Saturday’s Special Guest!

24 Dec

Saturday’s Special Guest Presents:

It has been a year now since I started teaching myself how to sew… and I have enjoyed every minute of it! I learned of Etsy from a friend and that inspired me to find new ways to reach out and get my creations discovered. I made a fan page on Facebook, and created a twitter account, and finally started a blog this year in late June- which I enjoy the most! I try not to make it all about my shop, but a fun and friendly site that also helps other Etsy shops get discovered. I have a schedule; Fun Mondays, Chatty Tuesdays, Crafts At Home (Wednesday), Giveaways (Thursday), and Picture This (Friday).
I have always found it relaxing to be creative with my hands- the kind of person who buys used furniture to take home, to paint and fix up, or spend an afternoon baking and decorating baked goods. I love to rotate what I do also so that I never feel like I am stuck or burnt out.
I can recall some memories growing up where I would be creative – such as making a catalog while in elementary school of items I owned for my brother, just incase he wanted to buy something 🙂 and even in highschool- there was an assignment of writing a short story… I bought large poster board sheets for each page, creating bright colorful pages with my story written out, I even recruited friends to help record a tape of the reading- along with sound effects to turn the page.
Any chance I see of being hands on creative, I will go for it. After becoming a mother I found many opportunities to learn new ways to be creative. When I see smiles and hear laughter, all it can do is make me wonder… “What else can I make?”
Thanks for stopping by!
Love Always,

Feature Friday Presents….

I am a wife of two years, musician, piano instructor, and artist. My designs come from necessity – I can never find what I’m looking for when I’m looking for it. I heard of etsy from a friend, and decided to post some of my creations so others can find what they’re looking for when they’re looking for it.

What got you interested in crafting?

I was homeschooled all the way through from first grade and had a lot of free time on my hands. My mom is creative, so she definitely encouraged me to try different mediums. I even took art lessons until sixth or seventh grade, and climbed all the way up to oil painting. I’ve focused on jewelry and cards, though, since middle school. I love wearing jewelry, and it was cheaper to make my own AND it fit me perfectly. (You see, my wrist is only 5” around. What most people buy as a bracelet, I can use as an anklet.) And I love to send encouraging notes to friends and loved ones.

What has been your favorite project to make and why?

I never have a favorite until it is finished. Oftentimes, I don’t like what I’ve anticipated, and really love what I thought wouldn’t work out.

What’s the secret behind your etsy name?

My husband Cherishes me. I love that word. And I love hearts; my  engagement ring is a heart. I wanted Cherished Heart Designs, but that didn’t fit into my shop name on etsy. The “s” on Designs made it too long. Cherished Heart Design? I don’t think so. I didn’t like “shop” – the spelling looks unromantic. My husband came up with the fancy spelling. And it fit! So, I have Cherished Heart Shoppe.

If you could open up a shop in your town what would you call it and what would it be like?

I think I would keep it the same name. It would be very warm and calming. The interior would be designed in a romantic vintage style. Oh, and there would be homemade snacks.

What is the most challenging thing you have made?

My Beaded Cuff Bracelets were the hardest to make. Wrapping the wires around tiny beads, trying to tie the wires in a knot at the beginning and end of the bracelet had my fingertips nearly bleeding.

What are some of your goals you hope to achieve within the next year?

I would love to be a stay-at-home wife within a year, creating and selling my designs from home. I have a deep longing to make all of my husband’s and my food from scratch (like even milling my own flour) so we’re eating all the available nutrients rather than preservatives and “enrichments” (chemical nutrients).

What inspires you to be crafty?

1) Necessity – not having enough in the budget for the many baby gifts, birthday gifts, and Christmas presents, and

2) Finding just the right materials, like beads or a certain color ribbon or a cute stamp. If it screams “use me!” then it inspires me.

What is your best quality when it comes to your crafts?

For better or for worse – I am a perfectionist. That’s bad for me, because I’ll drive myself nuts trying to make something “perfect.” That’s wonderful for my customer, because their item won’t be “imperfect.”

If you could have one thing to help your store what would it be?

A few more sales! Actually, I would also love input from guests that stop by, like if they would rather have card sets than individual cards, how they like my jewelry designs, what were they hoping to find at my shoppe, etc.

What fictitious character are you most like?

I am just like Anne of Green Gables – in every way. My two favorite quotes:
1) If you’re going to call me Anne, just be sure you spell it with an ‘e.’ What difference does it make how it is spelled? It makes a lot of difference! Print out A-N-N and it looks absolutely dreadful, but Anne with an ‘e’ is quite distinguished.”
2) “If you only knew the things I wanted to say and don’t…you’d at least give me some credit.”

If you haven’t checked out her store already go here: CherishedHeartShoppe

If you have some extra time – be sure to leave us a comment here letting Emily know what you love from her shop!

Daily Life: Let’s Get Real!

28 Sep

So after a seriously huge response on my way too serious life post – I’ve decided to keep up with it. So Daily Life is going to take a new spin on things – instead of it just being about my day I’m going to start posting things that are on my heart at the time! It’s true that sometimes I just like to read what others are thinking and how they are dealing with life so why not tell everyone else what I’m doing and thinking?

