Week One of January 2016

2 Jan

Every year we make new goals and aspirations. Every year we are determined to make it the best year yet! Every year we challenge ourselves to create the life we have always wanted to live.

This year I am hoping for some change for my whole family. I intend to keep moving forward to a better life for my family because they are pretty darn cool and let’s be honest, I NEED TO GET MOVING!

This week is the start of where I am sharing my adventures in improving my family’s lives. To get me pumped up and excited here are a few things I have been listening to / doing / reading / etc:

Pandora Station: Today’s Adult Hits

It’s a fun mix of some of the most popular music that makes you want to get up and dance! Why it’s labeled adult hits? I have no idea because I sure has heck don’t feel like an adult πŸ˜‰ most days that is. What motivated me to click the station? Meghan Trainor was on the front cover.

Podcasts: Raise Your Hand and Say Yes

You have good taste. Trust it.

Specifically Tara Swiger on Enthusiasm which was all about having confidence and moving forward even if it doesn’t immediately feel successful. It encourages learning by trial and error which I love, and gave me a positive outlook on where I want to move forward.

Essential Oils: Diffusing Oils

I am waking up to an amazing diffuser every morning that is putting the sweet citrus scent of CheerΒ into my life. It’s just the pick me up I need in the cold weather when I wish I was on a hot beach soaking up the rays. It’s also giving me that extra boost I need to push through the have-to do list to and move on to the can’t-wait-to-do-this!!!! list.

What I’m Doing: Keeping Track of it all!

2016 daily goal tracker at elisejoy.com

This one came from the lovely podcast above, but it’s a checklist I love. Why? Maybe because it has bubble numbers that I can fill in which is kind of weird since those dreaded bubble tests haunt me from high school! Coloring something in? COUNT ME IN! But in all seriousness, I’m also keeping a list on the back of it with what I did to make me see how cool I really end up being this year πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ I hope..

So what exactly do I mean but moving forward this year? I want more craft time with Emma, I want more house projects with my hubby, I want to take more pictures of the girls, I want to share all these moments so I don’t forget them. I want to each day, feel like I am taking a step forward for a better life for them.

My Eyes Filled with Tears

25 Jan

Although I am an emotional person, I am not one that cries in public often. I am very good at hording all my feelings inside to everyone but those close to me. Even those close to me sometimes I am able to bottle it up and move on.

There are a few moments that I haven’t been able to control my tears and one of those moments was last night! While I crochet, I tend to pull up movies on Netflix to give my eyes and ears something to do while I mindlessly hook away at my scarves. If I don’t have something to keep me busy I get bored pretty easily!

Each time I watch a movie, I rate and it and then it gives me some things it suggests for me. Well I found a suggestion and went with it. The movie is called Listen to Your Heart.

If you are a fan of the The Notebook you will eat this movie up like I did! The story line is addicting and the soundtrack keeps your heart moving with it. This movie is about a young composer/singer who has an amazing look on life. He is such a positive person and cares for others around him in a way that we should all do more often.

A beautiful girl walks into his work and he knows at that very moment she is the one he’s been waiting for. Little did he know she was deaf but that doesn’t stop him from falling for her.

This journey they take together is like a fairy tail and your heart can’t help but ride along with them. This movie is about fighting for what you want, making a difference in the world, following your dreams, and never letting go of what makes you happy.

I haven’t seen something so inspiring in quite some time and couldn’t resist sharing. This movie is a take your breath away moment and you don’t want to miss it!

Here are some of my favorite quotes from the movie that I will be taking to heart with me:

“I’m not gonna miss out on something that could be great just cause it might also be hard.”

“Focus on yourself, not on others. Listen to your heart, not to the crowd.”

“This is the first day of your new life.Β But do not take good things for granted.
Listen to the world.”

“Music’s a powerful thing. A song can change your mood. Make a memory. One song can change your whole life.”

I will be watching this movie again and again. I can’t believe I haven’t heard of it before now!

Games Emma Loves!

1 Sep

I’m always trying to find things for Emma that are not only fun but also educational. Here is one of the things that we’ve gotten her that she’s absolutely falling in love with – but also makes Mommy happy too!!

Instead of just playing garbage on our phones we try to pick games that are entertaining but also going to help in some way. There’s this awesome download we found called Touch ‘n’ Sing. It’s a a free download and then you can pick which games you want to add on for a really low price! (it comes with two free games!)

I love having apps on my phone to keep Emma entertained in situations she’d be bored. Like at restaurants when we are waiting to be seated, or in the car on a long trip! Emma tends to ask for my phone a lot during the day and I don’t mind handing it over at all since we have options that are educational.

