Happy Birthday To ME!

2 Feb

Although today is my official birthday – my amazing family got together this past weekend for an early birthday celebration! We ate dinner, came home to my mom’s amazing homemade cheescake and mint squares and they surprised me with a new kitchen accessory:

This momma got an amazing KitchenAid Mixer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This new addition got me so pumped, I cleaned out and rearranged my entire kitchen to give it a nice new home! But of course I didn’t stop there. I found some awesome pins to keep me busy for the next year making delicious things for my family. Here’s some great things I found:

Objects of My Affection – Audio Review

15 Jul

The second audio book I’ve listened to so far and although it didn’t stand out to me as a must read, it was definitely interesting enough to listen to! Being a person who loves to organize and thinks going through someone else’s trash can get you some serious treasures – this book description grabbed me.

I also wasn’t that impressed with the ready Xe Sands. I’m not going to cut her out of my willing to listen to list just yet but she didn’t have a very diverse range of voices which made it difficult to figure out who was talking sometimes.

Description via Amazon:

Lucy Bloom is broke, freshly dumped by her boyfriend, and is forced to sell her house to send her nineteen-year-old son to drug rehab. Although she’s lost it all, she’s determined to start over. So when she’s offered a high-paying gig helping clear the clutter from the huge home of reclusive and eccentric painter Marva Meier Rios, Lucy grabs it. But she soon learns that the real challenge may be taking on Marva, who seems to love her objects too much to let go of any of them.

While trying to stay on course toward a strict deadline—and with an ex-boyfriend back in the picture, a new romance on the scene, and her son’s rehab not going as planned—Lucy discovers that Marva isn’t just hoarding, she is also hiding a big secret. The two form an unlikely bond, as each learns from the other that there are those things in life we keep and those we need to let go—but it’s not always easy to know the difference.

If you are looking for a different kind of story line and a little change in pace to what you usually read, this may just hit the mark. I love a story that’s a one of a kind and doesn’t seem like a spin off of other stories but I wish there was something a little more in the story. Something was missing.

What To Do With All Those Scraps

4 May

In the process of getting organized and moving into the craft room I noticed I had a few bins of scrap fabrics. As exciting as that is for future projects, it’s also a bit overwhelming! So of course, I check out Pinterest to see what everyone else is doing with their scrap fabric to figure out a brilliant idea for myself!

Don't ever through away your scraps, no matter how small you think! Put them altogether in a clean jar for easy use.via mapleandmagnolia

As much as I love how cute this huge jar of scraps is, I think I’d be a bit flustered when trying to find the perfect match for a project! I think I am going to go with something more color coordinated so I can quick grab a few I love.

I love the color coordinating here but it still seems hard to find what you are looking for and the thought of it looking messy might drive me a little insane (I feel like I’m a little bit OCD here!).

Love Love Loving the idea of them color coded in drawers! Now if you haven’t seen my craft room it’s here, I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with my closet storage wise and had a little something like this in mind:

I’m thinking since I already have my yarn stashed elsewhere that at the top row I might put these red and black boxes full of my scraps into organized by color. My boxes look similar to this:

I love that they aren’t see through – so they hide the chaos but they can be labeled and are seriously functional! Now all I need is my handy helping men and a home depot run!

What do you do with all your scrap fabric?

Getting Down and Dirty

23 Jan

Alright this post is not going to be the typical post. I have a few things on my mind that I felt like sharing because I know I can’t be the only one that feels this way!

I love new beginnings. I love the feeling of starting something that could make a huge difference in my families lives. There’s something about the way a new adventure in life can really spark a sense of hope in someone.

I guess you could say I’m a new beginnings junky! When I notice that I’m getting in a rut of things I get frustrated, bummed, and get antsy.

Antsy is where the magic happens. I can’t stop searching for that perfect thing even though I have no idea what I’m looking for somehow inspiration always finds me! I find that next new thing and I go nuts researching it until I feel ready.

When I reach that moment I tend to search and destroy. Which for me means rearrange, clean and organize every single thing I can think of that might in any way have any slight thing to do with my new inspiration. Okay some of them don’t but it’s super fun!

Then I make a notebook full of lists and goals and preparations and steps to succeed.

I spend a few weeks trucking along with this wonderful, why didn’t I think of this earlier?! mood. Then I get stuck in a rut and we start back at square one.

I am officially noting to everyone that this is my new problem. Who knows, maybe one of these days my next new thing will actually pan out and satisfy my crazy need for new happenings in my life!

Does anyone else feel the same way? What do you do about it?

Moving Moving Purging Moving!

2 Jul

Hey everyone! In the process of moving – this girl is PURGING! It seems like every box I open  I get rid of almost half of it (except my clothes 😉 haha!)

