Butterfly Flowers

4 Jul

Last weekend we spent some time with the family and we took Emma to a nursery. Papa was picking out flowers for his deck and wanted to take Emma to see the fishies:

06-30 019

The first rule of spending the day with Papa is to never go anywhere hungry! If your belly isn’t happy – you aren’t happy!! I personally absolutely LOVE that rule! Emma on the other hand – just likes to make Papa laugh πŸ™‚

06-30 024

You have to admit they are a cute pair!! It wasn’t that long ago that I was the one holding Papa’s hand in awe of how amazing he is.

06-30 025

There were huge fans there that Papa kept going by and Emma would laugh and cover her ears. I couldn’t resist getting a shot of this!

06-30 027

06-30 028

While we were there we had to look for “butterfly” flowers because that’s what she had decided she wanted Papa to get her!

06-30 029

We took a break from finding the perfect flowers and watched the fish. Emma was mesmerized!Β

06-30 030

The set up for these fish was so gorgeous I couldn’t resist showing it off! If we ever have the spare money to do some extra landscaping these are exactly the kind of rocks I’d love to have framing our gardens.

06-30 032

One of my favorite flowers πŸ™‚ I love these little puffs of joy!!

06-30 033

Another stop to see the fish!? I think it’s mandatory! I love Papa and Emma time πŸ™‚

06-30 034

I stopped to check out the cactus side of the nursery. Emma and I love to check out the little terrariums on Pinterest – this may be a future project for us!

06-30 035

My little cheeseball making silly faces again πŸ˜€

004

And here it is! The “Butterfly” flower that Emma chose to take home!

006

It’s been a few days and it’s finally sprouting new flowers πŸ™‚ I’m proud of my little gardener!

Hope you all have a wonderful 4th!

We bought our FIRST house!  ❀ So we can mark that of the 30 before 30 list!

If you want to see the house tours the are here, here, and here! Yes there are three or else they would have been huge posts!

If you hadn’t noticed I’ve been blogging over here at A Charming Twist with my friend Leslie:

I decided to start writing with Leslie as a way for us to keep in touch, share my DIY & Craft obsession with her and as a way to keep this blog more family related. So from now on you’ll see posts about my life, Emma, and things we are doing as a family! Β Sure there will be the occasional DIY post because – let’s be honest – I can’t help myself πŸ˜‰

If you love my DIY and organizing posts please be sure to follow us at A Charming Twist so you don’t miss out those goodies.

And just because I can’t help myself – here’s what Emma’s been up to these days:

Β

Trying out Mom & Dad’s new bed.

Helping Mommy set up her new craft room / office space!

Attempting the piano (she’s actually pretty good!)

Cuddling with Mommy on the new couch watching the NEW TV!

Taking baby for walks in our new neighborhood!

Enjoying some sun on the deck!

Passing out in her new bed after a long hard day of play!

Spinning Out of Control!

23 Jan

Is it obvious that I have been preoccupied with other things?!

I hope you didn’t think I was gone for good πŸ™‚

Just sleeping when I got the chance instead of typing πŸ˜›

So what’s my cause for all this crazy silence?

Well one reason is I’ve been blogging over here at A Charming Twist! One of my amazing friends and I started a blog together to talk about crafts, fashion, home decor, food, and life! It’s been so much fun posting with her!

acharmingtwist

On my day off during the week I’d usually come up with my posts and do a few projects. These days I’ve been helping out a company I used to work for before my stay-at-home mom days! They needed an extra hand and when it comes to organizing things I can resist πŸ˜‰

photo (29)

Another reason is I’m attempting one of my 30 before 30 goals! I’m taking Art Classes!! It’s been super exciting and I’ll share all the details about it later but it’s so nice to be accomplishing goals πŸ™‚

Artschool

Along with those I’ve been picking up shifts and taking the girls out to keep from getting cabin fever! We’ve been traveling to the mall and indoor playground to keep them active, get a little fresh air, and have new experiences. Our local mall has a train that the kids can ride around the mall and a merry-go-round!

merry-go-round

This has also lead us in eating out which I love! Going out to eat with these girls is twice as muchΒ fun as taken them places meant for them -these girls love people watching, aren’t picky eaters, and love to hold a conversation πŸ˜‰

Even though it’s been crazy busy around here I haven’t forgotten about you all! I have a ton of ideas to keep you entertained and hope to be getting back on track whether my schedule is packed or not πŸ˜‰

What have you all been up to? I’d love to hear!

Wasted Space Not So Wasted Anymore!

