Fresh Style: The Holiday Issue – Magazine Review

4 Sep

This magazine grabbed my attention for multiple reasons. 20 DIY gifts under $20 dollars -HECK YES. Easy decor – Yes Please. Quick Projects – WIN! I love all of those things ๐Ÿ˜‰

When it comes to gift giving for my family I love to go out and buy things that they really want (with a budget in mind) and then on top of that I like to make something that’s more personal as well as budget friendly. Whether it’s an ornament, home decor, or just something fun I couldn’t resist – it makes Christmas over here a lot easier to handle. When you have a large family like mine it’s even more difficult to give a lot of gifts when there’s just way to many people to buy for!

So when I saw this magazine, I instantly picked it up, didn’t look at the price, and trucked it to the check out counter! You can never have too many cute, small, budget friendly gift ideas!

After one quick flip my heart was already racing and ready to go. They have enough choice options to make sure there would be something for everyone in here. From buttons, to books, to personalized pieces; this magazine really makes you feel like you could be a gift giving queen! Another plus? If you don’t feel like making these things – you can easily purchase them from their directory in the back.

Not sure where to pick up all the pieces for these crafts? Oh they got you covered there too! Under Resources for Readers in the back they list where they got what pieces and how much certain things cost (decorative things). Talk about getting your homework done for you? Right!?

Now I didn’t forget – the how to’s, pictures, and descriptions. Icing on the cake people. Their pictures are fantastic – for those who see instructions better through pictures; they give you a taste here and there so you aren’t lost. Their descriptions are easy to read and not so long-winded to keep the attention of those easily distracted people like me ๐Ÿ˜‰ Lastly: How to’s! If the descriptions don’t give you enough details in the back they have Step by Step instructions. Ahh what a life. This magazine beats anything I’ve ever seen so far and I am so in love with it that I’m not willing to let it go!

Since Fresh Style only comes out once a year they don’t do subscriptions but since it’s only $7.99 a magazine – it’s totally worth it. I’m adding this magazine to my yearly inspiration ๐Ÿ™‚

  • 5 points for ideas & inspiration
  • 5 points for easy how to and guide steps
  • 5 points for exciting pictures & fun reads
  • 2 points for the amount of issues
  • 5 points for price (7.99 for one issue)

Four out five stars for this one!

Where did you get that yarn!?

31 Aug

Hey everyone! I’ve been getting a ton of questions about where I get my yarn and since my usual place closed down I thought I’d share with you now, the only place I can find my yarn!

Knitting-warehouse.comย ย is now the only place I can find the yarn that I’m absolutely in love with. I’m really picky when it comes to yarn because I can’t stand anything scratchy touching my skin. You will never find me wearing wool sweaters, scarves, or hats. I just can’t stand the itch! So when I was hunting down someย incredibly soft yarn I found a brand I couldn’t resist.

Now that Hancocks has decided to leave our town and the next closest one is way to far for me to drive I’m now an only online purchaser! If you go online and check out what this brand costs for the amount you get – you might look at me like I’m crazy but it’s worth the price. Even better it’s always on sale online which makes up for shipping and pretty much even’s it out.

The other brands that I buy I can find at JoAnn’s no problem, you just can’t always find the color you are looking for which has brought me back to knitting-warehouse. Because each brand is cheaper online – it completely makes up for the shipping cost.

This also helps when I’m buying bulk orders, which tends to me more often then not, because it’s always cheaper to buy multiple things that come together in one box than it is separate. Especially since yarn is lightweight. As for shipping time it says 3-5 days but it’s unusual for it to take more than three days. If it does I just assume they are slam packed with orders but since I purchase year round and hardly have to wait for it – I’d say that’s a win/win!

Hope this helps โค

Love Always,

J

P.S. Knitting-warehouse.com did not ask me to write this post, pay for it, or give me anything for free – this post was written upon request buy readers interested in where I purchase my yarn and was completely written by my own opinion.

My Favorite Thrift Store!

24 Aug

I talk about going to Blue Ridge Hospice Thrift shop a lot – but I’ve never shown you what it’s like to shop there so I thought the next time I go I’m taking pictures – and I did!

My favorite things about this thrift store are:

  • All the proceeds go the Blue Ridge Hospice
  • You get a points card and a punch for every time you shop there! I’m halfway through mine and I’ll get $10 off my next purchase of $20 bucks or more (which is not hard to do here).
  • They have everything in sections that are clearly defined so if you are searching for something specific you can easily find it.
  • They have two floors of thrifty goodness!! (This place is huge)
  • They have a room dedicated just to craft supplies โค They had me at hello.

This mirror was so cool – I am actually mad I didn’t buy it. I’ve been seeing these pins on pinterest where people design things around a mirror and this one seemed like a perfect match – but since my storage is overflowing I’m not allowed to buy any new big projects until I finish the ones I have ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

These chairs were AWESOME! In this family we like dark wood and these would be perfect for us. I even like the fabric choice but it was a little stained so I would need to reupholster it (not a problem). The problem? We don’t need chairs, nor do we have room to store them. Another bummer.