Every day is an adventure in this house – with E hitting the terrible twos – B working extra long hours and weekends – and me attempting to start a business – there’s always bound to be something going wrong! Yesterday I busted my butt making a home-cooked meal for my family and I was so proud of me because it actually tasted good!! E decided that the cheesy potatoes would make a wonderful face mask and leave in hair conditioner 😛 There’s not much you can do about it but laugh because it’s too exhausting to get upset! So after cooking and cleaning I threw E in the bath tub and thought about how upset I get with her sometimes.

If yesterday would have been anything like today I would have contemplated crying. Today I had a zillion errands to run and way too much on my mind to deal with any mishaps – and even though she wasn’t the best little girl that she normally is and things didn’t quite go as planned – she didn’t put potatoes all over her face and hair – thank goodness!! Which brings me to my next subject.

I want to be the mom that laughs at her potato face everyday. I want her to see that it’s okay to make a mess sometimes and that I love her just the same! Does it mean that I am a bad mother when I’ve got too much to do to deal with and the craziness she brings a long? I sure hope not.. but I guess I can always strive to be better. How do you face overwhelming days? I know I do things a lot differently now that I have E.

When I was upset about something before E – I would hide in my room, turn on music, sometimes cry, and refuse to do anything else for the rest of the day. It’s not that easy when you have someone who needs you almost 24-7! Today I’m sitting on the couch, listening to pandora, not crying – but heck am I exhausted .. and not even the tired exhausted, just wide awake exhausted!

It’s days like these I try to step back and say life happens and get over it but deep down I still beat myself up about it wondering if I could have done anything differently that might have helped. This is something I really want to fix. Why am I wasting my time worrying about something I can’t fix? So today I’m calling out to all those who are beating themselves up over things they can’t fix! I am the queen of it and quite honestly it’s wearing me thin.

I know there’s no sense in wishing I could go back and change things but let’s get real here, it happened, it’s over, and even if you could rewind – could you fix it? Chances are slim! So why do we take it out on ourselves and stress about it all day? Boy do I wish I had an answer for that!

Thanks for stopping by!

Love Always,

E’s face after I cleaned off most of the potato disaster 😛 She wouldn’t stop giggling – she was a riot.

Daily Life: BNR Queens

7 Sep

It’s amazing how just a few other people doing the same thing as you can really change you entire perspective on life. It only took a few hours for me to fall in love with the women I have met through BNRing. Each one of us do completely different handmade crafts and yet we all have so much in common! Our goals are so similar it’s scary 😉

This week I’ve been working with some old BNR friends and some new ones and I can’t even explain how amazing it has been. Check out some of the amazing things they make below or come join us and chat in our BNR. You don’t have to buy anything or sell anything – we’d just love to have you stop by and say hi! http://www.etsy.com/treasury/MTE0MjQ0NTh8NjgzMzcxMjU2/open-bnr-daydreaming-gifts-part-3-round?page=25#comments

Crafts: Craftaholic in Action!

1 Sep

Today I busted my butt. I was determined to get a list of things done and I accomplished .. almost everything!

I filled orders

I primed frames for my next order and a few new listings

I worked on my storage – these are before pictures

My dad and I are going to do a little more building/cleaning/organizing before it’s finished but at least now all those boxes and baskets are now narrowed down to three, and the walkway path through the storage is much nicer!!!

I also plan on going thrift store/home depot/yard sale hopping & shopping this weekend to find better/cheaper ways for storage. I plan on combining a lot of awesome things I’ve seen on pinterest and other blogs and making it a huge DIY project with the help of my dad 😛

Hopefully my little craft corner will be able to meet the needs of my craftiness instead of overflowing into the rest of the house!

I’ll update with awesome finds and pictures as they come!! Oh and I also picked up a few new things for frames.. I’m addicted I know.

So that was my day – with a little of the usual daily chores, eating, cleaning, and playing with Emma ❤ Right now – I’m sitting back and relaxing since I’ll be working again tomorrow. Hopefully it’s another easy day 😀

If you missed on the giveaway last week and you’re feeling kind of bummed about it there’s a giveaway that one of my etsy friends is in. I’ve purchased from her and my daughter and I absolutely love her stuff. The website is ambersloveonwings.blogspot.com and good luck!!

Crafts WIP Wednesday!

31 Aug

Work in Progress Wednesday!!

This week I’ve been working on my first attempt to do a cowl scarf. The pattern I have calls for a much bigger hook than I own and much thicker yarn. I bought the thick yarn – then found out I didn’t have the right hook so I’ll have to go shopping again 😉 I couldn’t wait to get started on something so I went ahead and did a my own version of a cowl in a much smaller yarn and hook size than it called for. I haven’t quite finished it but it’s almost there!! Check it out:

I absolutely love how it’s turning out and can’t wait to get started on the thicker version. Here’s the picture of the on I plan on doing adventually:

Definitely a lot bigger and thicker!!