8 Jan

Emma’s closet has been only used for storage since she was born. We have a big chest of drawers for her and since her clothes are so tiny I would just fold them up and put them in there. We also had the changing table drawers for sheets and blankets so there was really never a need to hang up her clothes.

037

This resulted in using the closet to put things she wasn’t using in! For a while I’ve wanted to do something differently and I finally got the kick in the butt to change things up around here πŸ™‚

038

Emma’s closet has this nook inside of it that I’ve been dying to make a little reading spot out of! So while I was giving the closet a useful makeover I decided to make this part a little place to hide out for Emma.

060

On one side she has her spot to sit and read with her books.

056

The other side is her stuffed animal pile and puzzles on top of the shelf. Sometimes she’ll crawl into the pile of animals and hide out!

054

The rest of her closet got organized and is finally be used for it’s main purpose!! For the past few mornings she’s had a blast picking out her outfits not that she can see them all!

050

When it gets quiet around here I know just where to find her!

Now I need to make a special spot for me to go hide and get things done πŸ˜‰ I wonder if Emma would let me work on my blogging in my closet?

Love Always,

J

Christmas Tree Shopping!

17 Dec

There is nothing better than Christmas shopping with a little one.

038

We had a blast finding the perfect one!

Usually we get Hot Chocolate or Caramel Apple Cider while we are Christmas Tree shopping but this year it was nice and warm!! I think Emma enjoyed the warm weather.

Do you have any tree shopping traditions? I’d love to hear them!

What Are You Doing!?

14 Dec

Today I am doing finishing touches to make sure I’m all prepped for my show tomorrow!

photo (27)

These are pieces of wood I spray painted with chalkboard paint to make price signs for the show. I love how bright they are and how they stand out. I also love that I don’t have to tag price EACH item I’ve made. I’ve tried many different ways to tag price my items and realized that all of them take WAY to long and I could have made more items for my show instead of wasting time tagging each and every single thing.

il_fullxfull.256405979

These are the kinds of tags I was trying to use. I had to write out each tag and use string to tie to each item. It was exhausting and frustrating. Another kind i used were sticky price tags which I hated. They either leave sticky messes on your items or they fall off and are nowhere to be found which result in a, “how much is this!?”

After going through all that I realized I didn’t mind people asking me how much things were. It actually seemed to be the conversation starter and gave me a chance to explain the process of making my items and that I do custom orders as well. After that I tried to come up with a different way to price my items – which resulted in the chalkboard paint boards. Now my prices are easy to be seen but if someone really wanted to talk to me or ask me my prices I was ready and available πŸ™‚

What are you working on today? Leave a comment and let me know or share a link to show me what you are doing!

A Little White, A Lot of Color!

10 Dec

This weekend I had a high school reunion with one of my best friends! We spent the entire weekend shopping, crafting, catching up and creating a masterpiece πŸ™‚

043

This girl rocks my world! She is always up for a good time and ready to get crafty in seconds πŸ™‚ We are so much alike that it’s scary sometimes but my favorite thing about her is that she always surprises me! Just when I think I know her so well, she shocks me with more personality and drive. Catching up was way past due and I am so thankful we found the time to make it happen.
012

During our shopping trip I bought a new item for my craft show table to display my new necklaces. Nothing shows off what you make than seeing it worn and I felt like this necklace needed that. I’m excited for this new addition to my table πŸ™‚

011

We also bought a pack of 80’s glam sharpies. We love color and we decided to try a project with them! You’ll get to see the whole thing soon but for now I’ll just give you this as a sneak peak πŸ˜‰

Another sneak peak is what’s about to happen! There is going to be a huge change in my blogging life. I am now starting a blog with Leslie! We are still working on getting it set and ready – so it won’t be open until January but I am so excited I couldn’t not share!

The Underestimated Mom will still be updated but more like two – three times a week instead of almost daily. Most of my time will be spent making articles for A Charming Twist. If you are interested in keeping up with Leslie & I head on over there now or starting in January.

We are also offering a space to add your button to our page! If you are interested you can email me or our joint address on our page! We will also be doing guest posts so if you think you have something awesome you want to share that’s craft, fashion, food, or home decor related – you’d be the perfect fit for our blog!

Lot’s of fun new things going on!

Hope you are as excited as I am πŸ˜‰

Old Jeans into Skinny Jeans!

4 Dec

Welcome to my pile of jeans that need a little TLC! They may have gotten into this pile for various reasons – they don’t fit, they aren’t in style anymore, they got taken in to get hemmed and the lady made them too short and they are now high waters (frustrated voice there), or I haven’t worn them in a few years.

