Fireworks

13 Jul

This fourth of the July we had planned on going to a big park near us and watching the fireworks but it didn’t quite work out as planned. Thankfully we have awesome neighbors who don’t mind helping us celebrate in our alley way!

photo 1

Emma covers her ears around loud noises, she always has been a little sensitive to anything on the loud side. Last year she was terrified of the noise and the fireworks themselves.

photo 4

This year she still covered her ears but screamed, ” ANOTHER ONE!!!” as soon as one went off. She was even brave enough to hold her own sparkler this year 😀

I would say it was a successful year and maybe next year she’ll be ready for the BIG LOUD booms of the fireworks at the park.

I hope everyone has a happy and safe Thanksgiving! Today we are spending it in Alexandria with family. A lot has happened in the past year for my sister and I and I am so proud to be spending Thanksgiving at her house this year. We are finally grown ups and able to celebrate the holidays in our own homes. I’m also super thankful because I know her and her husband are going to make mouth watering food! I’ve never had a meal there that I didn’t love!

If you want to see updated pictures as thanksgiving goes along with my family, keep checking the instagram roll on the right of my blog ——->

Love you all!

Christmas At 3

1 Jan

This year Emma had 5 different Christmases!! That’s what happens when you have a huge family and you live close to all of them 🙂 We actually missed out on one family Christmas this year so there could have been six! Whew. So instead of splitting them all up into different posts I’ll just give you the quick peak at a few of them.

005

Little miss too excited to wait two minutes for me to get a pick before she saw all the presents! She was so excited!

018

This year we let her play with each toy after she opened it. Needless to say it took from 9am-4pm the first day!

Emma’s dressy outfit 🙂

By Round 3 of Christmas she was a professional at opening presents!

031

Brian and I enjoying watching her open presents instead of having to help her like last year 😉

030

Chick Fil A treats for Christmas this year! I had to share mine of course 😉

A beautiful mist of snow just in time for Christmas this year.

Now it’s time to say goodbye to December and hello to the new year!

I hope you all had wonderful holiday’s this year and I am looking forward to a new year of blogging here! What are you looking forward to this year?

We had a blast finding the perfect one!

Usually we get Hot Chocolate or Caramel Apple Cider while we are Christmas Tree shopping but this year it was nice and warm!! I think Emma enjoyed the warm weather.

Do you have any tree shopping traditions? I’d love to hear them!

Holiday Weekend Fun :)

26 Nov

Emma had a blast this thanksgiving weekend. Thursday we went over to see the North side of the family and Emma got to play football with her cousins and color with Dodo:

All that good food and playing led to this on the way home:

One zonked out child 😉 It was only a matter of minutes when we got her in the seat to get to this state!

Friday we had thanksgiving with the Durhams where Emma got to play with Tyler:

They are like two peas in a pod! Playing ball, building lego houses, puzzles, and chasing each other through the house. I have a feeling these two are going to enjoy growing up together.

Saturday we spent the day at Josh & Sarah’s house dog sitting. Emma spent a majority of the day building “sand castles with slides”:

and pretending to be a princess with the new necklace that mommy made:

Sunday was Papa’s birthday! So Emma went to Nana and Dodo’s house to play while the grown up went out to the movies and dinner.

This was on family filled holiday weekend! I hope your weekend was just as entertaining 🙂

Love Always,

J

Happy Thanksgiving!

22 Nov

This year for Thanksgiving – we are spending time in Front Royal with Brian’s side of the family. We do it potluck style where we each bring  something, we catch up, watch the game (I married into a Redskins family), and eat!! I can picture it now – the men in their jersey’s hanging out in front of the TV, the women talking about life, and Emma running around like she’s been eating sugar for weeks 😉

So while that image entertains you (hopefully as much as it entertains me) here’s a list of things I am thankful for this year:

My loving family.

The ability to do what I love each day.

That even though sometimes we are stressed out and trying to make things work around here – that we are able to do it and we make it through all the hard times together.

I know that there is WAY more to be thankful of but right now, those are the most important for me 🙂
What are you thankful for this year?

Love Always,

J

Trunk or Treat!!!!

29 Oct

Emma had her first trick or treating event this year. My mother-in-law’s church was holding an event where they decorate the trunks of their cars and pass out candy to the little ones. Since it’s yucky with the storm coming they decided to hold it inside and go room to room instead. We practiced Emma saying “Trick or Treat”, holding out her bag, and saying thank you after. She caught on real fast!!

Emma picked out her fairy costume this year –  halfway through trick or treating she then decided she was a butterfly 😛

For the most part Emma was having a blast – she loved picking up candy from the doors that weren’t scary. If it was a scary looking door she’d run up to me with her arms in the air saying, “I too scared, I too scared, up mommy!”

Then we got to Dodo and Nana’s door and we were happy as can be!

I love that little smile!

She also enjoyed picking out which candy she wanted next. I let her have two choices and she shared with the rest of us 😉

I think this was the perfect way to get her familiar with trick or treating without being too scary and since she caught on so fast I’m even considering taking her out a little on Wednesday. Let the Halloween traditions begin!!

What kind of family traditions do you do for Halloween?

Thanks for stopping by!

Love Always,

J

Magazine Review: Woman’s Day Specials – Halloween Celebrations

18 Sep

Who’s ready for Halloween magazines? I AM! This week I’m reviewing Woman’s Day Specials Halloween Celebrations!! This is your all around get ready for the season kind of magazines that includes, crafts, home decor, food, and some extra goodies as well. I can’t imagine you flipping through this magazine and not wanting to attempt something in this magazine – even if you hate Halloween – some of these things are worth a look!