It’s weird but I’m actually excited for this winter! I don’t know if it’s because I have so many things I want to make and it’ll be nice not feeling guilty about staying inside like now when the weather’s so nice, or if it’s because I’m ready for hot soup and hot chocolate!!! For once I am excited for this winter!

Tonight I attempted making a different version of cheesy potatoes – It could have been better – but I am so proud of myself for trying! It actually felt good feeling like I was making something amazing from scratch. I’ll have to try again soon now that I know what I want to change to make it better 😀

Tomorrow is my day off and I have a few orders to fill but after that I plan on fixing up my storage. I’ve got a little organizing to do before I can really get my inventory up and stocked. I’m running out of places to keep things and it’s been a little chaotic!! I plan on showing pictures of the before’s and after’s and maybe even the in between’s so if you are interested in how to make things work in small places check back soon!

Oh and if you haven’t already stopped by DDsDarling’s is doing a giveaway that you can’t miss out on! It ends tonight at midnight! Check it out here!

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the week!

Love Always,

Daily Life: I’ve become a busy bee!

17 Aug

I went from having nothing to do but take care of my daughter, the child I do child care for part-time, and craft. Well this girl is now booked solid for the rest of the week!!

Tonight B, E, and I are headed over to my brother-in-law‘s house for the football draft and pizza! I’ll be working on my BNR, crocheting, and making sure E doesn’t get into anything she’s not supposed to 😉

Tomorrow I have a few errands to run in the morning along with projects that need to be completed & shipped out! Then tomorrow night I am going to Alexandria for Fibre Spaces get together to crochet and possibly learn something new 😉 We’ll see how well that goes!

Friday I have all day to craft and BNR 😀 YAY!!!

Saturday I’ll be in a coffee shop in Alexandria crocheting with some more people and then back to do childcare for the girls so parents can have a date night 😉

Sunday I am spending the day with my Sister and my Mom going to go see The Help and go out to dinner for my Mom’s birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!

Wow! I even had to cancel movie night at a groups house because I got too packed..

Oh and did I mention I need to work on a few feature Fridays???

Let’s not get overwhelmed 😉

Guess I better go get some work done before the girls wake up from nap time!

Crafts: Baby Burpin’ Love ;)

13 Aug

I know I said I wasn’t buying any new fabric and just making inventory of the ones I already purchased.. but I couldn’t resist 😀 So today I did two that I’ve done previously – Pretty In Pink and Polka Dotted Pink

Here are the two new ones I’ve done:

Stencil Me Pink & Green ** Now available on my Etsy Page!

Baby Blue, Tan, and Brown ** Now available on my Etsy Page

I’ll be posting these on etsy in the next few days and add their links here once they are posted. Still trying to think of names for them so if you have any suggestions/ideas let me know!!

I’ve got two more burp cloths on my list to do today, then an e-reader, a change bag, and monogramming bibs.. Let’s see if I can get it all done 😉 I’m not going to lie – I did “waste” sometime this morning pre-cutting fabric strips so when I go to make more they are already cut to size. I say “waste” because I don’t really feel like it’s a waste of time. It’s fun to see how many I can make out of one yard and see how much scraps I have left to make other things with 😀 But then again I get less done.. it’s a tough price to pay 😉

E should be waking up any minute and who knows when the hubby will get home. I’m trying to think of easy dinners so I can keep up the work momentum.

Crafts: Tagging It Up

28 Jul

What I thought would be a quick – maybe an hour project.. became an entire day event! I knew I needed a new black ink cartridge – I’ve needed one for months now! So this morning I ran out to the store and bought some along with printable fabric paper and a crochet needle. I had already taught myself a new crocheting trick, planned on making a quick swatch and doing some designing with the crochet needle, then taking a break and printing tags, then making a new burp cloth! That was the plan..

Once I got home and started up the printer (which hasn’t been used in MONTHS) I then realized I needed three cartridges – not one! Back to the store I went thinking that this trip is costing me more than I planned on spending and making me a little frustrated. I got home played around with printing ideas – decided to make it simple and tested a page. Loved it! Printed it on fabric paper and sewed it into a new burp cloth which is still needed to be finished!!

I haven’t made a swatch or played with my crochet needle but I’m hoping I’ll have time for that during nap time tomorrow but I’m slowly starting to realize why it’s taking me so long to get things done that I normally had no problem doing in one day. With B working so late and me being the only one here to entertain, feed, and get E ready for bed – it takes up all that extra time I had to get last minute things done. So now when she’s going for bed I’m wasting a lot of time cleaning up, getting ready for tomorrow, and running around with my head loose wondering how it’s already 9:00 and I am just now sitting down and trying to plan what I wanted to get done. Unfortunately it’s not enough time.. I’m going to have to think of a new dinner time routine. Back to the drawing board!

But before I do all that – here’s the finished picture of the tag!

Not the best quality picture but it will do for now. I’m just glad that’s something I can cross of my list .. after I finish sewing the rest of the burp cloth that is 😉

Time to go back to running around with my head loose!

Love Always,
