Week One of January 2016

2 Jan

Every year we make new goals and aspirations. Every year we are determined to make it the best year yet! Every year we challenge ourselves to create the life we have always wanted to live.

This year I am hoping for some change for my whole family. I intend to keep moving forward to a better life for my family because they are pretty darn cool and let’s be honest, I NEED TO GET MOVING!

This week is the start of where I am sharing my adventures in improving my family’s lives. To get me pumped up and excited here are a few things I have been listening to / doing / reading / etc:

Pandora Station: Today’s Adult Hits

It’s a fun mix of some of the most popular music that makes you want to get up and dance! Why it’s labeled adult hits? I have no idea because I sure has heck don’t feel like an adult ūüėČ most days that is. What motivated me to click the station? Meghan Trainor was on the front cover.

Podcasts: Raise Your Hand and Say Yes

You have good taste. Trust it.

Specifically Tara Swiger on Enthusiasm which was all about having confidence and moving forward even if it doesn’t immediately feel successful. It encourages learning by trial and error which I love, and gave me a positive outlook on where I want to move forward.

Essential Oils: Diffusing Oils

I am waking up to an amazing diffuser every morning that is putting the sweet citrus scent of Cheer¬†into my life. It’s just the pick me up I need in the cold weather when I wish I was on a hot beach soaking up the rays. It’s also giving me that extra boost I need to push through the have-to do list to and move on to the can’t-wait-to-do-this!!!! list.

What I’m Doing: Keeping Track of it all!

2016 daily goal tracker at elisejoy.com

This one came from the lovely podcast above, but it’s a checklist I love. Why? Maybe because it has bubble numbers that I can fill in which is kind of weird since those dreaded bubble tests haunt me from high school! Coloring something in? COUNT ME IN! But in all seriousness, I’m also keeping a list on the back of it with what I did to make me see how cool I really end up being this year ūüėČ ūüėČ I hope..

So what exactly do I mean but moving forward this year? I want more craft time with Emma, I want more house projects with my hubby, I want to take more pictures of the girls, I want to share all these moments so I don’t forget them. I want to each day, feel like I am taking a step forward for a better life for them.

It’s Time to Change Your Life

11 Aug

If you resonated with the title of this blog post you’ve probably been struggling with who you are. You’ve been fighting with yourself and maybe others to find that balance with who they want you to be and who you want to be. This is something that weighs on my heart specifically because I go through this all the time!

Make The Change

It’s time to make a change, and trust me, it is well worth your TIME investing in this because it’s most likely way overdue. Living your life for what other people, or in this case we’ll say the world, wants you to be can kill you. You might not literally die but everything inside of you will. Each of us has something unique, something amazing, something that is only us inside and each time we do something just to please the world we take that piece of us and step on it like it’s a bug not worth being alive.

You might not realize you are killing your soul, but I bet you can feel that weight that it puts on your heart and your shoulders. It’s that feeling of doubt when you do what you love, that it won’t be good enough, or that it’s not the “right” thing to do. It’s that feeling of emptiness when you can’t seem to find the joy you once had.

It’s time to make a change. This isn’t going to be easy. This isn’t going to be fun. The outcome will be worth more than all the struggle it takes to get there and once you do get there, getting back there is much easier.

Here are a few steps I suggest you take in changing your life. There are only four to get you started but they are enough to make an impact:

Stop comparing yourself to others.

The absolute worst thing we can do is listen to our inner self that’s saying we aren’t good enough or there’s someone who is better at this than I am. Chances are you are right, If you are just now doing what you love – you have not mastered it! It is going to take time, dedication, hard work, and a little elbow grease to become what your inner self deems good enough. So stop looking outward for success, look inward.

Start paying attention to what you do on a daily basis.

What is it that you are doing every day that is crushing your soul? What is it that you do every day that shows signs of bringing you joy? Why aren’t you doing that more? What’s stopping you from doing joyful things? How can you create a positive space for this joy to grow? Ask questions, dig deep, and really think about what brings you joy. Do you need to know the answers to these questions right away? No. But it’s time to start asking them. Get your brain wired to think about your actions before you do them!

Find positive motivators and inspirations in your life.

If you aren’t motivated to change it’s not going to happen. Even though you are miserable there is a comfort in knowing the outcome of your task even if it’s a failure. Find things that create a spark in you to change that comfort into drive for something new. Listen to that podcast that tells you it’s okay to fail – get back up and try again! Look at those pinterest boards full of positive motivational quotes, or turn on some happy music. It’s time to think positive.

Work on what you love.

Work on you. Don’t give up on this process. Don’t give into those negative comments that are happening in your head. There is so much to look forward to in this life and there isn’t enough time to let it waste. Change your life now. Reign that positive energy and motivation into what brings you joy. Spending time focusing on your craft that brings you joy, will change your life in a larger way than you could ever imagine.

There is so much more to changing your life but I hope this little glimpse of how it can be done inspires you to move forward and change your outcome because I don’t wish those guilty, heavy, and painful feelings on even my worst of enemies. Who’s with me on making a change? Let’s all be better versions of ourselves.

#girlboss Book Review

23 Jan

I put this book on my wishlist for Christmas and was ECSTATIC when I got it! For a while I have been searching for a book that is uplifting, motivating, funny, interesting, and geared towards running your own business. I wasn’t looking for self help, tips & tricks, or guidelines. I wanted something easy and fun to read. I had heard about this book through the grapevine, read the summary, and immediately got excited. It was the one I had been searching for.