Apparently I have a thing for chairs – but can’t you see these in a little kids playroom!? Oh so adorable ๐Ÿ™‚

Then we come to the craft room -which I only took to pictures of because I wasย entirelyย to destracted by all the goodies to stop and take more pictures (sorry!) but check out this wall of baskets! If you can’t find a basket here – I’m afraid you need to make your own! They have every size and every kind you could as for – even cute picnic baskets!

Tada!!! The fabric section. I could probably spend a lifetime in here if they let me. In fact the lady checking me out said she might almost pay me to take it away โค I told her I’d gladly take her up on that offer any day!!

So the pictures you are missing from the rest of that room are ribbon, yarn, thread, patterns, paper crafts, and more. It’s like a mini craft store in there! They even have a sewing machine!

More on my thrifty shopping later – this isn’t the last Blue Ridge Hospice post and I can promise you that ๐Ÿ˜‰

Love Always,

J

Shopping Shopping Shopping!

12 Aug

Every time I go shopping with my Dad, we always end up coming home with more than what we went out for ๐Ÿ™‚ If I’m going craft store shopping sometimes I’ll wait until I get a chance to go with him because he’s so much fun to go with. We’ll be walking around the store and he’ll pick up random things and ask me what I could make out if it ๐Ÿ˜€ Got to love the support I get from him!

As usual I go into JoAnn’s and buy them out of their frames but they never have enough so I put in a special order for more! Chances are high I’ll be raiding all their frames again before Seafood Festival ๐Ÿ™‚

My Dad and I also raided the remnant pile for some fabric (not like I have enough already!) I already have plans for each of these ๐Ÿ™‚

I also put in an order for some yarn so I am excited to get that box in! After seeing my stash of yarn not to long ago you probably think I’m crazy for ordering more but it seems like I ran out of my most popular colors so I had to order a few more before the festival!

Which fabric is your favorite?

Baby Basket Complete :)

9 Aug

All that hard work on the baby boy basket and it’s finally finished and ready for little Max to enjoy:

Inside this basket is a crocheted baby blanket, four burp cloths, an activity blanket, and a set of three personalized frames! Baby gift sets are just so cute. I hope the happy new parents enjoy their gift set – Congrats!!

Also if you follow my Daydreaming Gifts facebook page you probably saw the status that said I have enough yarn color choices to match my mood and I picked Pink & Gray/Silver:

I finished it! It took me about two days to do it and I’m so loving how it turned out ๐Ÿ˜€

What do you think?

What Are You Doing?

2 Jun

Hey everyone! I wanted to share with you what I’ve been up to lately ๐Ÿ™‚ This week has been busy with lists of things to accomplish and scheduled events but I’ve managed to squeeze in some time to make some bracelets I think you all might be interested in seeing!

The first bracelet is made out of twine, the second is made out of cotton, the third out of hemp! I was playing around with different materials. The twine is super soft but also really thick, the cotton is not as soft as the yarn I use but more durable and I love the pretty colors, the hemp is durable and not as soft either but the more you wash hemp – the softer it gets.

I think Brian got excited when I was showing him the twine and hemp because he asked if I could make him a regular bracelet instead of a girly one. This is how he wanted it – a regular rectangle!

I decided to make a matching one for me out of the cotton!

What do you think? What have you been up to?

Doing A Happy Dance!

7 May

Hello There!

I’m doing the biggest best happy dance I have done in a long time ๐Ÿ˜€

I finally have a good chunk of my listings up on my Etsy page! DaydreamingGiftsย I did a massive overhaul – took all my old listings down, took new pictures, restocked half of my inventory and now it’s all up for everyone to see ๐Ÿ™‚ Well not all of it. I’m not a magician or anything so it’s more like half of the new listings are up – but COME ON! I am so darn proud ๐Ÿ˜€

Gotta love those little accomplishments that make your day so much better.

What I’ve been working on!

4 Apr

Now that the weather is getting warmer and crocheting blankets and scarves make me too hot – I’ve moved on to smaller cuter things ๐Ÿ˜€

I got these awesome books from my mom and my best friend along with some fun colored yarn to play with. I’ve always wanted to learn how to make Amigurumi animals and I finally attempted my first one! I’m not completely done with it but I’ll go ahead and show you the progress ๐Ÿ˜€

Here’s the head and ears (unstuffed)

Head and body (Stuffed)

Head, body, and arms! (Stuffed)

Next up I am making two big stuffed legs, attaching them, buttons for eyes, and embroidering a smile & nose. I’m making a teddy bear!!

After I get better at making these little guys I plan on doing something I haven’t yet seen done with them before! You’ll have to stay tuned to see what’s coming up next!

Thanks for stopping by!ย

Love Always,

J