Each song on this app is interactive! She’s either popping balloons or she is making the characters move to the song. I think my favorite thing is that it fits into any age stage! There’s a little bit for everyone in here. Whether you are teaching your little one words, letters, or your older one lyrics to songs – it is pretty darn entertaining!

You can get this download on itunes or in your app store for free!

Sing It Out Loud! Or At Least Write It.

22 Sep

I’ve always been a girl who loves to personalize things. Well – I did it again! I’ve been seeing people personalize their pillows with song lyrics they love – so I set out to find the perfect lyrics for my pillows πŸ™‚ It took a while and a lot of no that’s not it between Brian and I. I wanted him to be as attached to these pillows as I want to be so he had a say in what we chose.

All you need is fabric, a fabric marker (or two), a pillow, a sewing machine (or you can hand stitch with a needle & thread), and some lyrics of course!

Brian and I chose to use the lyrics from Coldplay – Yellow. We are big Coldplay fans and some of our favorite songs as much as we liked them – really didn’t work out for pillow lyrics. So if you do this project you may realize that half of them don’t really work. I like songs with a little bit of Β aΒ repetitionΒ in it, but enough words to keep you reading.

If you don’t have consistent handwriting or are afraid you want write in a straight line – try not to worry. Mine isn’t either if you look closely enough you’ll realize I write like a third grader – but if you look back up at the picture above it doesn’t look so bad! Plus it gives it a little character πŸ™‚

The rest of this how to will be posted later on. I’m excited to get the pillow sewn so you can all see the finished look of it!

What song would you love on a pillow for your room?

Thanks for stopping by!

The Piano Bar is Where it’s at!

25 Jun

What a weekend! ❀

I’ll start off with a big congrats to my sister at KrittersRamblings, who is getting married in August! This weekend we celebrated her bridal shower and bachelorette party πŸ™‚

What better way to celebrate then to go to a Piano Bar!? To be honest, I had no idea what I was in for. I’ve never been to nor heard of a piano bar before and was extremely excited! So we headed to the National Harbor:

This place is gorgeous! I’ve been there once prior to this weekend and have yet to really take it all in so I will definitely be going back πŸ™‚

When we walked into the bar and got our seats I realized this wasn’t your typical bar at all. We were right in front of the stage where the two pianos, drums, guitars, and everything else was! Then once the show started – I was amazed.

Two guys are playing the piano and singing to all different kinds of music from Journey to Pink Floyd to Lynyrd Skynyrd to Van Morrison to Foster The People to Tyga! We even got him to play and sing “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen!

In order to get them to play a song you want, you write it down on a piece of paper or napkin, pull out some ones, and take them up to the piano and they’ll play anything you want as long as they know it! I was amazed, to say the least, at the amount of songs they just knew off the top of their heads and what’s even better is they have no idea what songs people are going to request!

We were one happy group of girls! Check out the guy playing the piano behind us – he’s Ronnie “Fresh” Smith and he was our favorite πŸ™‚ He was not only amazing but seriously entertaining!

So congrats to my big sis on her amazing next step in her life and to one heck of a weekend celebrating it!

Love Always,

Away from Home

22 Jan

I don’t know what it is about sleeping alone but I can go through an entire trip and be just fine until it’s time to fall asleep without my husband by my side.

I’m beat tired and in desperate need of sleep but here I am wide awake. I tried reading and listening to music but none of it is working.

You would think with the waterfall and river flowing by or the pitter patter of rain hitting the tin roof that it would lull me to sleep. Being without the one person who makes you feel so comfortable and worry free is taking a toll on me.

As much as i have loved every minute of this trip and would do it again in a heart beat I am excited to be back in his arms.

Crafts – Rock On!

27 Aug

I spent a majority of today painting & crocheting while I was waiting for the paint to dry! I must say watching paint dry is ridiculously annoying!!! Thank goodness I found something to do in-between πŸ˜‰ I started working on the giraffe frame and the guitar frame. Unfortunately only one is done due to complications – poor giraffe will have to wait! My little painting hands are tired! But I did finish the guitar! Check it out πŸ˜€

I am completely in love with this little guitar – one because it’s hott – two because I’m a guitar hero/rock band fan – three it’s so hard to find awesome things for boys and I think this would be awesome in a little boys room!

I think I’m going to do one in red and one that turquoise just to mix it up and see what it looks like!

This is going to be an expensive addiction!! I haven’t posted this on etsy yet because I’m still doing a little tweaking but I’ll let you know when I do!

