Let’s Hear It For Some Change!!

21 Sep

Welcome to my typical night!

It usually involves me with the computer – working on my etsy shop, blogging, emailing, or reading other blogs. I’m almost always also crocheting something. Whether it’s a scarf or blanket, I like to keep my fingers busy!

A lot of things happened this weekend that weren’t exactly blog post worthy so I thought I’d combined them all into one! This week I finished three scarves, picked up my dress for a wedding I’m in, worked/played with the girls, organized the next few house projects I’ll be doing, but most importantly – I hit my inventory list goal for the huge craft show I’m doing this year!!! ❤

So let’s all do a happy dance!!!

Okay – now that I got that out of the way I can explain a few things that are going to be coming up these next few weeks.

1. Home projects! Now that I’m not cooped up in my studio or working my little tail off – I now have time to do some projects around this place. Brian and I have a few that we are excited to do! We are making a pallet garden together for our patio outside, we are painting our living room (still choosing paint colors), and putting up a backsplash in our kitchen (finally)!!

2. New crafty projects! Again – goodbye doing the same things every weekend just to stock up. I can now work on some fun new projects that will have nothing to do with craft shows! Who’s excited for random projects?! I am!

3. With all this extra time – you better bet there’s going to be some purging and organizing around this house. Expect some great tips on this.

4. FREE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There will be a lot more posts about whatever Emma and I are doing – even if it is being lazy for the day. I know you’ve missed seeing that little girl and her playful poses.

What are you excited about?

Thanks for stopping by!

Love Always,

J

New Listings – Get Em’ While Their Hott!

11 Feb

I love new listings!! I wish it was easier to post new listing though.. but anyways! I have a few new things listed in my shop on etsy. A special thanks to my husband for helping me out with pictures since I’m disabled 😉 lol.

A creamy white adult sized blanket!

An adorable baby boy blanket!

A blue scarf!

A maroon scarf!

A blue & brown infinity scarf!

I love new things! Right now I am in the middle of a white infinity scarf, a maroon infinity scarf, a mocha infinity scarf for my sister, and another blue & brown one like the one listed above! I also have a teal blanket almost completed for an amazing friend 😀

My Mom and I have been crocheting like crazy people since it seems like this winter is going to be cut short. Crocheting in the heat just isn’t as much fun for some crazy reason 😉 haha.

So stick around! I should have new listings next week to show off too – if you want to check out my etsy store click the link here – Daydreaming Gifts!

Work In Progress Wednesday: Seafood Festival Preview!

1 Feb

Hey Everyone! Finally a work in progress post right!? After taking a vacation and getting sick with a virus that lasted a week, it’s been a while since I’ve been able to actually get something accomplished! Thankfully I’m feeling better and I can get back on track and doing the things I love most!

Today I’m showing you something I’ve been so excited about! Now that the holiday rush is over I’ll be planning my entire year for the biggest craft show I’ve ever signed up for! Four straight days of crazy excitement in my home town – The Seafood Festival!! I’m kicking the new year off with a bang. Since I only have about one more month of cold weather (since this year has been weirdly warm) I’m crocheting my life away this month in hopes that I have enough for the fair. For those of you who don’t know, my home town school colors are maroon and gold so I found this yarn that goes from red to maroon and thought it would be perfect!

So here’s to my first craft show stash scarf!

I absolutely love how the colors just randomly change!

This is an upclose of the picture so you can show dramatic the color changes are – the lighting makes it look a little orange but it’s more of a red maroon like the first picture!

Emma sporting the scarf – when it’s wrapped twice it’s supposed to be like a cowl neck.

I am a half a skein away from being done with this so it will be a tad fuller and cozy! This isn’t the typical yarn I buy but it’s so soft I couldn’t resist! I’ve also been in a search for some gold yarn but that one is a little harder to find in the right softness.

Now if I could crank out about 20 of these in the next few weeks – that would be AWESOME! My goals are outrageous – I know!

Thanks for stopping by!

Crafts: Work In Progress Wednesday!

16 Nov

Welcome to Work In Progress Wednesday! Here is where I show off whatever I’m working on for the week and I also give other shops a chance to show off what they are working on. I’ve always been a big fan of getting to know the person behind the shop and I feel like this is a great way to give everyone a chance to see a little bit behind the scenes of the lives of some amazing shops!

This week I’ve been crocheting a candy cane scarf for a custom order! As soon as I got this order I was super excited about making it and I love it so much that I might just make one for myself!! When it’s all finished I’ll be adding on pockets to the ends as requested. I love pocket scarves! I’m always the kind of person who loses gloves so this is perfect for sticking your hands in to keep them warm or dropping your cell phone in so it’s easy to get to later!

