Future Schedules

10 Feb

Is it sad that I’ve already planned out my schedule for when my dream comes true!? Of course this also involves Emma being in school during the day but now that I think about it – it isn’t too far away!

While I was chatting today I was talking about how amazing it would be to wake up Monday mornings and go thrift store shopping searching for the amazing pieces and projects I’d love to work on later. Then hit up the craft store for whatever supplies I needed that week and grabbing lunch while I’m out!

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday I’d craft, create, and work on the things I found that week.

Friday I would take pictures of my work, blog post about it, put it up in my etsy shop to sell, and do all the computer and paper work necessary.

Saturday & Sunday would be strictly family days!

It’s still a dream I’m working on to have my etsy shop be my sole source of income, but it being the thing I spent a majority of my day on instead of fitting it in in between things really is something the creative person inside me is dying to have!

Looks like I have a few years to figure out how to cross over from it being my part time job to my full time job! This transition is going to be a tough on – I can tell already πŸ˜‰

Spinning Out of Control!

23 Jan

Is it obvious that I have been preoccupied with other things?!

I hope you didn’t think I was gone for good πŸ™‚

Just sleeping when I got the chance instead of typing πŸ˜›

So what’s my cause for all this crazy silence?

Well one reason is I’ve been blogging over here at A Charming Twist! One of my amazing friends and I started a blog together to talk about crafts, fashion, home decor, food, and life! It’s been so much fun posting with her!

acharmingtwist

On my day off during the week I’d usually come up with my posts and do a few projects. These days I’ve been helping out a company I used to work for before my stay-at-home mom days! They needed an extra hand and when it comes to organizing things I can resist πŸ˜‰

Another reason is I’m attempting one of my 30 before 30 goals! I’m taking Art Classes!! It’s been super exciting and I’ll share all the details about it later but it’s so nice to be accomplishing goals πŸ™‚

Artschool

Along with those I’ve been picking up shifts and taking the girls out to keep from getting cabin fever! We’ve been traveling to the mall and indoor playground to keep them active, get a little fresh air, and have new experiences. Our local mall has a train that the kids can ride around the mall and a merry-go-round!

merry-go-round

This has also lead us in eating out which I love! Going out to eat with these girls is twice as muchΒ fun as taken them places meant for them -these girls love people watching, aren’t picky eaters, and love to hold a conversation πŸ˜‰

Even though it’s been crazy busy around here I haven’t forgotten about you all! I have a ton of ideas to keep you entertained and hope to be getting back on track whether my schedule is packed or not πŸ˜‰

What have you all been up to? I’d love to hear!

Love Always,

Christmas At 3

1 Jan

This year Emma had 5 different Christmases!! That’s what happens when you have a huge family and you live close to all of them πŸ™‚ We actually missed out on one family Christmas this year so there could have been six! Whew. So instead of splitting them all up into different posts I’ll just give you the quick peak at a few of them.

005

Little miss too excited to wait two minutes for me to get a pick before she saw all the presents! She was so excited!

018

This year we let her play with each toy after she opened it. Needless to say it took from 9am-4pm the first day!

By Round 3 of Christmas she was aΒ professionalΒ at opening presents!

Brian and I enjoying watching her open presents instead of having to help her like last year πŸ˜‰

Chick Fil A treats for Christmas this year! I had to share mine of course πŸ˜‰

Pepe Le Pew!

12 Dec

20121008111600!Pepe_Le_Pew
It’s not exactly what it sounds like. I was talking to my mom the other day about how I’m not so peppy anymore and the entire time I was talking she said she couldn’t think of anything but Pepe Le Pew..

I had a moment of clarification this weekend while my high school best friend was in town. I used to be easily excited, the first person to jump up and down for joy with good news, and always smiling. I miss that person I used to be. Then I looked at my mom and said, “My peppy went le pew..”

Who knows exactly when I lost it but one thing is for sure that I’m determined to get it back! How am I going to do that? Here’s how:

  • I am going to do sweet things for my husband and child for no reason. My favorite thing to do was make others smile and surprise them in some way – so I’m going to start doing that again!!
  • Lately when something awesome happens to me I tell my husband and my mom and that’s it. Who doesn’t love good news!? So now I am going to start telling all my friends as well and have them tell me when good things happen to them. Talking about good things instead of bad things is just what we all need.
  • Spending a little more time in the morning making myself look good is something I loved. It made me feel like I could tackle the rest of the day because I was proud of myself to start out with.
  • Not feeling guilty about doing what I want to is something that started when I became a Mom. I am the kind of person who always puts everyone before myself but repeatedly Brian tells me to put myself first. He’s right – so I am going to follow through with it and do a few things for myself. I have a feeling that’s going to be a major self-esteem booster!

