Crafts WIP Wednesday!

31 Aug

Work in Progress Wednesday!!

This week I’ve been working on my first attempt to do a cowl scarf. The pattern I have calls for a much bigger hook than I own and much thicker yarn. I bought the thick yarn – then found out I didn’t have the right hook so I’ll have to go shopping again 😉 I couldn’t wait to get started on something so I went ahead and did a my own version of a cowl in a much smaller yarn and hook size than it called for. I haven’t quite finished it but it’s almost there!! Check it out:

I absolutely love how it’s turning out and can’t wait to get started on the thicker version. Here’s the picture of the on I plan on doing adventually:

Definitely a lot bigger and thicker!!

It’s weird but I’m actually excited for this winter! I don’t know if it’s because I have so many things I want to make and it’ll be nice not feeling guilty about staying inside like now when the weather’s so nice, or if it’s because I’m ready for hot soup and hot chocolate!!! For once I am excited for this winter!

Tonight I attempted making a different version of cheesy potatoes – It could have been better – but I am so proud of myself for trying! It actually felt good feeling like I was making something amazing from scratch. I’ll have to try again soon now that I know what I want to change to make it better 😀

Tomorrow is my day off and I have a few orders to fill but after that I plan on fixing up my storage. I’ve got a little organizing to do before I can really get my inventory up and stocked. I’m running out of places to keep things and it’s been a little chaotic!! I plan on showing pictures of the before’s and after’s and maybe even the in between’s so if you are interested in how to make things work in small places check back soon!

Oh and if you haven’t already stopped by DDsDarling’s is doing a giveaway that you can’t miss out on! It ends tonight at midnight! Check it out here!

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the week!

Daily Life: Stitch & B*tch

31 Jul

Today was my first stitch & b*tch! I was completely nervous about jumping in to a group of knitters & crocheters that had been meeting together and being the newbie. Well I’m so glad that I went! I met some amazing people and they are making me want to do projects I never thought I could.. but with their help I think I might just be able to!!

Here are a few projects I have in my “hope to do list”:

Super excited! Which one would you like to see me do?

Crafts: It’s Do or Die Baby!

14 Jun

I’m a little bit disappointed in myself. You would think with all this free time I have I would be crafting up a storm but instead it’s taking me ages to get anything accomplished. I have gotten a little work done with my embroidery but I really haven’t spent as much time on it as I thought I would.

I’ve only got five more days to do or die here! I’m going to start pulling out all the things that I’ve been putting off and start busting my butt to get them done. I’m going to try to finish one project a day. Five projects in five days. This is the beginning of my challenge. Let’s make it happen 😉

Crafts: Baby Madness!

3 Jun

So I got a phone call from my cousin today and it looks like I am in business! I am going to be monogramming baby bibs, making burp clothes and monogramming them and possibly more!! This is super exciting 😀 I can’t wait to go shopping tomorrow to see what I can find for little baby girls. Who knows, I may stock up on some stuff and add a few listings on etsy!! This is one project I won’t have trouble getting into. Then on top of that I am going to be making a duvet cover for my sister. Well I’ll stick with saying I am going to attempt it! I’ve never made something like this before so I am going to have to do a little practicing but I’m excited to learn something new! Especially something that could potentially save people serious money! Inexpensive gorgeous crafts are my favorite.

So let’s get to it!! Hopefully I’ll be posting pictures tomorrow night of the progress 😀

Crafts: Monogramming Baby Bibs

18 May

I managed to finish all the baby bibs in one sitting!! I considered doing embroidery but since it’s fairly new to me I stuck with cross-stitching. I think they turned out pretty well! Hopefully baby M’s Mommy loves them too.

I’m not going to lie. It was SUPER fun! This is something that I would seriously be willing to do for anyone .. at any time! It doesn’t take long at all and once you get started you don’t want to stop! I could probably do about 20 of these in one sitting. This is my new obsession!

I put the pictures in most favorite to least favorite. Just because I used a different pattern in each of them except the first two and those two were my favorite. The first bib was my favorite for sure and it shows the monogramming really well.

Does anyone know where I can bulk order bibs online? Haha. I might be in trouble here..

Crafts: A Family Affair

17 May

Thanks to my sister I have a few fun new projects to tackle! Her boyfriends sister is expecting a little baby boy so I got to go shopping for some bibs and I’m going to cross-stitch or embroider the letter M on them for the new baby boy. Since plain bibs are impossible to find, I found some a pack with some cute patterns on them and am hoping that the thread I picked will go well. These are my favorite projects to do, the ones that actually go to someone who can enjoy them! It’s fun to make projects for no one in particular but I love personalized gifts and can only imagine the excitement of someone else getting something just for them.