My shop is: Daydreaming Gifts

Here are some other stores I think you might like:

“This is my newest design, GlowBall Greetings- “Peacock Holiday” .  GlowBall Greetings are a unique way to show someone how much you care about them. GlowBall Greetings are a cross between my personal electronic art and traditional greeting cards. This concept came out of creating the first prototype for someone I was in love with a few years back…so the concept came out of love. awwwwwww…

Still working out the bugs with the color choices, though. I wanted purple to be in it…but i might go back to the royal blue ribbon. I’m working on a 2nd version now. I’m also working on the photos as well. There is a peacock feather in there…but i didn’t get a good shot of it. It’s in the back!”

“One of the many things I make are back packs, I found this really nice fall color Hawaiian print fabric and I am in the process of making one of my backpacks out of it. These back packs are great to have for going on a quick trip to the store, going to the gym, going taking some snacks and maybe a frisbee with you to the park. They are great to carry a few things you might need when you don’t want to carry a purse or a big backpack.”

“I am making this baby blanket as a Shower Gift and it has to be done by SATURDAY! I am already a week late as her shower was last week but my baby was running a fever so I schedule a make up lunch with her. Baby blankets are not my favorite item to make, but I do one ever so often.”

Made by sillygeesedesigns – Click the link to see her shop!

“I have been getting ready for a craft and toy show for this weekend. Usually when I go to shows I like to have my Jewelry trees for displays, and maybe sales to! So  I have three to make, I did one today and hopefully a few more tomorrow. Everything starts out like this….. just a bunch of wire and believe me you can’t take a GOOD picture of plain old wire. Then I twist the heck out of it, and it turns into a tree.”

Made by sweetnotion – Click the link to check out her shop!

“I am working on making these stockings for my family members as part of their Christmas gifts. I also have one for sale in my Etsy shop, Christi’s Crochet Corner. Give the gift for that special someone a unique touch with this crocheted masterpiece. Crocheted with Red Heart Supper Saver acrylic yarn this striped stocking measures 16″ long x 6″ wide. The cuff is crocheted with an embroidered holly motif. I can personalize this item with a name instead of the holly. Just let me know in the note to seller section at checkout and please allow an extra 2-3 days for me to make it.”

As the Holiday’s approach, I decided to debut some of my paper-goods at a craft-show my bestie, Jennifer told me about. I really wanted to be a part of one after I helped her with her show a couple of weeks back. Because I am pulling back on my hours at work I will be able to have more time to actually pursue these, Cupcake Wrappers. I’m really hoping to perfect these and let people know about this new niche in Cupcake Fashion!

Made by AndreaLFitts – Click the link to see her shop!

“This is a pillowcase order for a 1-year-old.  The dress is so itty bitty, it’s too cute!  It’s pretty easy too.  I first cut the arm holes and then hem up the top and bottom.  You put the two pieces of hemmed cloth together and sew down each side.  Thread the ribbon in and you’re done! :)”

Made by CoverUndertheMat – Click the link to see her shop!

“This is the beginning of a ‘Cuddle Buddy’, my stuffed animal mini blankets.  🙂   This one will be an ivory fleece hippo with a brown cotton flannel nose, foot pads, and bottom. These blankets are a perfect size for your little one to carry everywhere!”

Crafts: What are you doing!!?

18 Oct

What the heck have I been doing? This..

My first but not my last Taggie 😀

Custom order loop scarf – looks to big on me because it is 😉 Made it for a normal height person 😛 Don’t make fun of me!!

Frames Frames Frames Frames

Painting a ton of frames for the craft show

That is a pile of 22 burp cloths

So far I’ve finished three for an order 😛

24 more burp cloths, 4 taggies, 10 more frames to go….

So if you think I’m slacking and I’m falling behind – I am .. but I’m not!! I’ve been working super hard lately making sure that I’ll have everything ready for the craft fair. I also finished a tan twisted loop scarf but I’m not selling that one. Made it for my mom 😀 I’ll try to remember to take a picture of that one for you because it’s by far my favorite after the teal one!!