We all need a little Pep in our life, and a little less Pepe Le Pew πŸ˜‰

Nick Mom, You Crack Me Up

24 Nov

I don’t know if you all have heard of Nick Mom or not but while staying up and finishing chores I decided to watch it one night. I haven’t laughed so hard in such a long time! This show is like Comedy Central for mothers.

For those of you who are mothers that love to laugh at all the ridiculous things that your kids get into – this is for you. For those of you who are mothers that get offended easily – don’t watch this!! As for me, I’m a mom that laughs and this made me laugh.

They have two different shows that I’ve seen: Parental Discretion which is basically like SNL for Moms. Some parts are funny some parts are just plain dumb.

Another show is Mom’s Night Out which is stand up comedy, again funny.

Something you probably weren’t expecting, the commercials are even jokes and one liners to make you smile. This was definitely an interesting night for me!

Don’t have time or want to stay up to watch these shows? Oh don’t worry, they have a website! NickMom.comΒ get your laughs in when you want πŸ˜‰

Thought I’d share the fun!

Happy Thanksgiving!

22 Nov

This year for Thanksgiving – we are spending time in Front Royal with Brian’s side of the family. We do it potluck style where we each bring Β something, we catch up, watch the game (I married into a Redskins family), and eat!! I can picture it now – the men in their jersey’s hanging out in front of the TV, the women talking about life, and Emma running around like she’s been eating sugar for weeks πŸ˜‰

So while that image entertains you (hopefully as much as it entertains me) here’s a list of things I am thankful for this year:

My loving family.

The ability to do what I love each day.

That even though sometimes we are stressed out and trying to make things work around here – that we are able to do it and we make it through all the hard times together.

I know that there is WAY more to be thankful of but right now, those are the most important for me πŸ™‚
What are you thankful for this year?

Love Always,

J

Our Little Family.

21 Nov

It’s not often that the three of us go out together. If we are all home then usually one person stays with Emma and the other will run errands or one of us will take Emma out while the other stays home. Since a majority of the time Brian and I are both working there isn’t much time that we have together that overlaps and when we do we like to spend it together being lazy and enjoying each other’s company.

My schedule this year has picked up and we’ve been working a majority of four days a week instead of three – which I am not complaining about all! I love providing child care and watching the girls play together. Brian’s schedule is a normal Monday – Friday schedule but he has most Tuesdays off.

Almost every Tuesday I dedicate to running errands, getting groceries, and getting ready for the next week. I like to do all those things during the week because it’s so crowded on the weekends so it’s much more relaxing to go while everyone else is busy. Saturday’s and Sunday’s are when I get to work in the studio or we have family events. It’s a rare occasion around here when we don’t have at least one thing to do on the weekend.

Thanks to thanksgiving break this week and last Tuesday doing 99% of my errands for two weeks – this Tuesday was going to be an easy day. I only had one errand to run and we were all going out as a family together πŸ™‚ Since this doesn’t happen often I like to soak it up and enjoy it!

I spent the morning getting ready, doing my hair and make up (which hardly happens), getting Emma ready, and cleaning up the house so we’d come home to no chores. Once we were all in the car I snapped a picture of Emma:

I think she was pretty excited about going out with both of us. We went to Harris Teeter to pick up rolls for Thanksgiving and a few other things. Watching Brian push her in the cart and chat with her was adorable! I don’t know what it is about men and their children but it makes my heart melt!

After wiping one Harris Teeter out of rolls we realized we needed to make another stop at a different Harris Teeter. Emma found it amusing that we were going to another grocery store!

It wasn’t much but I loved it.

Late Night Chats With Myself ;)

15 Nov

Even though you are reading this at some point and it’s probably Thursday for you – technically I am writing this at 11:15 pm Wednesday. So I’ll go ahead and apologize for the lack of pictures and random long sentences.

I’m sitting up after realizing that I have absolutely no clean clothes to wear to my appointment tomorrow. Little Mrs. Has It All Together from my list post yesterday, doesn’t quite have it all together πŸ˜‰ Well at least not for tomorrow!

If you are a mom, you probably understand when I say that I tend to put everyone before myself. In this case, the rest of my families clothes managed to get done before mine. Silly me thinking I’d be fine with raggity t-shirts and leggings. Whoops!!

So tonight I will be sitting up listening for the dryer to stop so I can move loads in order to have an outfit that is allowed to step out in the public clean for tomorrow!

It’s been a long time since I’ve stayed up late and been the only person awake. If you have been a long time follower of my blog then you’d know that I used to do this all the time. It was the only way to get peace and quiet to myself. Emma was hardly napping for a while there and when she was, I was too!

