Growing up is fun!

20 Jun

Not too long ago my little girl got a big girl bed! She was super excited and said, “Mom watch me!!” as she climbed in and out all on her own. One of her favorite things about her new big girl bed is that Mommy can now lay beside her and read her bedtime stories. Another favorite, is that she can get out of bed after we closet the door and read all the books in her bookshelf by herself!

So far we haven’t had too much trouble with her not sleeping. Prior to taking the crib apart she would sing and read herself to sleep almost every night so it’s not that big of a change for her. What do I love about it? I love that she can play in her room in the morning when I’m not completely awake yet, I like that she still sings herself to sleep and I love listening to it, and I love that she likes to play in there even when it’s not bed time!

Other things going on around here? I’m finally getting my birthday cabinet cleaned up and moved to my studio so I can use it there. I need storage there so much more than I do here and I’m going to save up my pennies and buy another one for our place 🙂

I’m also getting my budgeting spreadsheet together so I can show you all how I do my own stress free budgeting! It’s made money less of an issue in our house and more of something we can just rely on. Along with the spreadsheet and my explanation on how to use it, I am also working on my couponing! That extra shelf I’m going to save up and buy is also going to be great storage for the items I’ll be stocking up on at the grocery store.

If anyone is interested on how I do my couponing (not the traditional way but still saves money) I’d be more than glad to do a post about that as well!

So who said it was no fun growing up? NOT ME!!

Music isn’t my only Therapy <3

8 May

Hello There!

What a crazy week it has been over here and it’s only Tuesday night! I spent most of Monday playing with three gorgeous girls. Child care is like a constant eye opener for me. I love watching Emma play on her own but watching her play with other kids is a whole different ball game! It’s amazing how smart, friendly, and funny little ones are. Each day I get to watch them grow up is just another reminder to me that life goes by so fast and to enjoy every little second that I can.

Emma has been especially amazing these past few days and it’s hard to resist the urge to spoil her rotten! Sure she likes to pick on me and get my nerves but so does everyone else 😉 haha. It’s like she’s finally understanding me and how I function now. We are finally getting into a comfortable routine for both of us and enjoying the transitions that the days bring.

Today my Mother-In-Law took Emma to visit family and she couldn’t have been any more excited! Car trips have become more of an adventure that’s fun and exciting rather than boring and painful 😛 She loves visiting people too and sharing all her wonderful news of all her new things and what she has figured out the past few days.

We got her all dressed up in her new dress which she called her princess dress. She told me that I was beautiful (partially because I had just told her she was) and said Thank You Very Much Mommy – You Are Da Best once I got her all packed up and ready.

It’s funny because as a busy parent working from home on two different jobs, blogging, and trying to find a balance between it all – I always say if only I had more time. Today I had the entire day to get things done and I did, but the thing I did the most was miss my little girl. I wondered how she was and what she was doing. If she remembered to say please and thank you. If she ate her lunch well and picked up her toys.

Before I had this little princess in my life – I used to use music to calm me down and make me realize what was important in life. Sometimes it was the beat of the music, sometimes the lyrics fit my mood perfectly, but most of the time it was that reminder that everyone else was going through the same things I was so there wasn’t any point in worrying so much.

These days it’s my little girl reminding me that worrying gets you no where. That the little things in life are the best. That all it takes to fix a little boo boo is a hug and kisses, then it’s time to get up and keep playing because no matter what happens – life’s too short to worry about things that bring us down.

I love my little therapist.

Tuesday Tutorial: Pencil Case!

How to Make a Pencil Case

With the new school year nearly upon us in Australia, I am making up a few easy zipperedpatchwork pencil cases. This is a great scrap buster project. The little zippered pouches can be used for all manner of things. Mine was sized to fit approx 6 pens; or a small pack of tissues; or a small notebook and pen; or a few cosmetics.

Play Space Step One Complete!

22 Mar

I told you this would happen fast 😉

For those of you who haven’t read my blog I wrote a post the other day here: Play Space Makeover about what I was hoping to do with Emma’s play space area.

Well it only took a day and I already have the easy half of it complete! Check it out:

I bought the cabinet and bins last night and stayed up late to set it up! I love the way it looks and I’m happy about the height of it. Emma played with it this morning and she is at perfect viewing and reaching height of the books. Of course they are all over the floor right now but I’ll try not to complain about that 😉

Something I’m super excited about that I did not expect is that she pulls out the bin halfway, pulls out the toy she wants, and pushes it back. I thought for sure she’d pull the whole bin out and dump the entire thing on the floor! This may just make our place a little cleaner. The next step I want to do for the bins is to put white vinyl pictures of the items that are in the boxes on the outside so Emma will learn where things belong and we can start a clean up routine!

The toy chest in this next picture is not going to be there but I did it more for a visual:

We are going to be building a little desk right there. We’ll be using white shelving board to create a custom desk that will fit along the length of the wall with a little side table at the end closest to the chair. I think I’m going to be able to fit a few of the floor toys (like the doll house in the bottom right corner) under the desk so that it’s not taking up extra floor space but it’s still accessible.