1.18.15-6

For those of you who have sensitive ears, be forewarned it does have some language in it. But if you put all that aside you’ll see this book is about taking a leap of faith, changing your point of view on what work should be, and encouraging you to do what you love.

It’s about picking yourself up off the floor, realizing you can do it on your own, and when it’s time – ask for help. This book is what got me back on my feet. I am a SUPER slow reader. I tend to read one or two books a year because, let’s face it, it’s hard to find time to read! I used to love reading back when I didn’t have lists upon lists of things to do! I read this book in two days. TWO DAYS! That’s ridiculous for me considering it takes months and maybe even a year for me to get through a book!

Who should read this?

1. Someone who is looking for a change in their life.

2. Someone who doesn’t want a traditional job.

3. Someone who could use some motivation.

4. Someone who takes interest in the way other’s live their lives.

5. Anyone who enjoys an easy fun read.

I hope you’ll give this book a chance and tell me what you think of it below!

Thoughtful Thursday: How to Step Up Your Game!

16 Feb

These past few days I’ve been daydreaming about what it would be like to go full-time with my business. I have been reading articles on etsy and WordPress with tips and hints and then I came across a new website I’ve never seen before! It’s about this man who gave up his job moved across the world and started two business!

I was reading his posts about tips on creating a less stressful life and also about setting yourself up on creating your own business. If you read Freshly Pressed you may know who I am talking about! There was something so intriguing about what he had to say that I ended up reading his entire blog in one sitting!! Now I know this is far from my usual posts about cleaning organizing and crafting but it’s been something I’ve been seriously interested for a while and this might just be the right time for me to reorganize my priorities and really make an opportunity for me!

So today I’m going to do a post about stepping up your game! This might not work for everyone but these are the steps I’ll be taking for the next few weeks to see if I’m headed in the right direction.

1. Create an easy work environment

¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†This has been something I’ve been continually working on. Being a mother to a young child it’s important to have my own area that’s uncluttered and easy to pick things up and put them down without worrying about it. Also having a very small area to call my own there are some things that just can’t be left out (for example: the ironing board – there’s just no room for it). These next few weeks I’m going to finish up my area to make it the most accessible to my lifestyle and still be a great place to get work done.

2.  Get all of the daily chores done within the first hours of the day.

Since I haven’t been doing my daily lists anymore I’ve gotten in the habit if doing a few chores each day without thinking about them. Getting all of this done in the morning will leave me with plenty of time the rest of the day to do other things like concentrate on getting this business up and running!

3. Use time wisely

¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† I know I’m not the only person that spends a little too much time on the computer, gets distracted by TV, or something else around the house that doesn’t necessary need that much attention! For the next few weeks I’ll be organizing my time by importance. First thing on my list is getting my inventory up and completing projects, then listing, then working on my storefront. That means working on the computer is the last thing on my list – which in the long run I think will benefit the amount of time I waste since I’ll be doing it last.

4. Keep motivation up!

The worst thing that happens to me when I have the time to get things done is being in a not so motivated mood. I did a post last Thursday about this called Bad Day Go Away! Keeping a positive attitude is a serious must do and for those procrastinators like me out there Рtricking yourself into getting it done instead of putting it off is something that is necessary in order to boost your mood. Procrastinators may be the worst when it comes to getting things done but when they do accomplish something they get this enormous boost of self-pride so motivating yourself and getting the littlest things done will create that boost to keep you going!

5. Put yourself first

This is something that I am TERRIBLE at. The blog I was mentioning about said to learn to say No more. He said he was easily wrapped into doing things he didn’t want to do just because he had a hard time saying no and that is clearly a huge problem of mine. Instead of immediately saying yes to something – check your calendar and make sure you are giving yourself enough time to accomplish all your goals. Owning your own business isn’t easy and it’s definitely not going to happen if you let other people take your time away. Now I’m not telling you to say no to everything. You do need some down time and to have fun but don’t let someone take up your entire Sunday when you know that’s the only day of the week you have time to dive into your big projects.

6. Keep track of your progress more than your need to-dos

¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† This is a great motivational booster as well as helpful when it comes to keeping track of what you have already done is like a reminder of how far you have gotten. It is important to know what you’d like to get done in order to stay on track but don’t concentrate on that as much as what you have accomplished. A long to do list only leads to stress and anxiety!

7. Take care of you

¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†Getting enough sleep, eating right, and taking care of your body is one of the most important things of all. If you aren’t doing these three things there is no way you can accomplish any of the above without struggle! Keeping a set schedule of going to sleep and waking up will help your body adjust properly and be prepared for whats ahead. Even if you are in the middle of working on something it’s important to put it down and eat at an appropriate time. Food keeps the body going and if you aren’t taking care of those needs it’s going to make it hard to work¬†efficiently.

These seven tips are going to be my guidelines for the next few weeks and I’ll be letting you know how they are working and if I’d change any of these! Feel free to share tips that help you get through the day and accomplish your goals.

Thanks for stopping by!
Love Always,

Laundry Day

25 Jan

Today is laundry day. It’s also take care of sick baby day. I don’t know where my motivation has gone but I am starting to think it’s completely out the window! It’s day four of accomplishing nothing besides finishing my fifth skane on T’s blanket. It’s day four of feeling like all I want to do is sit on the couch and not move a muscle. I hope I am not getting sick too!

Maybe I should turn on some Taylor Swift and drink some hot chocolate! Maybe my mom wouldn’t mind babysitting E for a little so I could get some chores done.. maybe I should get my butt off this computer and take some Tylenol ūüėõ

Hopefully my next blog is a little more motivational!

Love Always,

J
