A New Set Up

16 Oct

My studio room has been needing a new set up for quite some time but I never got around to figuring out a plan. What I needed was to get rid of that big square table and find a skinnier one to take it’s place. Once the table was out – rearranging the space was SO much easier!

I can’t tell you how much this frees up the floor space in this room. With the ironing board able to fold up and be against the wall and the small 4×2 table folded up – it gives me even more floor space. I love being here but one of the most difficult things about it is working up here with Emma. There are some days where I just chose not to come here because I’d rather spend time with her but other times I have her with me and try to get as much work done as I can.

Now that there is more floor space for her she can easily play with her toys and not be right at my feet. I also love the fact that I can set her up at the second table and let her color and play there. She loves to imitate me these days so I can just picture her pretending to sew or paint 😉 I’m going to give it a for the next few weeks and see how it goes!

One of the things I am most excited about is my new mini shelf on my desk! This is the third one that I purchased that isn’t going with me to the show. As you can see it’s already over-flowing with goodies so after the show I will be definitely using at least one of these to store things in when I’m in-between shows.

Is it just me or do other people rearrange their spaces every couple months?

Thanks for stopping by!

Thoughtful Thursday: A Hard Lesson To Learn

1 Mar

If you’ve been reading the last few Thursday posts – you know that I’m trying to enhance my life, work efficiently, and grow as a business and a person. This week has really given me a hard lesson to learn!!

After following my seven steps and working hard to be productive (which I have) I have also come to my realization of what exactly is holding me back. It’s not motivation, it’s not family or friends, it’s not even really me. It’s my space. Trying to get work done in an area that isn’t exactly defined as your own is a hard thing to accomplish. Since I live in a small (but perfect size for our family) apartment it has come to my realization that there is not one spot in the house that you can’t look around and see all the chores or things that are left undone. Even without a list of things to torment me – all I have to do is open my eyes and turn around!!

My parents went out-of-town and I invaded their space. I took all the things I need/want to work on and nothing more. I am surrounded by clean open space with lots of room and table space. It’s a crafter’s dream getaway!

I can wake up, get ready, get my chores done, and escape to my area to get things done! Emma can even come up and go hog-wild and it doesn’t change a thing. You can see that all the mess – is just my work stuff. Even with that pile of paperwork I still have room to sew! I mean how hard is it to pile a couple of books and paper together to make more room instead of looking at the dirty dishes, laundry, toys on the floor, other not as important paperwork in piles, and things you can’t move out of they way because you have no where else to put them!!

The hard part is that I don’t get to keep it. As soon as they are done with their trip I will be back into my old routine of things. The other hard part is knowing that we will be moving soon and I’ll have a chance to get my own space in my own house like this – but we aren’t exactly sure when that will be right now. We know it’s soon!! But there’s not an actual date set yet.

So if you are like me and easily distracted and weighed down by all the things you haven’t done. Get away from them! Pack up your things or find a room in your house that you can create your own getaway. I can’t tell you how clear my head has been while I’ve been working and how much progress I’ve made. Here’s just a few things:

Daily Life: Goodbye Clutter!

19 Mar

Today I am keeping up with my spring cleaning “fever” and going through the storage. I think my favorite part of going through stuff is finding things that I can use around the house to keep myself organized or just for fun! Yes, I am supposed to be getting rid of everything but I always seem to find things to use that I never realized was tucked away 😀 It’s like thrift store shopping and finding some awesome things but even better because they are FREE!

I am also going to have to really push myself to get rid of a lot of stuff. I’m the kind of person who keeps something thinking I’ll use it later and 9 times out of 10 I end up using it.. but all those 10’s that never get used pile up 😛 My mom is going to help me today which is awesome because I am a hoarder and she is a chucker. She’s going to help me take a second look at something and ask me if I really need it instead of “hmm I could use this later .. maybe .. one day..” HAHA!

Hopefully through this whole process I start seeing more in a need now kind of mindset. I really think getting rid of the clutter in my life is going to give me more space to be creative and be a huge stress reliever! Plus I am a seriously thrifty shopper so if I do chuck something that I could have used later .. well I can always find it later for an awesome price but at least it was taking up space for the years I didn’t use it!

I can’t wait to show you all my awesome finds, but I also can’t wait to have some serious crafty space to get my one year plan easily organized and room for whatever else is to come out of it!

Love Always,

J