This week it was CD’s, DVD’s, & Video Games. Granted I don’t own many video games because they are mostly Brian’s,  I do have a few that I will be passing down to Emma Beans and other’s I’m downright ready to get rid of.

001

We have a collection of DVDs and if I hadn’t taken out Emma’s DVD’s, we wouldn’t have any space in this sucker!

002

Brian’s Video Games drawers. I’m pretty sure he has more than this hiding somewhere 😛

003

Oh wait – yes that is more video games 🙂

I didn’t even take a picture of our CD’s – They are still in boxes..

So while I’m purging all of this with Brian, I was introduced to Music Magpie.

It’s an online company that literally buys your old CDs, DVDs, and Games from you. It takes the hassle away from yard selling, trading them in at Game Stop, or selling them on Amazon or Ebay.

musicmagpie

I created a free account, typed in the barcode info and it immediately gave me a price for my items. I haven’t even done a quarter of our things and we’ve already almost hit $100 dollars!!! My mouth dropped when I saw this!

Best part of this? I don’t even have to pay for shipping! You print out your shipping information and put it on the box and say, “See You Later!!!” (Actually no I won’t – I’ll see a sweet check in the mail later 😉 haha)

This has to be the newest number one purging and organizing tip I’ve gotten all month! If you want to check it out – click the link above and give it a go yourself! You can go through the whole process to just see what you are going to make without even sending your things in.

After showing this to Brian, I think he’s a little more excited about getting rid of a few things and that’s a huge accomplishment to say the least!

What do you think!?

Love Always,

J

Are You Up For A Challenge?

19 Feb

I just love that I posted about my future schedule not to long ago and here I am mixing up my own schedule to make things work out 😛 Anyways!! So I had a long way past due thought last night and I couldn’t get it out of my head so I decided to write about it and give you a challenge to step up and do it yourself!!

I am all about having priorities, keeping them in mind, sticking with them, and then when it comes time to – reprioritizing them! I had an AH HA moment which I seem to have on a quarterly basis (haha that’s sad) that made me take a step back and say, “Wait a minute – I’m not moving forward here – what am I doing wrong?”

You could say that my schedule these days has seemed a bit packed but to be completely honest I love being busy! As long as the busy that I’m being is making me happy, I see no harm in it. Sometimes I get busy helping other people and realize that I’m losing myself and my priorities in the process. This tends to happen more often that I’d like it to but I have such a big heart and have a hard time saying no – I chalk it up to life lessons. These things are holding me back.

As most of you know, Brian and I have been house shopping!! Which is on my 30 things to do before I’m 30 list so BOOOYAH it’s happening 😉 haha. This has been taking up a lot of our nights and weekends but I’m so giddy and excited about it – I DON’T CARE! Obviously this is a new priority in my life and I’m loving it.

Other things on the other hand have seem to gotten off track to where I want to be. One of my goals was to notch this blog up and really  make it the dream blog I always hoped it would be. As most of you, I’ve been slacking in that department but I haven’t stopped trying! The effort is still there!

The saddest part is I’ve put my Etsy Shop aside. I’m actually embarrassed I’m even saying this because it’s the ONE HUGE MAJOR GOAL I really want to achieve. I want my shop to be my full time job – I want to wake up every morning and know that being creative has gotten me there and I’m going to keep doing it until I run out of it 😉

I was reading a post the other day about selling items to shops, wholesale orders, and their experiences. It was like a punch in the face that I’m not doing what I want to be doing. What’s stopping me from working my tail off at my shop to do this? Oh right, all these other things that I’ve been making time for that I shouldn’t be.

As I’m writing this I am shaking my head but also so darn proud of myself for seeing it so clearly and knowing exactly what I need to do in order to fix it.

So I’ve decided to start a trend. I want everyone to make a list of their priorities in life – what’s most important to you and what do you want to spend a majority of your time daily doing – down to the not so important but you still want to keep it up. Now make a list of your goals where you want your priorities to be in five years. Think about your future and really plan on what you think are reasonable (maybe a little unreasonably but not totally) goals that you could see yourself doing.

Now figure out what it’s going to take to get from your current priority list to your five year plan. Start looking at what you are doing on a daily basis that’s holding you back from that.

Are you able to cut back on that? Is there a way out? If not, stick with it but remember that in five years you don’t want that thing to be a priority anymore. In order to get rid of the things that are keeping you from your goals you need to MAKE them go away yourself. Find a solution – even if its a long term solution – that could really make a difference in your life.

Let’s make this a movement to do what you want to do – after all it is your life!!

Feel free to leave a comment below to let me know some of your goals and what you hope to stop doing and start doing these next few years! I’d love to hear them!

Love Always,

J

Spinning Out of Control!

23 Jan

Is it obvious that I have been preoccupied with other things?!

