Make Your Needs Into Wants

16 Aug

It’s amazing what the simplest thing a child can say to change your perspective.

I’ve always been a dreamer. Someone who is looking ahead at her future trying to grasp what other’s deem impossible. Most often than not, those dreams consist of a stress free lifestyle centered around my family. More often than not, the reality is that I am working so hard I have to balance work, life, and family. I feel like this is something that most suffer from.

Make your needs into wants

Emma said to me the other day “You never want to play with me.”

That hit me hard. It’s not that I don’t want to play with her at all but in her mind that’s what she sees. It’s been a great summer but it’s also been the first summer she’s ever had following her first year of school. We spent a majority of the summer entertained by activities and vacation and most of that came to a halt this past month due to preparation for school! This was also the first summer she had to share me with Payton.

My initial response was, “I want to play with you, but I have to get some work done hun.”

It wasn’t later that I realized to her there aren’t have to’s. If you aren’t playing with me and you are doing something else you are doing it because you want to do that more. It’s clear as day to them in their mind.

If you want to know what we did, you can read my last post:

Putting It Down

I’m not saying everyone can do what we did and just put technology down for a few days. I’m not suggesting that we give everything up for our kids. I do suggest we start doing what we want to do more often that what we feel like we have to do.

It’s amazing how much your perspective can change when you change one simple word. I challenge you all to change all of your “have to’s” to “want to’s” for one day and see how it effects your mood and your decisions.

How many things do you do on a daily basis that you say you have to do that really you just want to do. Do you feel less stressed and overwhelmed when you say want to instead of have to?

Or maybe you really feel like you have to do them but when you change it to want to – you realize that it’s not that important to you after all. Is there a way you can take those have to’s out of your life? Why can’t we all strive to do what we want to do and have success doing it?

Just a random thought for you today. I hope you enjoyed it! If so, please let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear if anyone successfully implements this in their daily routine.

It’s Time to Change Your Life

11 Aug

If you resonated with the title of this blog post you’ve probably been struggling with who you are. You’ve been fighting with yourself and maybe others to find that balance with who they want you to be and who you want to be. This is something that weighs on my heart specifically because I go through this all the time!

Make The Change

It’s time to make a change, and trust me, it is well worth your TIME investing in this because it’s most likely way overdue. Living your life for what other people, or in this case we’ll say the world, wants you to be can kill you. You might not literally die but everything inside of you will. Each of us has something unique, something amazing, something that is only us inside and each time we do something just to please the world we take that piece of us and step on it like it’s a bug not worth being alive.

You might not realize you are killing your soul, but I bet you can feel that weight that it puts on your heart and your shoulders. It’s that feeling of doubt when you do what you love, that it won’t be good enough, or that it’s not the “right” thing to do. It’s that feeling of emptiness when you can’t seem to find the joy you once had.

It’s time to make a change. This isn’t going to be easy. This isn’t going to be fun. The outcome will be worth more than all the struggle it takes to get there and once you do get there, getting back there is much easier.

Here are a few steps I suggest you take in changing your life. There are only four to get you started but they are enough to make an impact:

Stop comparing yourself to others.

The absolute worst thing we can do is listen to our inner self that’s saying we aren’t good enough or there’s someone who is better at this than I am. Chances are you are right, If you are just now doing what you love – you have not mastered it! It is going to take time, dedication, hard work, and a little elbow grease to become what your inner self deems good enough. So stop looking outward for success, look inward.

Start paying attention to what you do on a daily basis.

What is it that you are doing every day that is crushing your soul? What is it that you do every day that shows signs of bringing you joy? Why aren’t you doing that more? What’s stopping you from doing joyful things? How can you create a positive space for this joy to grow? Ask questions, dig deep, and really think about what brings you joy. Do you need to know the answers to these questions right away? No. But it’s time to start asking them. Get your brain wired to think about your actions before you do them!

Find positive motivators and inspirations in your life.

If you aren’t motivated to change it’s not going to happen. Even though you are miserable there is a comfort in knowing the outcome of your task even if it’s a failure. Find things that create a spark in you to change that comfort into drive for something new. Listen to that podcast that tells you it’s okay to fail – get back up and try again! Look at those pinterest boards full of positive motivational quotes, or turn on some happy music. It’s time to think positive.

Work on what you love.

Work on you. Don’t give up on this process. Don’t give into those negative comments that are happening in your head. There is so much to look forward to in this life and there isn’t enough time to let it waste. Change your life now. Reign that positive energy and motivation into what brings you joy. Spending time focusing on your craft that brings you joy, will change your life in a larger way than you could ever imagine.

There is so much more to changing your life but I hope this little glimpse of how it can be done inspires you to move forward and change your outcome because I don’t wish those guilty, heavy, and painful feelings on even my worst of enemies. Who’s with me on making a change? Let’s all be better versions of ourselves.

