I Made A Basket!

14 Mar

Alright, so it wasn’t exactly what I had intended but I love it! I found this amazing tutorial on how to sew a basket and immediately had a flashback to Christmas. I had been seeing on pinterest all these Christmas tree’s in baskets and loved the idea of it.

When I had gone online to look for a basket, the prices stopped me in my tracks. I was already on a Christmas budget and was determined to spend most of my money on the girls this year (we have a big family!). So I put it aside thinking I’d look into it later. Well we all know what happens, I completely forget about it!

Then I saw a tutorial for how to make a basket and thought to myself, hey this could actually be affordable if my only cost is rope and thread! I was right. I can save a ton of money making this on my own, but I didn’t buy enough rope to try out that big of a basket, so I ended up with this size instead:

Turns out we really needed this size anyways! Brian and I have had a hard time sharing bowls to keep our keys and things in. Either they are too deep and someone gets stuck on the bottom or they are too big for the table. I feel like this was a great compromise!

I am proud of my little basket and plan on making more! I’m actually in the middle of a sisal one right now!

Let’s see if I can figure out how to make a Christmas tree basket before Christmas next year 😉 haha!

She said she was a dragon princess and ran off to play – needless to say that necklace came back with a little pizza sauce and dog slobber on it. I don’t think anyone will be using this necklace but her 😉 thank goodness I made more!!

Do It Yourself

31 Jul

This past weekend I picked up a Better Homes and Gardens Special interest Publication called Do It Yourself and it got me way excited!

Sometimes as a crafter all you need is a little inspiration. I find my best motivation and inspiration when I want to adjust something in my home. I’ll look around and think hmm.. wouldn’t it be nice to have some bright new curtains? OOOH! Or what about some fun new pillows – and then it’s off to the fabric store I go. Other ways I like to find inspiration are pinterest, other bloggers, friends & family’s homes, but lately I’ve been missing that feel of a quick little inspiration in a few pages kind of way. Complete with pictures, examples, tool lists, and how to’s!

What better way than a magazine or crafty book to keep me on my toes and get me motivated?! So for the next few months I’m going to be reviewing magazines and books for all those crafty people out there 😉 I’m ready to make a commitment and get a subscription with one of these magazines and follow a couple of new authors but I have to find the perfect ones first. After all – I only want the best inspiration right?

This Do It Yourself magazine was one of the first ones I picked up. Needless to say my first judgement was perfect. It didn’t take me long to open up this magazine and be completely lost in it in seconds. I was making notes – writing in the edges – things I want to try, things I want to buy, things I can’t wait make now!

With it’s easy to understand how to’s and great guidelines on tools you’ll want to buy, I feel like I can just jump right in and knock these projects out of the park! It also helps they have A TON of pictures along with the how to’s – I’m a person who needs to see what they heck I’m supposed to do. They even have a Q&A with one of my favorite blogs: YoungHouseLove! Another plus (not like they really need anymore 😉 haha) I already have a list of websites and places to check out.

If you can’t tell by the multiple LOVE’s up at the top of this page – I absolutely love this set up and want to use this in my studio room. The ideas and inspiration in this magazine is more than a dream come true for my first magazine find! To subscribe to this magazine it only costs about $20.00 for two years – which is 8 magazines. As much as I love this magazine, I’m going to have to find another one because I don’t know if I can wait every three months for a new issue!

I give this magazine a 4 out of 5 stars.

  • 5 points for ideas & inspiration
  • 5 points for easy how to and guide steps
  • 5 points for exciting pictures & fun reads
  • 2 points for the amount of issues
  • 5 points for price (4.99 for one issue – you can’t beat that!)

Thanks for stopping by!

Sew Paper!? What A Fabulous Idea!

15 Jul

Here’s another sneak peak at something I’m making for Emma’s Birthday Decorations. I gathered up some scrapbook paper I had laying around, a punch I got for Christmas, and made string paper that I’m hoping to hang from the doorway! I’ve seen this idea everywhere but here’s one of my favorites from Pinterest:

So here’s what I did:

Now I just need to make a 100 more 😉 Haha!!