003

Why did I hang onto them? Honestly – because I don’t know how to get rid of things and thought I could make SOMETHING out of it one day..

016

Welcome to that day! My sister sent me a pin from pinterest about how this girl made her not so cool jeans into skinny jeans. It took me about two seconds to try on all of the jeans that were in my “I don’t know what the heck to do with these” pile πŸ™‚

018

Then the magic happened! First I put them on inside out, pulled the sides tight and pinned them so that they would be form fitting. If you’d rather not pin yourself in your jeans you can try using chalk to mark the line.

019

Then I took them off and ran them through the sewing machine. Be sure that you have a thick needle for this (mine is an 8 for jeans) or your sewing machine is going to take a toll and you might bend or break your needle.

020

Before you do anything else, be sure to flip them right side out and try them on. It’s going to feel weird having that extra flap of fabric but this is the only way that you’ll know if it fits you right before you finish them off and can’t undo it!

022

If it’s not how you wanted, rip out the seams and try again! If it is take really nice sharp scissors and cut along the link of your seam without hitting your stitching.

Then you can iron the edges down or let it wash and dry into shape. I like to wear mine around and break them in for the day πŸ˜‰

001

What do you think? Actually – it’s probably best you don’t tell me what you think – because after doing this whole thing I realized I hate the way I look in skinny jeans.. oh well!

Love Always,

J

Practice Makes Perfect!

3 Dec

This weekend I decided to do a trial set up for the show on the 15th. Since I’ll be going from having three tables to one, I had to figure out how to get as much stock as I could in one confined space! It took editing some things, a ton of rearranging, and not putting everything on my table.

905

Above is my last set up, below is cramming everything onto one table without it being overwhelming! That was definitely the hardest part. Knowing what to put on your table (what you think you’ll sell) and what not to is impossible. Not putting something out that might have sold if it was seen may cost you, but you’ll never know!

001

At this event – I’m excited to show off all the new colors that I didn’t have the previous year, while still trying to keep the favorite ones available πŸ˜‰

Also new – is the cup cozies! I’m hoping this are a hit, especially since it’s at coffee shop. A few things I’ve slowed down on making are burp cloths and taggies. As much as a love these things, they aren’t getting as much attention as I thought they would and to be completely honest – I’d rather be in my living room watching Emma play while I crochet then in the studio without her!

001

Don’t get me wrong! I’ll be in there sewing and working like I usually do, just not as much if these crocheted things keep selling like they are! Oh and to talk about what’s selling – these things are:

photo (26)

These cork key chains are flying out of my hands like hot cakes! I’ve gotten a lot of people asking which ones I have and to be completely honest – up until now – I had no idea!! I spent this weekend sorting through all of them so I now have a list if anyone is looking for a specific one.

corklist

It took longer than I thought it would, but I have a feeling it will be beneficial in the long run if someone is searching for a specific winery that went with a special moment to remember.

Well enough about me – what did you do this weekend?

Oh and don’t forget! If you missed out on getting a Young House Love book signed – I have one up for grabs πŸ™‚

Unexpected Storage

28 Nov

This week I was rearranging my kitchen and cleaning it out of things we don’t use anymore. Is it just me – or do I do this about every three months or so? Anywho, I came across this container of popcorn that we got – minus the popcorn that is. I can’t believe that I held on to for a while because I liked the way it looked – but I’m so glad I did πŸ™‚

I never had a purpose for it or really a reason to keep it but I love how pretty and shiny it is! Even better now that it’s winter time again so it goes along with the theme of the weather πŸ™‚ After looking around the house for a while I decided where I wanted to put it.

Most of the time when I’m finding a home for a new place I like to replace it with someone older that isn’t serving it’s purpose anymore, or could use a little TLC. I found just the spot I needed to fix!

My yarn basket gets pulled out every time I’m doing a few projects at once. Since I have show coming up on the 15th, I have been multi-tasking with my list of things to finish up. This basket is obviously getting a little too much love because it’s overflowing and not so pretty anymore!

I decided I could easily fit my yarn in the new bucket with no problem. After filling it up I realized I had extra room on the top to put whatever current project I’m working on and still close the lid! Extra space is definitely key for me to keep things organized. If I limit myself – mess happens fast!

Then I put it right where I do my crocheting, next to the couch but enough out of the way that it isn’t bombarding my space. So while it looks like a decorative tin of goodies – it’s really my project stash of goodies!

I love free ways to store items!
Thanks for stopping by!

Love Always,

J