I had gotten used to staying up later just to get some me time and I spent it sewing, crocheting, blogging, catching up on music and tv shows. It’s amazing that an hour or two of dead silence for your brain to think can really change a person! I felt so free, got so much crafting accomplished, and almost felt like a teenager all over again πŸ™‚

My blogging might have even been better because of it! When I have time to think, writing comes so naturally. Like now. I could probably ramble on for hours because it’s like my mind has space to stretch out and breathe! That is if you like it when I ramble πŸ˜‰

Staying up like this tonight is a reminder of all that. It’s also a reminder of why I quit doing it!! Sure an hour or two of freedom sounds so refreshing and exciting, but I was also dead tired the next day. I hardly woke up on time, counting down the hours to Emma’s nap time so I could nap too, and feeling like a zombie. I really don’t miss living like that. I missed out on so many fun things with Emma!! I’m not so much looking forward to that tomorrow – but at least I’ll be clothed properly.

Luckily tomorrow is a day off for me as well. Emma will be playing with Nana all day and I’ll be with my Mom in Alexandria for my appointment, her appointment, and then running a few errands. I’ll be able to not be completely all there tomorrow πŸ˜‰ and if anyone understands that – it’s my Mom!!

As much as I’ll hate this tomorrow – I may just end up doing this again every once in a while. My brain needed it!

Well it’s time to change loads and catch up on shows πŸ˜‰ See you all bright and early tomorrow and probably napping as soon as I get home haha!

Love Always,

J

Keeping It Old School

14 Nov

If there’s one thing I love the most – it’s a fresh pad of paper πŸ™‚ I know that sounds ridiculous but it’s the only thing that keeps me organised!

One Steno pad lasts me about 2 months. So every 2 months I get a fresh new one to re-organize my goals and lists. On the first page I put my Money Goals for the two weeks and the year. It keeps me on track for how much I hope to make in order to make this my sole income. It also gives me a perspective on what my goal was for the past 2 months and what I made during that time.

I also make a list of things I want to finish in that two months. As soon as it’s finished I get the joy of crossing it out!! It also is a way to remind myself to put it in my inventory list, know what yarn I need to purchase to replace the materials, and when it’s sold I mark it out on my inventory list to put it in outright for my taxes.

How can you be organized without a shopping list?! This girl can’t! I write things down in two sections: Home & Work. In order to keep this sheet available for two months I tend to white out what I’ve purchased so I can use it again πŸ™‚ This page gets some serious love by the end of two months!

Then on the rest of the 75 sheets I write my daily lists of what I want to accomplish. It includes: housework, Emma’s needs, my goals, and sometimes even reminders for Brian. Since I’m limited on time I can get projects done, I schedule those during nap time and night time. You’ll see it says crochet during nap time, which today means I’ll be finishing up a boot cuff and making a matching one to create a pair. It then says crochet after bath time, which means I’ll be finishing up cup cozies and starting on a scarf.

It may seems silly to not organize my things on the computer but I can’t always take my computer with me when I’m shopping, I need time away from my computer (especially when I’m trying to get things accomplished), and I like the satisfaction of writing things down and crossing them off my list! It’s a joy I just can’t even explain!

How do you organize your life? Do you make sure to re-evaluate your list after a period of time?

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Love Always,

J

My Little Big Girl

13 Nov

My little girl is getting too big!

These days my little sunshine wants to sit in a seat “all by herself” no baby seats allowed. In a normal chair I would be fine, but because we sit in bar stools to eat, it made me nervous with her that high up and no chair to keep her in it! It’s been two days now and she’s doing just fine. My eyes don’t leave her side because I’m still terrified, but she is one happy big girl.

We are also potty training! It’s been a long process of trying to teach her to know when she needs to go potty and we still haven’t found out the right system – but we are trying!

Emma is also starting to show serious interest in sports. She loves to kick balls around the house, pretend she’s playing baseball, smack golf balls across the room, pretend she’s swimming like a fish in the tub, and dance like nobody’s business.

She’s been practicing conversation with random people when I’m pushing her in the cart in the grocery store. We’ll walk passed someone shopping and she knows just what to do:

Emma: Hi!

Stranger: Usually looks and smiles.

Emma: What you doing?!

Stranger: Usually says shopping.

Emma: Oh Okay! (giggles) I shopping too. I see snacks!!

Next lesson is to teach her not all strangers are nice, or want to talk – that’s going to be a tough one!

Last night she had tubby time and she got in trouble for splashing outside of the tub. She did it more than once so tubby time was immediately over. This morning when I woke her up and this happened:

Emma: I sorry I splashed and make mess.

Me: That’s okay. Thank you for saying you are sorry.

Emma: I sorry I make Mommy sad.

Me: That’s okay hunny.

Emma: I no splash again!

Me: Fantastic!

I can’t believe how much she’s growing up! This time next year she’ll be in school and I won’t know what to do with myself all day!