Mom Jeans? That’s hardly my problem!

8 Jan

After having a child – I completely understand why almost every new mom buys mom jeans, wears baggy clothes, cuts off most of their hair , and hardly wears makeup. Mom jeans are hardly my problem! Since I quit my job and started working from home – my problem is MUCH worse! Try mom jeans, NO makeup, hair a hott mess (and not the cute kind), t-shirts, sweatshirts, your lucky if I remember to change out of my pj’s 😉

So even though I’m not one of those people who really does new years resolutions and I had already decided my resolution was to get my business further off the ground – I’m adding a few things – like for example – to remember that I was once hott. That I’m allowed to spend money on myself for things like clothes and a hair cut! That spending an hour or more “getting ready” was fun.

Tonight I was watching TV with Brian and checking out Pinterest because I’m addicted. Instead of looking at the DIY section I just went ahead and chose Everything to see what everyone else was looking at. As I’m scrolling down I see hott girls, pretty hair, makeup, cloths, crazy boots and I look at Brian and think to myself, “I am one lucky girl that he’s still here!”

If only I was rich and I could get a personal shopper to pick out clothes for me. I feel like after being in a hole (my house) for two years – I have no idea what’s hott anymore – heck I still have no idea what size clothes I wear – I’ve been in momville so long I’m pretty sure even if I went on a shopping spree I’d pick all the wrong things! How nice would it be to say oh hey – figure out what size I am, what looks good on me, and what’s in style and here’s your budget. I’m sure if I did find someone who wanted to do it they’d look at the budget and walk away.

I’m that person that never spends full price on clothes. My sister taught me long long ago how to find the best brands for the best deals and shopping used to be an adventure! I used to schedule the whole day and be ready to drive as far as I needed to go to dig through a bunch of clothes to find what most people would pay a fortune for. My personal shopper would probably cry at the thought of wasting time on me. Oh the days..

So how do you mom’s stay hott, find time to get ready AND shop, and the budget that goes with it? I definitely need all the tips I can get 😉

Love Always,

J

Crafts: Shopping Extravaganza!

11 Sep

Thanks to pinterest I did a little more shopping than I normally would have… I found a bunch of amazing little projects to do in between my inventory list and I’ve already gotten three of them done!

Here’s all the goodies I bought!!

Fabric Fabric Frabic!

Apparently I had a thing for circles today 😉

Felt for flower making!

Beads and fun things:

Some new tools!!

And here’s some of the things I made!! A previously made scarf but I saw this flower on pinterest and I couldn’t resist!! Gray was the only felt color I had on hand but I LOVE IT!!!

It took me all of a few seconds to make it – but keeping it tight and together was a challenge – looks like I’ll have another step to figure out before I go haywire and make a million of these cute little things!

I also saw an example of something like this on pinterest and I couldn’t resist!! The glue still needs a little more time to dry but it was easy and fun to make! I’ll have a DIY tutorial on this tomorrow so if you are interested in making one for yourself stay tuned!

But I couldn’t just stop there – I made another one!

I don’t know what exactly I want to do to finish them off so they don’t look so plain but I’ll come up with something eventually!

Today was a little more relaxing and a little less crafting than I thought it was going to be – but I have a feeling my body needed it. I’m so proud of how much I accomplished last week – five new burp cloths, four frame orders, two burp cloth orders, and a sick baby! But this week is going to be a super busy week and weekend coming up so I won’t be getting done as much as I had planned. Or if I do it will be a miracle!!

For all of you who have been worried about E – she is finally showing signs of coming back to life! Lol. Her cold is on its way out and all that’s left is her raspy voice from her sore throat and her irritableness every once in a while. Sometimes you just get sick of feeling sick and at her age, that’s the only way to show it. Thank goodness it’s near the end! I know she’s just as excited because there are a million toys all over the floor that I’m hoping will just pick themselves up 😉 haha.

Thanks for stopping by!

J