And for those of you wondering what I’m crocheting – I’m practicing my own version of a cowl. It’s going to be much thinner than this one:

But I’m working on learning different crocheting techniques so I can master it and then attempt this one! It’s probably not going to look much like this one because I’m using a much smaller needle and skinner yarn but hopefully it turns out awesome! πŸ˜€

I should be able to finish this in no time – with the amount of frames & painting I’ll be doing these next couple of days – I’m going to need something to do while the paint dries πŸ˜‰

Okay – back to crafting!

Thanks everyone for stopping by!

Love Always

Daily Life: Feeling Miserable

15 Jun

I know I said I was going to finish a project each day but it’s not happening today. I’m feeling miserable. Not sick miserable.. just miserable. E’s about to go down for a nap and I have about a thousand chores I’m supposed to be doing but somehow I can’t come up with the motivation to move. I feel like crawling into a little ball and just hiding from everything today.

I hope this doesn’t last long..

Crafts: A Mom’s Day Off Success Story ;)

23 Apr

Let me just start off by saying that I absolutely love my child. I really really adore her – but today ROCKED! I put aside my daily chores, put aside the cleaning nagging feeling inside, put aside electronic distractions, gave my child to her Nana, and B even got out of the house to pick up a few things and wash his car πŸ˜€

Today was a completely awesome mommy day off and I have proof to show πŸ˜‰

I’ve been dying to pull out my sewing machine so I started off with some scrap fabric I picked up and a zipper I had for another project πŸ˜› I didn’t use a pattern or really measure (very well). I just made a zipper pouch for the fun of not having to follow directions, take twenty minutes to figure out what the heck they are saying, oh and hey I didn’t even iron the fabric πŸ˜› I went all out and did it my way or the highway and I love it!! Now that I’ve finished making it, I have a better idea of an easier more flawless way to make it but who cares!? I just wanted to make SOMETHING! and I did .. so here it is πŸ˜€

I don’t know exactly what I am going to use it for yet, but who cares?! LOOK WHAT I MADE!! So proud of me πŸ˜€

After that I made some report cards for next week. Yes I would show you pictures but they aren’t that amazing. I kinda went skimpy/boring on them just because I wanted to get them done. If I get the itch to make them better after dinner I’ll see what I can do then maybe they’ll be picture worthy.

Then after that I took a lunch break! Yay two PB&J’s pleaseΒ and thank you! Then it was back to work, after I sat for a minute, and watched TV (insert guilty face). I blame B, he was lounging watching TV and I couldn’t resist.

Then back to work it was for me! I decided to use my new paint pens, yes!! I ordered some new paint pens πŸ˜€

So of course I had to use them Right Away!! Well if you saw my last monkey frame.. it was a sad disaster. I decided now that I have the colors I needed that I’d try again. Here’s how it turned out:

Much better looking monkeys if I do say so myself πŸ˜‰ Well that was way too much fun! I needed today to kick it back and just be creative and I have a feeling I’m going to have to figure out how to do this with E somehow. I’ll have to come up with some plans on keeping her distracted happy and maybe even crafty with me (as in crayons and paper crafty). Never know until you try!?

Well it’s about time to go pick munchkin up so I’ll be back later tonight!

Love Always,

Daily Life: Warm Breezes Through My Window

4 Apr

Today is amazing!! E is feeling a heck of a lot better. We got out and got some things done and soaked up the lovely fresh air, then we came back for lunch and nap time. E slept for about thirty minutes and decided she was ready to get back up. Then about thirty minutes later she was ready to go back down for a nap. Silly head. I got everything done that I’ve been putting off for the past few days and am feeling amazing. My windows are wide open and the warm breeze is making me the happiest mom EVER!

Another plus is my dad is out back working on the “fence” for the girls. He’s put in the stakes and built all the sections of the fence. He’s just got to nail the fence to the stakes, paint the stakes white and TADA! We are all ready to set up and play outside!! I think this new addition is going to make this summer a lot more fun and I think E and P will nap better because of it.

It’s so cute. I’ll have to take pictures and put them up here πŸ˜€

Right now I have Perpetual Groove playing and I am relaxing for a few minutes. My sister is coming to spend the night tonight before she leaves tomorrow for Las Vegas. She has a work thing to go to and the airport is a lot closer to us!! I can’t remember the last time that she saw E but it’s been quite some time so that will be fun catching up!

I am also planning on doing something seriously creative with my scarves for an AWESOME picture and to show you all the finished striped product πŸ˜› It’s been so cloudy these past few days and I wanted you to get the best quality view of all my hard work!

Guess I should go do that now πŸ˜‰

Love Always,
