeing my BFF, and going to a concert all in one night! HOOORAYY! Then B and I are waking up and meeting my high school BFF in Williamsburg. I get to see BOTH of my best friends in a matter of TWO days! Lucky lucky me 😀 I have the best friends ever.

So tonight I am letting it all go, I’m setting my list aside, realizing that I have tons of time to get it done later, and going to leave it all behind me and enjoy this weekend. Sure it’ll be a little stressful when I get back but since the weather is still crummy it’s not like I’ll be cleaning this place out and missing out on warm sunny weather 😉 (Trying to look at the bright side!)

I hope my rambling leaves you satisfied. At least you know what I am up to.. or not up to 😀

Love Always,

J
