Christmas Tree Shopping!

17 Dec

There is nothing better than Christmas shopping with a little one.

We had a blast finding the perfect one!

Usually we get Hot Chocolate or Caramel Apple Cider while we are Christmas Tree shopping but this year it was nice and warm!! I think Emma enjoyed the warm weather.

Do you have any tree shopping traditions? I’d love to hear them!

Black Friday Finds!

25 Nov

I’ll go ahead and start off by saying that I never go shopping on Black Friday and if I do – I don’t leave the house until 2:00 pm when I’m positive the crazies are gone 😉 This year was a different adventure for sure!

I start out at 10 pm yesterday waiting outside of GameStop with my husband to get him a 3D Nintendo DS. As we were driving there I was holding my breath because I was pretty sure this trip would scar me for life! When we get there we were pleasantly surprised that we were the first ones! As more people showed up in the line the more we all got to talking and laughing. I’ve never had more fun waiting in a line before than this time. It helped that everyone has the same thing in common – a love for video games and excitement for getting a good deal!

After being first in line and having such a good experience I started thinking that I can handle this madness!!

I went to bed that night (morning) woke up eight hours later, ate breakfast, got ready and decided to head to JoAnns for some Christmas shopping with my mom and mother-in-law! My mom and I have decided since I was high school that it’s just easier to go shopping together and buy each other our presents together that way we each get something we really want instead of having to guess! So shopping we went. After getting there and realizing that the fabric deals were too good to pass up – I decided to stock up on my materials for the craft shows for next year and stock up I did!

Right there is roughly around 150 yards of fabric. I could have bought more but I limited myself!! If you’re not sure why I went all out – let me just explain to you.. Solid Flannel at retail price costs $5.99 + Decorative Flannel at retail costs $4.99. Normally this amount of fabric would have cost me about $800 dollars which I obviously don’t have to spend right now! How much did I save? Since all the flannel was $1.99 plus we had a 25% of all item coupon – we saved over $600. I’ll be set for the year 😉 That’s just a price you can’t beat!!

So where I swore I’d never be a Black Friday crazy person – I now am committed to being a Black Friday Crafty crazy person. 😀

Now who wants to help me cut all this fabric? haha 😉

Happy Black Friday everyone!

Love Always,

I am THAT mom!

3 Dec

Lately I have been that mom, the one who doesn’t want to get out of bed or off the couch. The one who forgets to clean up after herself and really just doesn’t have the energy to explain to you why. I am that mom. The fever, sniffles, chills, mom. Luckily it seems to be finally going away and this place is starting to look back to normal. Today I decided I needed a break from the sad silence of the house and turned on the radio for some pick me up music. The station that I usually listen to plays the top hits but today it has been playing older hits and I am actually enjoying it! Music has always been a huge part of my life and the more I listen to it the better I feel. It’s helped me get through some major chores that I have been putting off and I know B is going to be so proud of me when he gets home which makes me even more excited about what I have done today.

Other things to be excited about now that I am feeling better. This weekend we are celebrating my dad’s birthday (since his is on Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving is his favorite holiday we decided to move it to another day so he gets his favorite holiday and his own special day!) and we are also picking out the tree, putting it up, and decorating it. I love decorating the tree. It never feels quite like Christmas until you decorate a Christmas tree and my parents have a serious tree tradition! The tree is always pretty pricey, looks pretty perfect, gets decorated with a million ornaments that we have each gotten over the years as presents, and then we sprinkle real fake plastic snow on it to make it look like it’s outside with the wintery trees. My dad was so proud when he found the real fake plastic snow and we have done it every year since then and I have to say it just tops of the tree so gorgeously. You get the wonderful smell of Christmas, the gorgeous green color, wonderful lights, meaningful ornaments, then a light white powdery dash of snow to top it all off. There will be a picture as soon as it’s all complete 😀

On top of that I can’t wait to start crafting again! It’s really hard to be motivated to craft when you feel gross so I am excited to get back to some seriously crafty ideas! I have a few more ornament ideas I wanted to finish with paint, paper mache, and maybe some monograming. I also have an awesome wooden sign I want to finish off like I did with the wrapping paper and frames except this time I am thinking about using scrapbooking paper and construction paper. I am excited to see how it turns out. I saw a couple of other ideas on other blogs like mini christmas tree decorations made with styrofoam and glitter that look awesome and fabric ornaments. There is just so much I want to do! And even though I have been sick that hasn’t kept me from reading and crocheting so hopefully I’ll have a book review up soon and part of the jacket to show off. I was wondering if people knew how to monogram sweaters and blankets with yarn? I am seriously thinking about monograming E’s sweater!

Well anyways, enough of my ideas for now. I’ll wait until I have something good to show you 😛

This weekend should be filled with plenty of pictures!

This time of year again!

30 Nov

It’s that time of year again when we are planning holiday festivites and spending a lot of time with the family. Holiday season for me now is no where near what it was like when I was a child. I didn’t do any shopping, wrapping, spending money, worrying about bills, or figuring out travel plans. I simply jumped up and down with excitement for Christmas morning, watched a zillion of holiday movies and tv shows, listened to Christmas music, and ate a lot of yummy baked goods. The only Christmas card I made was to Santa Claus. The good old days..