I’ll be taking pictures of the progress so you can see!

She also has another project for me! Turning a duvet cover into curtains!! Should be super easy and super fun!!!

I have a feeling I might get addicted to these things 😀

Crafts: Monogramming Round 2

15 May

After posting my first cross-stitching success I decided to bust my butt and finish the T! I had the top half done and pushed myself to finish it tonight 😀

It actually turned out a lot better than the P. Probably because I am getting the hang of it but I still want to try a smaller waste canvas size!

Another thought I had after finishing this one was just doing an outline instead of fulling it in and then trying a different type of stitching. I’m not sure if there are actually different ways to stitch but I’ve got some ideas in my head that I think would be cute 😀

Hopefully more to come soon!

Crafts: Monogramming Madness!

15 May

Hooray! I finished my first cross-stitching letter and .. I am not that great at it! But practice makes perfect so I am making a T next 😀

I am really happy I stuck with my idea even though everyone gave me funny faces when I suggested my plan! I think once I get better at cross-stitching it will be a super cute way to finish off my frames.

I also think I need to add a layer of stiffener to the back of it so it doesn’t pucker the fabric as much. I was a little worried when I had the idea that it would make the frames that much more expensive but it turns out cross-stitching is super cheap! Once you have the needles and hoop the waste canvas is $1.00 for 12″ by 8″ (which makes three frames worth for me) and the thread is like 60 cents each. One pack of thread did this entire P. I’m also thinking about getting a smaller size waste canvas so the little purple fabric doesn’t show through as much in between the stitches.

Let me know what you think!

Daily Life: Let’s get real!

10 May

This nice sunshiny weather is making it impossible to get things accomplished! I’ve been spending a lot of my free time lounging in the sun and daydreaming. It’s my favorite thing to do but it’s not exactly working with my one year plan! So what’s a crafty girl to do when the sun shines down and the mood get’s lazy? Get up off my bum and get some inspiration! Nothing gets me back on track than finding something I can’t resist trying and that something might just be what I need to get these painted frames the finished look I’m striving for.

Imagine this:

with this in the inside of the frame:

I think they would be SUPER cute!

This thursday is my errand day so I’ll be shopping for some cross stitching stuff. I haven’t done cross stitching since middle school… so it may be a slow start but I felt like maybe I needed to add a little something to my frames. As much as everyone has told me they love them I haven’t really felt like they stood up to their potential! I am all about personalizing things and monograming. I feel like it gives you that little feeling like someone actually took the time to give you a gift that was really meant for you! Plus monograming is totally in 😉

I can’t wait to get started on this but I’ll just have to keep crocheting until I get the stuff I need!

Is anyone else having trouble being crafty when the weather is so nice!!?

Tips and Tricks are always useful! Fill me in on what you do when you get in these kinds of ruts!

It’s only 9:00!

22 Dec

It’s only 9:00 and I am done with all my chores!! I woke up this morning at 5:00 a.m. and I couldn’t go back to sleep. I can’t even remember the last time I woke up this early and not only was I awake but I was seriously energetic! I had so many cool crafty ideas floating through my head that I thought, maybe if I write them down I’ll go back to sleep. Oh I made lists, and than I realized that I was even more awake and excited to get the day started then before hand! So at 6:00 I hopped out of bed, took a shower, cleaned my room, made my bed, cleaned off my desk (it was a huge mess), cleaned the living room, hallway, kitchen, did the leftover dishes from last night, cleaned out and reloaded the dishwasher, crocheted a little, ate some breakfast, and THEN at 8:15 E finally woke up! I fed her breakfast and here I am, with all my cores done, E playing, and the only thing left on my list that I really need to get done is wrap presents! HOLY COW! I should do this every morning!

I am sure when it comes down to E’s nap time I will be joining her 😉 but right now I am still pumped and ready to go! Today my mom is spending part of the day with me, she is going to help me learn how to crochet a different way, and help me figure out how to make all my crafty ideas come true! She said she didn’t know where I came from because she doesn’t have a crafty bone in her body but I agree to disagree there. She is the one that taught me how to cross stitch, crochet, color, and bought me all the crafty things I could desire when I was a kid. As much as she thinks that she doesn’t have the craftiness in her, I swear she does!!! My addiction to rearranging furniture and having a nack for interior design – yeah that come from her too. Silly mom!

Well what am I doing sitting here chatting away! It’s time to get crafty!!!

Love Always,

J