Each page is filled with multiple ideas and and things you can try to create on your own but you can also purchase! One of my favorite things about this magazine is it tells you where they found the item, how much it is, and the website for it! Another plus – they showcase Etsy shops 🙂 I love supporting fellow etsians.

Their how-to’s are easy to read and follow and they also have extra instructions and patterns in the back! I’d say this magazine is filled with enough goodies to keep you busy up until Halloween this year 🙂 I already have a list of things I’d love to try as well as a few shops I’ll be buying from. Since this magazine isn’t completely about crafting I deducted a point for ideas & inspirations since part of it is food and that might not interest some as well as a point off for exciting pictures and fun reads because there’s less articles and more shopping.

Halloween Celebrations comes . Each magazine is $5.99 which is a fantastic deal to me. The deal for a subscription is $14.99 for two years or 1 year for $7.99. There are $10 issues a year. You can’t ask for a better deal than that!!!!

  • 4 points for ideas & inspiration
  • 5 points for easy how to and guide steps
  • 4 points for exciting pictures & fun reads
  • 5 points for the amount of issues
  • 5 points for price (5.99 for one issue)

I give this magazine 4.5 out 5 stars which I think is my highest one yet!

Thanks for stopping by!

Love Always,

J

A Little Crazy, A Lot New!

11 Apr

I am back from vacation! ❤ I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend and is ready for some fun. After spending a weekend in my hometown I could not be any more excited about the craft show coming up. Sometimes a little trip is all you need to spark up some new ideas and get crafty!

Lately I’ve been in a making mood. From my last post you can see I was working on a teddy bear 😀 It’s not quite finished yet but now that I’ve gotten a majority of it done – I’m really feeling like I can make pretty much anything now. Bring on those crazy patterns – I’m ready to tackle them!

I’ve also been in a making mood when it comes to food. If you didn’t already know – I’m not the best cook in the house 😉 My first attempts usually aren’t my best and I tend to get measurements mixed up often 😛 I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to start a new recipe over because I mix up Tablespoon and Teaspoon. It’s depressing. But after a little trial and error I usually get it right. Well, I went a little crazy and picked out a few  new recipes and bought all the ingredients. I’m ready to get a little crazy in the kitchen!!

My second favorite thing about Easter this year is baskets 😀 I love baskets!! But this year I have a new twist for them. I’ll be using them to make pre-made baby gift sets to sell at the craft show. So thank you everyone who gave Emma baskets this year, and thank you Easter sales for making baskets el cheapo!

So here’s to new ideas, new patterns, new recipes, and getting a little crazy! I hope everyone’s ready to enjoy these next few weeks with me 😀

Thanks for stopping by!

Love Always,

J

P.S. Thank you google images for the lovely pictures :P

What got you interested in crafting?

I took a 3 day class learning to make handwoven baskets and I was hooked, that was over 25 years ago. I did craft fairs and art shows with my baskets. From there I went to doing flowers for parties, weddings and events. I have always enjoyed making wreaths the most. There are endless ideas for displaying and decorating with them.

What has been your favorite project to make and why?

By far the wreaths where I am asked to create from my customer’s souvenirs or “memories”. I love creating a one of a kind wreath from items that customers send me. More than anything, I am humbled that they trust me to handle their memories. For instance, this year Chirstmas (2011) a lady asked me to create a wreath for her to hang at Christmas. Her mother passed away the previous Christmas and had a wonderful angel ornament collection. She sent me 3 beautiful vintage angel ornaments from her mother’s collection. It truly was a moving experience to touch these, to be trusted to take care of them and to be given free creative design of the wreath.

After that I enjoy making the Disney wreaths. They are alot of fun. I love it when customer’s send me their Disney trip items to make a wreath. Their Mickey Hat, pressed penny, picture of them with their favorite character, confetti from the parade, popped balloon, ticket to get into the park, airline ticket, room key, it is like opening a present!

What’s the secret behind your etsy name?

The reason I choose this name, is that I use to be a wedding planner. Everyone tells me that I have a sparkling personality and it goes with my sparkle eyeliner. The Vienna comes from the town I live in. When I was trying to think of a name for my wedding planning business, I was stumped. I talked to my sister and without missing a beat, she said Vienna Sparkle. I liked the name and it is easy to remember. The city of Vienna is known for their exceptional theater, opera, classical music and fine arts.

If you could open up a shop in your town what would you call it and what would it be like?

Oh wow, that is hard. My mind is swirling with ideas! Past, Present and Themed Wreaths, Sparkle and Color Wreaths. My shop would be filled with alot of color and sparkle! I love those two elements. Every inch of wall would be covered with wreaths of all colors, designs and sparkle. It would be a warm and inviting environment. Someplace that would set a spark inside the person looking at them.

What is the most challenging thing you have made?

I made a Christmas Wreath that was over 4 feet in diameter. It was hung over a huge fireplace mantle. I had to make the wreath as light as possible and yet it had to be able to be used for years to come. It was too large to ship (expense wise), so I delivered the wreath in person. It was a 13 hour round trip delivery.

What are some of your goals you hope to achieve within the next year?

I want to make more treasured memory wreaths for people. I feel so fulfilled when they write me and tell me that the wreath was more than they could imagine. I want increase the inventory in my store. More than anything I want people to know who I am, what I can do and that they have a way to preserve/display their memories in different way.

What inspires you to be crafty?

My customers! They are so grateful and are more impressed with their wreath in person. I feel so good, when I gave my customers more than they envisioned.

What is your best quality when it comes to your crafts?

My detail. My design. My use of color and how I balance those colors. I treat each wreath as if it were to be hung in my home and make sure that nothing is overlooked.

If you could have one thing to help your store what would it be?

A robot that could take my pictures, edit them, post my descriptions, do my tags and pricing! I want to keep making wreaths non-stop.