I’ve got two more stripes to go on the purple scarf shown above and then I’ll be sending that out. So excited because it’s the first crocheted item that I’ll have sold on etsy and I have a feeling it won’t be near my last. The yarn I use is wayyyy to soft and silky to pass by. It’s hard to sell something like these on etsy because people want to put it on and feel it but I can guarantee once you put it around your neck – you won’t want to take it off. I had to pull the teal one off my mom and promise her three in order to get it back 😛

Cup cozies are the other thing I forgot to take a picture of.. need to remember that so you can see! I’ve them all finished except sewing the button on! Since I had work off today and I was in a cleaning mood, I decided to go through all the paperwork I had been putting off, cleaning the kitchen and other easy chores. Tonight I got 10 burp cloths ready to be sewn tomorrow so I can just zoom through those. I have a lot of fun new fabric and new items to post but I’ve decided not to post them until after the craft show in case I sell out!

I am however making myself post at least three items a day of supply items that I’m not longer using. My team on etsy is doing a Destash Bash before the Christmas season hits. We are getting rid of all the old craft supplies we aren’t using that are taking up space in our areas. The last thing you want to do is be stressed out with orders and rummage through piles of stuff you don’t even want just to find what you need! Plus someone else’s trash is always another crafters’ treasure. We have been having a blast doing this and I’m so excited to send out all my goodies 😀

So what are you doing??

Thanks for stopping by and hopefully I can still manage to keep you updated on things I’m doing to get prepared for this craft show. Hopefully I can come back with some good tips, lists, and info to help anyone else who is attempting to do what I am doing!

Love Always,

Daily Life: Picking Up The Pieces

10 Oct

These past two weeks of my life have been one big test for me. Through this whole process of being a stay at home mom, attempting to go beyond the goals I’ve set for myself as a business, holding a part-time job, and giving back to the Etsy community for everything that it’s given me – I overwhelmed myself. I took on a few more things that I could handle and it’s been a really lesson learned. As much as I love doing things for others and putting everyone above myself – sometimes you just have to break down and reset your priorities!

Because of my surgery and the medication I was on – it really limited what I could do and put me in a position where I felt like I was falling behind. Thank goodness I am back to the normal me this week and feeling back to being on top of this, but it was a good reminder that I am human and sometimes – even when we don’t want to – we need to slow down!

Now that I’m back on track I’ve been knocking out to do lists like it’s nothing! I’ve got seven new burp cloths to show and list, ten frames painted and primed and a few already started decorating, I am halfway done with a new scarf and I’ve been making cup cozies like it’s nobody’s business 😉

I know how much everyone LOVES pictures so I’ll definitely take more tomorrow and upload for all to see! But I am going to be concentrating on de-stashing tomorrow! My team on Etsy is doing a DESTASH BASH! We are getting rid of all the junk lying around from past projects and cleaning up or spaces so we can be ready for this coming holiday season. Who needs to be shuffling through a mess of things when purchases are at an all time high and we’ve got work to do! I’ll be excited to posting supply items so that I can make my store a little more dynamic and give you and my buyers some inspiration to be crafty yourselves!

So far I have some scrapbooking things and a lot of bias listed but there will be LOTS more coming 😉

Here’s the link if you are interested in checking it out.

Thank you so much for stopping by and sticking it out with my not so wonderful weeks!!

Crafts: A little POP of Color

20 Sep

I absolutely love scarves as a little pop of color in my drabby winter outfits 😛 So I made an aqua scarf to give me some of that extra pop I need!

It’s just your traditional loop scarf but done with a little twist – literally I twisted it while crocheting so it automatically curls right where you want it to! I kind of made my own pattern as I went and I’m currently  making another one in a thicker material to see if it works out just as well. This scarf is really light weight soft and easy! It took me two days to make it which I am really excited about because these days I need fast easy things to accomplish!

I showed my mom this and within seconds she had it wrapped around her saying she wanted three! Two for her and one for a gift. Silly mom 😀 So it looks like I’ll be busy for six days just filling her order 😉

It seems like for the past few days I’ve been avoiding my craft table. I’m not sure why really because I have a LIST of things I want to do and I’m really excited about it – I think I’m having trouble juggling everything else and feeling guilty about spending time crafting when I need to be cleaning or doing chores. I’m hoping to get most of my chores finished tomorrow because Thursday I am having a guilt free craft day and by that I mean I’m doing NOTHING but crafting (and BNRing) and really this time – no distractions! I need to get inventory BOOMING because it’s the end of September and I’m starting to freak out that my table is going to be bare. Which it’s not because I do have quite a few things – just not everything I want and I’m not quite sure how much I really need.

Another reason I haven’t been at the craft table working is because I’ve been in the mood to crochet. It seems like that’s all I feel like doing these days! I’ve constantly got yarn on my mind lol.