Thanks to my dad for being an amazing custom building fiend, he’s teaching me what I need to know about building custom pieces. We bought some foamboard and we are going to cut a template out to see what it will look like when we finish! As soon as we get that completed I’ll do another post so you can see it all coming together and then we’ll be buying the materials and getting it ready. While I’m waiting on that step I’ve been keeping my eyes out for little desk chairs that I can fix up like this I found on Craigslist:

The one she is selling is pink so I might paint it back to white but we’ll see 😀

What do you think of the cabinet and bins? Have you thought of any cool ways to store big floor toys? I’d love to hear what you think!

Play Space Makeover!

21 Mar

Hey everyone! Since I’m having trouble getting anything done around here I thought I’d let you in on my brainstorming projects. Today I’m going to show you what I have planned for Emma’s Play Space. Just so you know, her place space is a little 4×4 area in our living room since we have a small basement apartment. This is what it looks like now:

She’s crammed into this little corner that I tried to make as accessible as possible to her. She still has a huge amount of floor space that she can pull out all her toys and play with but what I’m hoping to do in this process is create an organized area that’s easier to get to and the possibility of her playing in that area as well!

In this picture you can see that she’s also spread out in front of our TV area. Since she has some big floor toys it’s hard to keep them all in one little area so I’ll be working on figuring out a solution for this as well!

Here is her bedroom play area. She spends as much time in here as she does out in the living room so I’m going to try to divide up the toys into what fits better where 😉

So what I have planned is going to be a big makeover! We are going to be purchasing this in white (if you hadn’t noticed I like clean white furniture):

I’m going to be buying these or something similar to these to put inside the cubbies:

and on the cubbies I am going to stick a vinyl decal in the shape of the toy that goes in that bucket – like this but probably in white:

So that is the beginning of my organizing process. I want to get as many toys off the floor as I can and make it so it’s easier for her to put them away and find them again. With the toy bin it makes it super easy to clean, but impossible to find all the right toys. Now that Emma is old enough I’m really excited about teaching her how to put her toys away in a defined area!

Okay so her little corner consists of two walls. The cubbie cabinet will be on one wall and on the other wall I want to build a simple small desk. Similar to this picture but without the cubbies on top or bottom.

Then right off the end of that table attached to it, I want to build a little triangle side table so I can put her tan chair next to it facing at a better angle to the TV (yes she likes TV and yes I let her watch it – don’t yell at me 😛 haha)

If you aren’t one of those people who can easily picture something I’m super sorry! Good news about this project is that it will be starting up soon so you’ll get to see it all happening in no time!

What do you think about my makeover ideas? Do you have suggestions for those big floor toys?

Thanks for stopping by!

Here’s what you’ve missed!

15 Mar

Sorry I have been MIA – this gorgeous weather has me cleaning and spending most of my time outdoors as well as some other reasons you’ll see below. There are so many new things happening around here that I can’t wait to talk about but since I don’t want to spoil it all – I’m just going to show you a few things that we’ve been doing (without spoils). Then when I get my schedule back in tact I’ll share all the goodies!

Here’s a few things you might have missed:

I attempted my first etching – which is obvious because it’s all uneven but who cares!!!!!!! I am so proud of me 😀 Once I get stuck in the house again I’ll be removing labels off of wine bottles like its nobodys business!

Since Brian and I have both been successfully working and doing our best at not spending any money unless it’s bills, gas, groceries, or necessities – we spoiled ourselves a little! We each bought a few things for ourselves and we bought these for Emma! How cute? She’s been wearing them almost all week since it’s been so nice outside and she likes to proudly say these are Emma’s NEW shoes!

Here is another reason I haven’t had ANY time to update/work on my etsy page & blog. Someone decided that napping is no fun and they don’t want to do it any more. Therefore my two hours of work time during nap time have turned into scramble around with my head cut off time because I have no idea how to function without Emma having a nap. Apparently neither does Emma because here she is passed out on the couch an hour before bedtime. She decided to put herself to bed here – lol.

Our first nice weather accomplishment! I took an entire day to get the back patio set up, organized, toys cleaned, and make it Emma and baby friendly! It took FOREVER. But Emma decided to accomplish something as well – she climbed up the slide and went down all by herself! For the past year – all she would do is climb up and scream every time you tried to help her slide down. HOORAYY  she’s becoming so independent 😉

If you hadn’t noticed the same squinting face above – it’s Emma’s new way to say CHEESE to the camera. Silly girl. This was a Mommy-Daughter day out that involved so many errands that I had completely no intention of getting them all done. Since someone was a complete angel we got ALL except one of the errands completed (and that wasn’t her fault or mine!) so we got a milkshake for a treat – that Emma kept calling a cake lol.

So it’s not that I don’t love you. I haven’t posted because I’ve had my hands a little full these days! Either someone will start getting Quiet Alone Time or Nap Time happening soon or I’m going to have to find 2 different hours to get some work done 😉

Thanks for stopping by!

Love you all and hope to be back to chat soon!

Jennifer