I hope you didn’t think I was gone for good 🙂

Just sleeping when I got the chance instead of typing 😛

So what’s my cause for all this crazy silence?

Well one reason is I’ve been blogging over here at A Charming Twist! One of my amazing friends and I started a blog together to talk about crafts, fashion, home decor, food, and life! It’s been so much fun posting with her!

acharmingtwist

On my day off during the week I’d usually come up with my posts and do a few projects. These days I’ve been helping out a company I used to work for before my stay-at-home mom days! They needed an extra hand and when it comes to organizing things I can resist 😉

photo (29)

Another reason is I’m attempting one of my 30 before 30 goals! I’m taking Art Classes!! It’s been super exciting and I’ll share all the details about it later but it’s so nice to be accomplishing goals 🙂

Artschool

Along with those I’ve been picking up shifts and taking the girls out to keep from getting cabin fever! We’ve been traveling to the mall and indoor playground to keep them active, get a little fresh air, and have new experiences. Our local mall has a train that the kids can ride around the mall and a merry-go-round!

merry-go-round

This has also lead us in eating out which I love! Going out to eat with these girls is twice as much fun as taken them places meant for them -these girls love people watching, aren’t picky eaters, and love to hold a conversation 😉

Even though it’s been crazy busy around here I haven’t forgotten about you all! I have a ton of ideas to keep you entertained and hope to be getting back on track whether my schedule is packed or not 😉

What have you all been up to? I’d love to hear!

Love Always,

Wasted Space Not So Wasted Anymore!

8 Jan

Emma’s closet has been only used for storage since she was born. We have a big chest of drawers for her and since her clothes are so tiny I would just fold them up and put them in there. We also had the changing table drawers for sheets and blankets so there was really never a need to hang up her clothes.

037

This resulted in using the closet to put things she wasn’t using in! For a while I’ve wanted to do something differently and I finally got the kick in the butt to change things up around here 🙂

038

Emma’s closet has this nook inside of it that I’ve been dying to make a little reading spot out of! So while I was giving the closet a useful makeover I decided to make this part a little place to hide out for Emma.

060

On one side she has her spot to sit and read with her books.

056

The other side is her stuffed animal pile and puzzles on top of the shelf. Sometimes she’ll crawl into the pile of animals and hide out!

054

The rest of her closet got organized and is finally be used for it’s main purpose!! For the past few mornings she’s had a blast picking out her outfits not that she can see them all!

050

When it gets quiet around here I know just where to find her!

Now I need to make a special spot for me to go hide and get things done 😉 I wonder if Emma would let me work on my blogging in my closet?

Love Always,

J

Christmas At 3

1 Jan

This year Emma had 5 different Christmases!! That’s what happens when you have a huge family and you live close to all of them 🙂 We actually missed out on one family Christmas this year so there could have been six! Whew. So instead of splitting them all up into different posts I’ll just give you the quick peak at a few of them.

005

Little miss too excited to wait two minutes for me to get a pick before she saw all the presents! She was so excited!

018

This year we let her play with each toy after she opened it. Needless to say it took from 9am-4pm the first day!

033

Emma’s dressy outfit 🙂

035

By Round 3 of Christmas she was a professional at opening presents!

031

Brian and I enjoying watching her open presents instead of having to help her like last year 😉

030

Chick Fil A treats for Christmas this year! I had to share mine of course 😉

026

A beautiful mist of snow just in time for Christmas this year.

024

Now it’s time to say goodbye to December and hello to the new year!

I hope you all had wonderful holiday’s this year and I am looking forward to a new year of blogging here! What are you looking forward to this year?

Love Always,

What Are You Doing!?

14 Dec

Today I am doing finishing touches to make sure I’m all prepped for my show tomorrow!

photo (27)

These are pieces of wood I spray painted with chalkboard paint to make price signs for the show. I love how bright they are and how they stand out. I also love that I don’t have to tag price EACH item I’ve made. I’ve tried many different ways to tag price my items and realized that all of them take WAY to long and I could have made more items for my show instead of wasting time tagging each and every single thing.

il_fullxfull.256405979

These are the kinds of tags I was trying to use. I had to write out each tag and use string to tie to each item. It was exhausting and frustrating. Another kind i used were sticky price tags which I hated. They either leave sticky messes on your items or they fall off and are nowhere to be found which result in a, “how much is this!?”

After going through all that I realized I didn’t mind people asking me how much things were. It actually seemed to be the conversation starter and gave me a chance to explain the process of making my items and that I do custom orders as well. After that I tried to come up with a different way to price my items – which resulted in the chalkboard paint boards. Now my prices are easy to be seen but if someone really wanted to talk to me or ask me my prices I was ready and available 🙂

What are you working on today? Leave a comment and let me know or share a link to show me what you are doing!

Love Always,

J