Okay moving on – so things to look forward to. More scarves 😛 (if you hadn’t figured that one out already) the beaded wall art that I keep saying I’m going to finish. I’m actually going to work on that Thursday. I’m holding off on doing the pillow covers out of Polo’s until I find the right size pillow I want to do. There’s some new fabric that needs new homes on burp cloths and some scraps I really want to make something simple easy and fun out of. I’ve been scoping out ideas for those! Let’s see how much I can accomplish in one day!

Thanks for stopping by!

“We are a brand new shop getting our feet wet in the Etsy world. Providing you with gorgeous accessories ranging from silk scarves, purses and to jewelry. All items are handmade and are all unique, a true work of wearable art.
Ceramic work coming soon!”

What got you interested in crafting?

My mom first got me interested in crafting. She promoted the arts in any way possible, often taking me to the museum and other art shows near by. Her passion was passed down to my brother and I. The further I get into the arts and crafting, the more I realize I do the same kind of things my mother enjoys.

What has been your favorite project to make and why?

I am a student in college getting my degree in art education and ceramics. But 2 semesters back I took my very first textiles class. My mom had been trying to get me to take one and I finally gave in and LOVED it. I got pretty good at dye work, and figuring out what methods worked best (that is why I now sell my dye work). I took this all to the next level by dying many yards of fabric and with that made my first quilt. I am very proud of it because it took a lot of time, hard work, and every bit of it is me. The colors vary from browns to golds and into purples. At this current moment it is hanging in my living room.

What’s the secret behind your etsy name?

My mother and I first created this shop as a mother-daughter duo. We came up with mermaid trinkets because they are thought to be a collection of items are related but defiantly not the same. We knew we wanted to dabble in different crafts and didn’t want to limit ourselves because of our shop name. Because we just opened last august, I have yet to dabble in other crafts to sell.

If you could open up a shop in your town what would you call it and what would it be like?

Might call it Mermaid Trinkets! Haha, just maybe. But my dream is to own a small studio in town where I can sell my work and also teach classes to the public. I know a variety of arts and crafts but I would like to base this studio in ceramics. I think about this in my free time, I almost have everything planned out! Sometimes I get too far ahead of myself.

What is the most challenging thing you have made?

The most challenging thing I have made would probably be the quilt I spoke of earlier. It was one of the most challenging pieces I have ever created, but completely worth the time and effort I placed into it.

What are some of your goals you hope to achieve within the next year?

I hope within the next year to have graduated college! I am in my last year of college. I am excited for the real world and hope to get that in town studio/class up and running at some point in the future. Though honestly that will be a while. I also hope it enter in more gallery shows this year with my ceramic tile work, I already have a show coming up in October.

What inspires you to be crafty?

I can’t help myself, even if I tried never to do another piece of art or craft I don’t think I would survive, I just can’t do it, there is no choice. If I am not currently making something I get crabby, completely unhappy with everything until I at least have an idea for a next piece. But what I love doing to get inspiration is to either go onto Etsy and roam, or go on stumbleupon with an art filter. The work that these people put out is amazing, who wouldn’t get inspired.

What is your best quality when it comes to your crafts?

I would have to say my craft. My craft level shows in my items, they are well crafted with clean lines, stitch marks and always ironed. As many of my professors would say, “If it isn’t done cleanly and professionally, why do it?”

If you could have one thing to help your store what would it be?

Time. I am a full-time student with 2 jobs. I hardly have anytime to myself, but if I had more time to dedicate to my Etsy shop I would defiantly improve my shop tremendously.

Crafts: The Battle Has Just Begun!

4 Aug

I can’t even explain how great it feels to be given the opportunity to have a day fully dedicated to crafts! I got exactly what I wanted to get done and it’s only 4:00 😛 Sure I still have a list of things that need to get done eventually but I am so proud of everything that got accomplished so far (plus my back is killing me 😛 haha). Wanna take a look?

I’ll be posting the new burp cloths on etsy this afternoon so take a look if you interested: www.etsy.com/people/DaydreamingGifts

I haven’t decided if I’m willing to make the yarn wrapped letters for sale since I don’t feel like I’ve quite mastered it yet 😉 I’m going to have to buy a couple more letters and get my practice on!! I had originally bought it for my daughters bedroom but now I’m thinking about making a sign out of yarn covered letters for my craft show 😛 I think wayyy to out of the box sometimes – heck I live out of the box!!

I’ll still be crafting for the rest of the day so there might be another post later but it’s going to be crafts that involve sitting on my couch because I’m exhausted!! I do have one more project that I was hoping to get done today but since it involves sewing it might not happen until late tonight or tomorrow..

Hope everyone else is having a great day!

Love Always,

J