Thank you google images for the wonderful pictures above.

Keeping Things Busy!

21 Jul

I thought I’d have a little trouble keeping Emma busy and entertained with limited energy but that doesn’t seem to be the case!

This amazing little girl has been making her own projects left and right, creating her own “work” to do while I’m working and having a blast being an inventor!

We also got her started on ABC mouse so she has something like Daddy does and gets some computer learning time. I can already see the difference in her reading and telling me some of the new things she’s learning when she finishes.

I will say the best thing this summer has been boxes. She has had a blast turning them into trains, rocket ships, caves, and so much more. I am so thankful for such a sweet little girl and so proud of her for finding things to entertain herself instead of just “being bored” all time!

Getting Down and Dirty

23 Jan

Alright this post is not going to be the typical post. I have a few things on my mind that I felt like sharing because I know I can’t be the only one that feels this way!

I love new beginnings. I love the feeling of starting something that could make a huge difference in my families lives. There’s something about the way a new adventure in life can really spark a sense of hope in someone.

I guess you could say I’m a new beginnings junky! When I notice that I’m getting in a rut of things I get frustrated, bummed, and get antsy.

Antsy is where the magic happens. I can’t stop searching for that perfect thing even though I have no idea what I’m looking for somehow inspiration always finds me! I find that next new thing and I go nuts researching it until I feel ready.

When I reach that moment I tend to search and destroy. Which for me means rearrange, clean and organize every single thing I can think of that might in any way have any slight thing to do with my new inspiration. Okay some of them don’t but it’s super fun!

Then I make a notebook full of lists and goals and preparations and steps to succeed.

I spend a few weeks trucking along with this wonderful, why didn’t I think of this earlier?! mood. Then I get stuck in a rut and we start back at square one.

I am officially noting to everyone that this is my new problem. Who knows, maybe one of these days my next new thing will actually pan out and satisfy my crazy need for new happenings in my life!

Does anyone else feel the same way? What do you do about it?

How to Make a Pencil Case

With the new school year nearly upon us in Australia, I am making up a few easy zipperedpatchwork pencil cases. This is a great scrap buster project. The little zippered pouches can be used for all manner of things. Mine was sized to fit approx 6 pens; or a small pack of tissues; or a small notebook and pen; or a few cosmetics.

Here’s what you’ve missed!

15 Mar

Sorry I have been MIA – this gorgeous weather has me cleaning and spending most of my time outdoors as well as some other reasons you’ll see below. There are so many new things happening around here that I can’t wait to talk about but since I don’t want to spoil it all – I’m just going to show you a few things that we’ve been doing (without spoils). Then when I get my schedule back in tact I’ll share all the goodies!

Here’s a few things you might have missed:

I attempted my first etching – which is obvious because it’s all uneven but who cares!!!!!!! I am so proud of me 😀 Once I get stuck in the house again I’ll be removing labels off of wine bottles like its nobodys business!

Since Brian and I have both been successfully working and doing our best at not spending any money unless it’s bills, gas, groceries, or necessities – we spoiled ourselves a little! We each bought a few things for ourselves and we bought these for Emma! How cute? She’s been wearing them almost all week since it’s been so nice outside and she likes to proudly say these are Emma’s NEW shoes!

Here is another reason I haven’t had ANY time to update/work on my etsy page & blog. Someone decided that napping is no fun and they don’t want to do it any more. Therefore my two hours of work time during nap time have turned into scramble around with my head cut off time because I have no idea how to function without Emma having a nap. Apparently neither does Emma because here she is passed out on the couch an hour before bedtime. She decided to put herself to bed here – lol.

Our first nice weather accomplishment! I took an entire day to get the back patio set up, organized, toys cleaned, and make it Emma and baby friendly! It took FOREVER. But Emma decided to accomplish something as well – she climbed up the slide and went down all by herself! For the past year – all she would do is climb up and scream every time you tried to help her slide down. HOORAYY  she’s becoming so independent 😉

If you hadn’t noticed the same squinting face above – it’s Emma’s new way to say CHEESE to the camera. Silly girl. This was a Mommy-Daughter day out that involved so many errands that I had completely no intention of getting them all done. Since someone was a complete angel we got ALL except one of the errands completed (and that wasn’t her fault or mine!) so we got a milkshake for a treat – that Emma kept calling a cake lol.

So it’s not that I don’t love you. I haven’t posted because I’ve had my hands a little full these days! Either someone will start getting Quiet Alone Time or Nap Time happening soon or I’m going to have to find 2 different hours to get some work done 😉

Thanks for stopping by!

Love you all and hope to be back to chat soon!

Jennifer