This year I have decided to do things a little differently! B and I did a majority of our Christmas shopping Black Friday and the day after and the rest I plan on purchasing online. I have made a list of who is getting what and from where and only spending a certain amount each paycheck so I don’t overdue it and the bills still get paid. Luckily now that we live near almost all of our family travel plans have been cut down to an hour to two hours distance and that is a lot easier to do then a 6-12 hour car ride!!

So this year I plan on jumping up and down for Christmas morning to come, watching a zillion of holiday movies and tv shows, listening to Christmas music, and eating yummy baked goods. Okay okay and a little Christmas wrapping too 🙂

Black Friday & Why This Winter ROCKS

26 Nov

This year was the first year EVER that I have gone shopping on black friday! I usually avoid taking a step outside of my door just because the craziest of crazies come out on black friday .. or so I was told! But if you are a crafter then black friday is for you! Living near Washington D.C. we have a lovely thing called traffic and too many people living in one area but luckily because I went to Michael’s, Hancock Fabrics, and JoAnn‘s the lines weren’t long, the shelves were still stocked, doorbusters still available at 11:00, and everyone was in a pleasant mood! I saved a ton, parked near the front doors, and got amazing customer service! Even the other people shopping were nice!? Crazy huh!? I think this is going to be the beginning of my new black friday tradition – crazy craft shopping! I will be saving up until next year starting immediately 🙂  I managed to score a 200 dollar cricut cutter for only 60 bucks and reluctantly am going to have to wait until Christmas morning to play with it.. but once I do you better bet your bottom dollar I will have crafts out the wazoo! I also got some other awesome deals and fun things to keep me entertained for the next week or so that will also eventually show up on this blog 😉

It seems like lately I have had plenty of opportune times to do some serious crafting. Maybe it’s because that time management or lack there of read really got to me. If you have no idea what I am talking about see this https://underestimatedmom.wordpress.com/2010/11/14/i-am-a-blogaholic/. It’s sad but true! And since then I have managed to accomplish more than what I thought was possible and still have time to spend with my daughter and my husband. I have also been cooking a lot more which came as a total shock to me because I am not that great at it! Seems like the practice is working out though because everyone loved my chocolate caramel almond bars and my mother-in-laws cheesy potatoes! Yum Yum!

I feel pretty lucky to be able to be a stay at home mom, do the occasional craft shopping, find the luxury of time to craft, and still enjoy the moments I have with the people I love the most .. and of course blog about it 😛 I am so lucky to be married to such an amazing man. Which brings me to my favorite things about this year:

1) This is the first year EVER since I was a baby that I don’t have to go to school or go to work in the winter! YAYYYYYYYYY!!

2) I don’t even have to step foot outside the house if I don’t want to this year! (Thank you online shopping)

3) I don’t have to get dressed up in uncomfy clothes! Bumming it all winter yeeeeeeeeessssssssssssssss!

4) I get to snuggle up in nice warm fuzzy blankets 😀

5) HOT CHOCOLATE!! I think this will be a daily drink for me. yuuuMMmmmm.

6) If I want to go outside we have a covered porch so I can let E go play while I snuggle undercover 😛

 7) The house seems to stay so much cleaner in the winter! I don’t know why but it seriously does!

8) This is the one time I actually enjoy doing the laundry .. putting on fresh warm clothes from the dryer = awesome!

9) Being cold gives me all the more reason to snuggle with B. I am sucker for cuddling!

and last but not least!

10) Having the laptop on my legs is my favorite little heater 🙂

Love Always,

Catching Up!

20 Nov

Yes that’s right I have been a little bit behind this past week. After E was sick/teething my body decided to give out for a couple of days too. I had a little virus and stayed on the couch for a little while. Thankfully Nana agreed to babysit E so I didn’t get her sick and so I could get better faster! This resulted in me sleeping, showering, sleeping, watching tv, lounging, eating, sleeping, reading, and a little more sleeping! But I am feeling much better. So not only did Nana babysit but she brought over food! And not just any food, oh no, she brought the famous holiday family special goulash and let me just tell you that happens to be my FAVORITE holiday meal EVER. AND she made my favorite cookies haha. I am spoiled. I happily devoured it and went back to being lazy 🙂

YUMMY!! And if you want this recipe .. I hate to break it to you but I don’t even know it! One day I will … but I highly doubt I’ll be putting it on this blog. I think I am going to be keeping this one a Family Recipe.

These babies? You can find these at your local grocery store 😛 But I am sucker for these things! When I was pregnant with E and we moved here, every time we went over to Nana’s she would have this and I would devour them. She still makes them for me all the time and I think I will love these things until I die.

So since I did a lot of concentrating on getting better this week, I made up for a little of it today (key word little). Enjoy!

Christmas Puffs!!!!! I seriously never get sick of making these things. They are budget friendly and pretty dang cool looking once you get the hang of making them. I plan on using these to tie around my goodie bags and use as bows for presents. SUPER FUN!

The leftover scraps from the puffs that I thought would look really cool stuffed into a clear ornament? Maybe? That attempt might happen this week!

Stamping and Signing the flips ide of my Christmas Cards and the blank space is going to be the family picture 🙂

Cut up the paper and getting stuff ready to make fun Thank You cards for Christmas. More on this later!

And say hello to the second sleeve!!! Still a work in progress but hey look how far I have gotten!!

So I have managed to dabble in a little bit today and hopefully this week will offer a lot more! Oh and since I finally finished my book I am on to the next one on my list.

Excited to get this book started!

Love Always,
